my cousins husband works for bioware and i got some info this morning on the ending.
after shep is hit with the red beam he is indoctrinated by harbinger and its a hallucination of how shep thinks it would pan out, thats why anderson is there with you and your crew is magically teleported to the normandy on a planet and they all are safe, you will also see in the endings where shep lives that it shows him in a pile of rubble on earth and then he takes a breath for split second, my cousins husband also told me there will be dlc to continue the story in about a month.

Well, it doesn't have to be true, since my father and my evil twin-brother are also working for BioWare O.o
Speculations, possibilities, let's wait for Casey and Mike to react.

It's pretty bad when an experience like this makes me afraid to do the things I love doing. I don't want to play ANY games, because the last time my Xbox was turned on, I saw these endings. I thought about going to GameStop today when I was out running errands, but decided against it because I highly doubt I could have avoided kicking the door in and flipping out and screaming at the employees for selling me something so depressing and upsetting.

I hate to say it, but if some appeasement doesn't come our way, gaming itself may have lost a member.

Yeah I kinda feel that way too.

This is exactly like i reacted. I thought "Ok maybe sheperd dies but how bad could it possibly be?" I couldn't understand all the fuzz until i saw it with my own eyes.

On the other hand. If the Indoctrination theory is right (or close to it) the real-end-DLC would sell like gold. Probably get the writers a dozen awards for best marketing coupe in recent gaming history.

You reading this Bioware? Make it happen!

More like the stupidist scheme. Yes, lets ****** off the fans. Not tell them it wasn't the real ending. Then sell them the real ending.

And anyone who bought it would be a damn fool.

You're absolutely right.

Just in my case, they won.

I'm fool enough at this point to pay for a better ending. And restore my will to replay in the process.
These games are so great... but with this ending, as another poster put it ... what's the point?

Dont see it anymore.. It's just sad. :(

I cried when Mordin died, I cried when Thane died, I cried when I said all my goodbyes to my friends. But I cried hardest when I realized that none of my choices from the past three games had any actual relevance to the finale, and that BioWare probably doesn't care enough to fix it anytime soon. (I'm a girl by the way, don't call me a **** for crying so much).

Me as well, but I'm a guy. We all have shed tears and man-tears alike, this is a place where we can all mourn the our losses, and ban together to make BW feel the hurt as well. This game has put me through an emotional ringer....and now I'm going to do my best to make sure no one else has to feel this as well.

Obviously he would say that. He's trying to sell DLC. If you delete all your saves, you can't play them. But when you destroy a universe and a franchise, it's absurd to imagine the playerbase will be like, "Thank you for that kick in the face, sir! I would love to buy your new product!" <3

I agree. I've gotten very emotional at game endings before, MGS4, Red Dead Redemption, Dragon Age: Awakening and 2... but never has a game I've loved had an ending that completely destroyed the universe it's set in before. It's like I just ate the best chili in the world, then got told it was made from my parents. The chili was amazing but I could never eat it again.

Not much really. A few reposts of tweets. We got featured on SourceFed. Emm.... I guess thats it. Oh and obviously, more people are finishing the game which means more support.

About halfway through this game I was thinking about replaying ME1 and 2 again just to make different choices see how it plays out. Now that I've finished it, maybe that I'm kinda numb from the let down of an ending i don't know if i can bring myself to replay them.

Having now seen the end, or should I say my end, in context i'm surprised to find I don't actually mind it that much, even kinda satisfied with it. I'm even fairly embarrassed by some of the things I said about it before seeing it myself.

The 'starkid' did a ghostbusters and used an image from shep's mind as a form to interact with him and it wasn't exactly a stretch of the imagination to figure that after shep went into the beam the rest of the crew, unable to reach it either had joker pick them up or shuttled up to it in an effort to approach the citadel then when it was about to do its thing unable to know exactly what the effect would be they got the hell away from it.

Not having the right to fundamentally alter the DNA of trillions of people whether they liked it or not and not willing to be the one to control the reapers I just blew the damn thing up.

As far as i'm aware the relays did not blow up and the Normandy no doubt has a beefy distress signal, where they might have crashed could be extrapolated from their last known location and trajectory so help would be on the way when they don't report in.

Would I like a long epilogue explaining all the details and what happened to everyone? sure, i'm one of those gamers that eats that stuff up but i wouldn't categorize not having that as 'wrong'

Actually, the ghost kid said himself that the relays would blow up.  And we know, through the in-game codex and the DLC 'The Arrival', that a mass relay exploding takes out all terrestrial planets in a solar system.

The relays were destroyed, but you're assuming they blew up in the same way as what happens when you collide a large asteroid with one.  No one knew what the physical consequences of what the crucible/catalyst would have on the relays, since such a thing has never been done before, so I don't see how that particular detail could be in the codex (beyond hypotheses).  In any case, we know it's not the same effect; Earth is still there if you destroy the relays.

They violated their own canon, if that were the case.  If you look in the codex in game, it specifically says 'destruction of a mass relay is infeasible'  it goes on further to say 'a ruptured relay unleashes enough energy to ruin any terrestrial world in the relay's solar system'.

Furthermore, we don't see Earth AFTER the relay explodes, we see it before.

It amazes me how many people call us whiners we paid 60-85 damn dollars for this game I think we have the right to complain we all felt cheated at the end.

Yeah I paid $80,not to mention $30 for ME,$25 for ME2 Plus about 60 for it's DLC,and then there is the over 100+ hourse I spent playing these games since 2007.  Also the fact that I jusped through ever hoop they put in front of me to keep my crew alive and unite the galaxy.  I am not playing this game again and if Bioware wants my money for DLC or any of their other games they need to fix this ending.  I will not be investing any more of my time and money into bioware games.  What is the point?  They make a big deal about letting you make all this choices and shape your character and the galaxy and then they just ignore them and have Shepard behave in a way my Shepard never would and render the past two game spointless?!  I hate being depress Biowares seems to think that depression is what life is all about so they just lost my money.

Hello everyone.
I have been reading this forum since I finished ME 3 a few days ago. I think I was looking for some explanation or even hope that there is more to come. It is hard to read every single post here, but I think almost everything has been said and it would be rather difficult to add anything new. I just wanted to say that my headcanon deeply and utterly believes in the indoctrination theory as much as I still believe in BioWare (after a few days of infinite rage, of course). I do not want to accept the possibility that they would allow themselves to sink so low, that is why I am going to replay every part of the game to get my another perfect Shepard and wait for a final solution from BW, they had better not let me down ;)
I was quite surprised, though, when I found out that Drew Karpyshyn left BioWare to focus on his own projects. I have a feeling that he did not agree with these endings (if we assume they are not going to be changed or explained), but on the other hand I do not want to speculate anything. I guess the only thing left is to wait for BioWare to soothe my nerves. Long live the headcanon.

Well that sucks.

My biggest gripe with the ending wasn't that Shepard died, didn't get a big happy LI reunion or anything like that, but it destroyed the entire ME universe. I tried to start a second playthrough right now but I just can't... ugh.

He said that he would save his saves forever if we had known what Bioware is planning. He is inconsistent bastard!

I doubt that anyone from BioWare will make any clear statements along the lines of "the ending is getting fixed" with the game not even out in some regions. That would probably lead to many cancelling their preoders and many not buying the game post-release. Also, I don't think that they have enough time now to acknowledge the problem publicly and develop a DLC/patch as a day one addition for those regions.

I suppose that all we can do is just keep up the criticism and remain civilized about it.

More from Kotaku.

Oh look, another piece from Kotaku saying we're all idiots and that CLEARLY the ending of ME3 was just literary genius that was supposed to make us all depressed and hopeless. Nevermind the plotholes, huge shift in tone, stripping away our choices, and abject change in Shepard's character. Nope, clearly my 134 hours and 50 minutes of gameplay were all just giving me an illusion of choice, and there's noting wrong with that.

Well they got one thing right, it sure is depressing.

If Bioware ever listens to us or come out and say that this was their plan all along, I swear I am writing a letter to every single one of those "journalists" and thanking them for their support but informing them that they were mistaken; that was not the right ending.
I hate journalists who go against the mass population. I mean, aren't they supposed to inform people without being biased? I know there are some who are opinion writers, but...seriously? Can't they write about without sounding like they're superior and more awesome than everyone else?
All I hear from them is "I thought the ending was awesome, but you didn't.  But this is the ending, so deal with it". <_<

Since I see everyone here are venting their ideas/frustration about the game ending, I thought I could add a few bytes to the board's size.

First off, the game was AWESOME. And then I got to the citadel.
(By the way, anyone else tried to shoot the keepers yet to no avail?)

The ending :

Perhaps the whole idea of this current ending is on purpose (doh), and that is in order to buy time until the last release date, so all players could actually finish the game at the same time and not spoil the ending for the guys in the east. (Like what is happening now)

Perhaps this is a press trick, Bioware fails to deliver, then saves the day and wins back the hearts of more than (or almost) 30k and growing fans.

And perhaps its also final.
But if this is final, where the hell is the Epilogue?
Who turned alcoholic due to nightmares of the war? Who became a leader? How the hell did Joker teleport my Squad to the Normandy while I thought that they were vaporized by a reaper beam?

Greetings from Israel.

I won't be paying for a proper ending. It should've been in the game. I would've paid for continued adventures, but at this stage, I am completely uninterested in continuing in the Mass Effect universe.

I would like to see Bioware apologize and issue a free DLC to fix it. If they do this, then /respect.

At this juncture, I wouldn't be surprised if they claim "indoctrination / it was all a dream" was the plan all along, and then fix things in a paid DLC. But would any of you really believe there was a master plan, after the trouble they had with the writing staff and the complete changing of horses mid-stream from ME2 to ME3? I mean, all that dark energy stuff just kind of petered off, and we got this instead.

Hm.

I would, but that doesnt mean i will pay for something that should be in my game already.
