But doesn't the choice you make at the end also have to be meaningless if they want to make future games?

The setting can't be the same for all three, unless it's set so far into the future that evolution has rendered your final decision meaningless (which I admit would be a splendid, in-character, final F-U from BioWare).

The biggest question I would put is, how did this happen? Whose idea was it to put in an ending that tore out my heart, choked by lungs, deprived my appetite and left my thinking about it over and over? (figuratively speaking)

Well, Shepard's story is actually a Player's story.
My point is why the hell is my story ends like this while I've done everything to avoid this end through all three previous  games? All that I've achive just gone out of the window for nothing, 'cause BW wanted to be more TRAGIC. FFFUUUUU…

Is that shepard taking a breath?

Cant say for sure. The person is wearing an N7 Dogtag and his armor is shred to pieces, just like Shepards after he got hit by the reaper. 

That's Shepard awakening after getting hit by the Reaper and having a nonsensical dream about a little boy giving him choices on what he would like to trade his life for.

I find it shocking how much I care about fictional characters, but I can say I was genuinely disappointed that my Shepard didn't get the chance to grow old and have little blue babies with Liara.

Unfortunately the endings remind me too much of Warcraft 3. It feels like Bioware deliberately destroyed vast portions of the established lore in order to pave the way for an MMO.

I knew this would be Shepards final fight, but why did it have to play out that way? They could have easily given him some debilitating injury so that he could no longer be a hero, then let him settle down with his LI...

I just feel lost. I really should be leveling my Sentinel in Swtor.. Can't even bring myself to log on. I just keep checking twitter and these forums in hope for news of some kind.

*catches Liara and FemShep pieces and puts them in pocket* I don't think this is the real end. BioWare will announce something Monday when they all get back from vacation. They have to. I'm keeping up hope.

Wrong in Casey Hudson interview he stated this game was going to end the series Exact words I believe were bring the series to a close. Well he said Series that means MASS EFFECT not Shepard. I guess you do not follow the creators. If you have a srource please share it.

The irony is that the ending is so weak, that I'm sure most fans could. And that's even after taking into account just how bad so much fan fiction really is.

If they're smart, that's what they'll run with for DLC.  Really the only way out of this mess at this point.

I actually think to rember that there was a promise that we will get the possibility (not easy but existent) to achieve a absolute happy ending as well as experience utter defeat.
