The price...of surviving/defeating once and for all an extinction cycle that been happening for millions of years; a bittersweet ending.

In a fictional game that lets us pick our own endings.

OH WAIT NOW YOU CAN'T BECAUSE WE WANT TO FORCE SOMETHING ON YOU :D

I'm not saying "preorder canceled" but this royally sucks the fun out of the game for me. Everything about making our own destiny...down the drain. Fallout 3 all over again!

At least Fallout 3 came out with a DLC shortly afterward that brought the Lone Wanderer back and enabled you to keep playing.

I sometimes theorized the secret to beating the Reapers lied in the Mass Relays in one way or another which both galactic civilizations and the Reapers rely on extensively but IF this is true then that's kind of disappointing but we'll see how it plays out I guess.

Well if they would wrote a good story it would be something like visiting the Reapers home planet (turning the Citadel into a Mass Relay but this time we'll pay the Reapers a visit not vica versa) and find a solution to drive them off our Galaxy... even maybe contacting other Galaxies for help (through the Citadel relay we travel to Andromeda)... it's just sucks that all your efforts finally end up being stuck on a planet...

It's not even a script leak. It's a secondhand summary written by someone who allegedly played the game.

Go to the first page of the Hammer and Sword thread.  The link is there.  It's not the script.  It's a description of the endings from a guy who played through the space edition.

Novem, help me out here.

I thought, from reading the script, the merge ending left the galaxy intact. Is that not the case? The endings in the script were very ambiguous. Does you have a link to a better description of them? Feel free to PM or explain if so.

All the endings require vast amounts of energy to be spent all across the galaxy. The Relays are the ony things capable, and it seems they are lost in every ending.

Thanks.  I just got PMed the endings so I see what your talking about now.  Firstly Renegades are wholly screwed.  You cannot even get the one ending where Shep lives it seems.  That's a kick in the nuts.

Please send ME and PM too

I still hope this is all a big misunderstanding.

BUT:

For those saying that this is a great writing, "original", and a "happy ending" that would be the bad writing. The entire ME series is a bad rip off of Star Trek/Wars. But it had OPTIONS! As in a GAME, where YOU CHOOSE your destiny. The "ultimate sacrifice" is very original because it was never writen... sure... neither Matrix Revolutions... nor Saving Private Ryan... or a "gazillion" other movies, books, soap operas, etc. Wanna talk about original writing? Then forget about Mass Effect. It's a GENERIC SPACE SOAP OPERA. The only thing that made it great was the fact that we could "be" the saviour of the galaxy, and for some, walk into the sunshine with their LI's.
As someone said a few posts earlier, if there was the "disney" ending, nobody would complain that there was an "everybody dies" ending. But just because there is no such option, the "bittersweet lovers" suddenly start their "mature" opinions on "it's a war, of course this should be the only option". Fu**! I paid a s***load of money to see the story to the end as Bioware promised. I understand there would be sacrifices, I understand lot's of friends/civilizations would die.
But either the main character dies, or his friends die of starvation in the island of Lost. Then what does it matter to play and pick your choices carefully? If I replay the entire game doing anything I want, there will be no difference, the ending will be exactly the same.
Where are the EFFFFINNN options???? And why are people so happy to say "deal with it" just because other people wanted a different ending. So now only what you want is good. What if the ONLY ending was the "Disney" ending. Would you say "Deal with it" too?

They don't have a home planet. They just drift in Dark Space. There is no "home planet."

(turning the Citadel into a Mass Relay but this time we'll pay the Reapers a visit not vica versa) and find a solution to drive them off our Galaxy...

Here's a question: even if there was some Reaper Planet floating out in Dark Space somewhere, why would the Reapers keep the key to their own defeat around?

even maybe contacting other Galaxies for help (through the Citadel relay we travel to Andromeda)...

Do you have... ANY idea how impractical that is? Another galaxy? Wait, I know what you're getting at... you're asking them to retcon the location of the Reaper "homeworld" so that it's in the galaxy next door, rather than in Dark Space.

Well, uh, that wouldn't be patchy writing at all, so full steam ahead, I say.Posted Image

I don't think they allow trolls in disneyland. Maybe the farm though , if it has a creek with a bridge.

OBJECTION!!!

Cheshire Cat is a huge troll!

If there is no happy ending, I'm sure BioWare is expecting a trove of hate from the fans and maybe a huge drop in their profits because no one is going to keep buying their games if they emotionally invest players for 8+ years just to troll them. Would be a bad business move.

If I want disappointment and despair... I'll turn on the freakin' news.  Video games are my escape from all the turmoil and chaos in the world and in my personal life.

To me, the point of fighting the REapers and all the destruction, death and chaos they're causing is to fight for an ending which would make the sacrifice worth it and not merely bittersweet.

Hopefully this rumor is a false one.

At least I won't cancel my preorder.

Still, the endings - if there's no other, more happy one, are saddening.

It's funny how some think that happy ending equals cliche mass of bad writing.
If anything that's just a poor founded opinion of what makes a good story.

Everything regarding the ending is for me very fragmented at this point so I'll wait and judge until I've played it.

Someone should make one of those humorous meme images about that:

"Wants to escape from turmoil and chaos"
[insert player face here]
"Finds war and explosions"

Or something like that.

For everyone who hasn't read it yet, I'll just say this:

It sounds like total bull ****. I think we're getting trolled. There are such insane flaws in his summary that I cannot, for a second, believe that Bioware would end it that way. I know a lot of people are angry from what they've heard, but as I read the summary, I literally sighed. It's so stupid that it can't be true. I was practically relieved as I read it.
