I still hope this is all a big misunderstanding.
BUT:
For those saying that this is a great writing, "original", and a "happy ending" that would be the bad writing. The entire ME series is a bad rip off of Star Trek/Wars. But it had OPTIONS! As in a GAME, where YOU CHOOSE your destiny. The "ultimate sacrifice" is very original because it was never writen... sure... neither Matrix Revolutions... nor Saving Private Ryan... or a "gazillion" other movies, books, soap operas, etc. Wanna talk about original writing? Then forget about Mass Effect. It's a GENERIC SPACE SOAP OPERA. The only thing that made it great was the fact that we could "be" the saviour of the galaxy, and for some, walk into the sunshine with their LI's.
As someone said a few posts earlier, if there was the "disney" ending, nobody would complain that there was an "everybody dies" ending. But just because there is no such option, the "bittersweet lovers" suddenly start their "mature" opinions on "it's a war, of course this should be the only option". Fu**! I paid a s***load of money to see the story to the end as Bioware promised. I understand there would be sacrifices, I understand lot's of friends/civilizations would die.
But either the main character dies, or his friends die of starvation in the island of Lost. Then what does it matter to play and pick your choices carefully? If I replay the entire game doing anything I want, there will be no difference, the ending will be exactly the same.
Where are the EFFFFINNN options???? And why are people so happy to say "deal with it" just because other people wanted a different ending. So now only what you want is good. What if the ONLY ending was the "Disney" ending. Would you say "Deal with it" too?
