I wish Lucas wasn't defined by Star Wars and Indiana Jones. To me, his greatest film has always been American Graffiti. It's a magnificent examination of coming of age at the end of an era, with a lovely soundtrack, great cars, and a bunch of really talented actors. One of the best period pieces anyone has ever done.

It was good, it really was, but I still prefer his Star Wars trilogy.

In a sense I can agree; Star Wars is incredibly imaginitive and was huge in scope. Star Wars is more ambitious for sure, but I just thought AG had a ton of heart. It's a movie that speaks to me on a more personal level.

Oh, it definitely had a ton of heart. No arguments there. Great flick.

For the last time, this is not life, this is a game. I don't play games to get a dose of realism, I play them to escape from it.

Yeah, you didn't major in business, I'm guessing.

And where did you get the 90% from anyway? Also, you do not know, a lot of less vocal fans may LIKE the ending.

Also appealing to die hard fans can limit your expansion and growth, you can't get by appealing to the same fans over and over.

It's an estimation.  86% of all statistics are made up on the spot.  But it seems like its accurate enough.

Listen, I am, for all intents and purposes, a Bioware fanboy.  I've defended it time and time again, I even liked DA2 and played through it about 10 times when it first came out.  I'm sure I'll love ME3. This is really the first time I've ever said a word against the company, and I'm even mitigating a lot of my criticism here.  I just think it's a bad idea to separate Shepard from his crew, that's all.  Everything else I can live with. but the relationships between the characters mean a lot to me.  I don't really think it's fair to allow us to develop relationships with these characters and have the only payoff be our two favorite characters getting off the Normandy right after Joker as they begin the rest of their life stranded on an unknown planet.

But if you try, sometimes you get what you need. In theory.

Gosh, I bet I'm not a fan:

KOTOR (PC)
Jade Empire (Xbox)
Jade Empire (PC)
Mass Effect (360)
Mass Effect (PC)
Dragon Age Origins (360)
Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition (PC)
Mass Effect 2 with all DLC (360)
Mass Effect 2 with all DLC (PC)
Dragon Age 2 (PC)

Nope, not a fan *anymore.*

A character whose life is turned upside down by a vicious attack becomes part of a secret or special order with power, He is accompanied by a martial and magical character who gets most of the character development while the rest of the cast is just talking codex entries. They do 4 main quests or planets using their apsect of their order to accomplish their goals. Then hero defeats the bad guy and we have a butterflies ending or a jerkface ending with the romance character in tow ever after.

The standard Bioware formula....which they need to break. Which they are doing and the fans whining.

Well hey, us gays (or non heteros more so in my case) got what we wanted. I'm alright with any ending, just as long as my manShep can get with a dude. My main, a femShep, won't have a love interest, so it's all good. (In the true feminist style. -nod-)

I don't understand the logic here...

It's almost like getting mad at a car company for making cars that consistantly work....

GOD DAMNIT HONDA WHY WONT MY CAR FREAKING DIE!!!!

That's what it sounds like you are saying.

hahaha, true.  The main character surviving and living out his days with his love interest is not the "standard Bioware formula," it's one that has persisted SINCE THE BEGINNING OF LITERATURE.  And with good reason.

im happy for you and the gay community for getting gay relationships in the game but if all you care about is the relationship then why are you even here? This is a discussion about the ending and Shepard's final battle with the Reapers. The love interest and/or Shepard are gonna die anyway

No, people are complaining because everything we have done is effectively moot. They can break the formula without screwing people who care about what happens.

Exactly. I don't care if it's a bittersweet ending, but give Shepard a reward to show that she/he actually accomplished something. So the universe is saved, whoop de freaking do. As Mordin says, "For this fight, want personal connection. Can't anthropomorphize Galaxy." Taking away the people Shepard was fighting to save is just one big kick in the balls with no silver lining.

so lets tell the same story over and over again using all the same cliches....I am pretty sure that would be criticized....oh wait it has.

You have to grow and take risks....oh wait American car companies kept making the same old cars which worked int he past, guess what? They had to be bailed out. You have to grow and change.

I sorta get what he's saying, but I disagree with it. There's certainly something to be said for innovation and breaking of formula, but its not what I want from this game. If you want something stylistically ambitious and depressing, there are numerous beautiful indy games to play. Bioware games, to me, are the gaming equivalent of comfort food. I want to ride off into the sunset with my love interest and my homies, satisfied by a job well done. If I want a game to challenge me on an intellectual level, I look for it somewhere else. Bioware is supposed to be my summer blockbuster.

Hey, I'm excited that my male Shepard gets to romance a guy too.  Too bad the relationship will only last for the duration of the game and then they'll never see each other again.  If anything, we should be even angrier than most people for having our LI snatched away at the end.

And people are complaining because they lack proper context.....nevermind the fact that Shep could sacrifice himself and maybe even his connections with the crew to save them....you do not have the context.

I've already posted numerous things about this whole situation.  I'm continuing my own train of thought.  This thread actually started off with a debate about whether or not this information was correct.  Then it turned mostly into people complaining that there wasn't an ending where everyone survived (crew and squad) survived and the relays were intact, and then everyone complaining that Shepard can't be with the love interest.  Now it's people saying they have already cancelled their pre-order because of this.  So...my comment is not off topic, since this thread has lost any sense of its original topic.  That being no "happy" ending whatsoever.
