That article is a hoot. I guess my 60 bucks don't matter any because Bioware made this game and I can't negatively criticize anything about it.

No, because when you do, you are an "entitled kiddy"... that's how far the mass media has degraded the paying customers. We allow you to play our stuff, but don't make any demands... just give us your money and shut up.

Well, I am 34 years old, and hard working, I have a right to demand something, from time to time...

EDIT: The sadest thing is, we ALL already bought the game... line, hook and swimmer...

"The most important thing to realize is that this is BioWare's story. This is their game. These are their endings. Whether or not you liked them is irrelevant because they happened regardless."

This would be true if they (Bioware) weren't also telling us since 2007 and before that Mass Effect is Shepard's story, Shepard's story is "your" story. You decide how the story plays out throughout 3 games. Instead every choice we made basically comes down to "How would you like to die?"

First of all, let me say that I had
loved Mass Effect and that Dragon Age: Origins is one of my favorite
games ever. I bought my xbox 360 after 100% clearing Mass Effect one
on a friend's console and then losing the save. Once I had my own
console can copy I played it so many times. Then Mass Effect 2 came
out. I hated losing persuasion/intimidate because I can't be
convincing as a "grey Jedi" type but regardless the game
was great too. I liked the Awakening and Mass Effect 2 endings where
your preparation and effort affected the severity of the losses. I
had put so much time into these games and loved most of it. Then Mass
Effect 3 came. It was great other than minor issues of lag when
trying to change my armor and some deaths as a result of the a button
having too many commands mapped to it. I played and had a great time.
I got super invested in the characters and while this ending was not
mandatory I really hoped to come out of it alive and retire somewhere
with Liara. But then as the game ended, it turned out that all of the
choices I made had no effect or meaning. There was nothing that could
be done to prevent a horrific outcome for galactic civilization.
Suddenly out of nowhere the one in charge of the reapers just shows
up and offers 3 poorly explained choices with the same result. I
don't even get to try and offer an alternative to the catalyst? If
their goal is to stop synthetics then why not just monitor and play
hero when they get out of line? I don't even try to just get him to
back off, show that machines and organics are working together now.
Why could the crucible just not have been an anti-reaper weapon? And
then the crew that I cared about is either dead or stranded. Without
any explanation of why he is fleeing, the Normandy with my squad
mates who I thought got shot by the reaper at the beam crash land and
are stranded on some planet. I was so excited pulling an all nighter
to finish this play through only to get kicked in the gut. I felt
sick and angry. Nothing I had done at all in the entire series was
relevant anymore. There was nothing I could do to prevent myself,
civilization, and my squad from getting screwed over. The next day I
tried to play again but I could not bring myself to do it just
because I can't see any point. Nothing matters. Now I just regret
ever playing Mass Effect. The games were supposed to be about your
choices shaping the galaxy but that ended up just being a joke.

It may be an old song, but somehow it fits perfectly with Mass Effect.

Agreed.

Perfect. I laughed so hard here. If we could play a song while the credits are rolling, THIS would be the song I would choose...

This argument is totally irrelevant (to quote the not so brilliant author). It would work if we were talking about a book. But this supposed to be our shepard's ending not Bioware one.

You know what is suddenly very telling???

Just about everything that has happened with this release....
The 'Leaked' Script
The 'Leaked' Beta
And just about everything else that has been a monumental c***-up of their flagship game...

It seems like this is what may have been planned from the start,
It seems that Bioware knew exactly what the fan reaction was going to be (Seriously, how couldn't they?)
It seems from various twitter posts that the creators don't seem to be that worried that the majority of fans were dissapointed in their game typically there would be damage control, but the distinct lack of damage control is very out of the ordanary.

Maybe they are going with the "All publicity is good publicity" theory (Pretty much most gaming forums around the world are talking about this right now!) and are waiting to give people their intended endings (RE: Michael Gamble's Quote that is in my sig)

This is all probably all just wishful thinking... but it's currently the only explination I can think of as to why what has happened... actually happened...

Oh and nearly forgot: I hate the currently predominant tendency for tragedy, angst and drama without any counterbalance, which is one of the reasons i love Mass Effect, despite all the bad things happening there is always also the humour to get the smile back on my face. So why did they choose to throw that out of the window and went with absolute darkness with only a glimmer of hope but absolutely no fun. I know the galaxy is on bettter standing than with the Reapers killing everyone but Mass Effect never really was about the galaxy but about Shepard, it was his story, it was our story. That's what they told us and what i believed till the end, that this is my story. but after entering the light they took it away from me and said, i'm not important but because i was a good boy and reached the end i may choose in which color they will end it. Well it's choice just not the one i signed up for.

I'll admit, I considered a low-level employee with some sense could see where this trainwreck was going and "accidentally" placed information where it would be leaked ahead of time.

I was the 12th in line for Edmonton's launch party, and I kind of regret waiting around for six hours. The endings pretty much ruined the entire series for me. I hope we can get them changed.

I just want to know how they managed to make this game's ending have less variability than the endings for the first two. I mean they didn't even have to include an endgame choice to make things different enough and make us feel like our choices mattered.

I said it before all they had to do was to let the Crucible work as it should have, wiping out the Reapers and have every other thing work out based on past choices and assets:
-If you kept the collector base and have less than n number of assets Shepard dies but mass relays are saved
-If you killed the Rachni a squadmate dies
-If you couldn't bring the geth to the battle Normandy gets destroyed
...

An ending as a combination of all these would have been great for me. It could be followed by an epilogue which would make things even better, but even if it was not I would still be satisfied knowing that my choices shaped the ending of an amazing trilogy.

They must have known that nobody would want to see the galactic civilization collapse regardless of what you did, Shepard get forced into a death (the survival ending is so ridiculous that I don't think it's worth counting), Normandy and the crew get stranded on a stupid planet for absolutely no reason at all instead of being alongside Shepard.

So I'm just trying to understand why they went with such an ending, how they were even satisfied with the ending they created themselves. But I just can't find an answer to this.

Welll, Ive been saying sense the beginning that this seems like a move on Biowares part to chase away single player rpg folks in order to move more towards a multi-player online type group.

I would have prefered an ending similar to dragon age origins: a group of text written endings that tells us what happens to the rest of the galaxy after!

The ending CGs and cutscenes were great but.... If ME3 is going to be the last of the series then we need a proper closure. No need for fancy CGs or whatnot, just a couple of text written endings that tells us what happens to the rest of the galaxy after the war. I think having this would be enough to grant us closure. It would be nice to know what happens to the quarians and geth after all our decisions. Or what happens to the krogans and their "new empire" after being free of the genophage (or their extiction). Heck, i wanna know what happens to my squadmates after my "sacrifice"!

Please conisder Devs. I wouldn't demand you guys to re-create an entirely new CG ending to a game. But making a DLC that enables this DAO text-ending feature should be easier AND enough for most of us.

Also, I think the normandy crash scene in the end is [indeed] confusing and posts too many "what-if" questions that mitigates the impact of a "closure".
