"Even if this was the intent, though, the execution puts this idea across in a way that seems designed to be as jarring as possible to longtime players. After the series has spent dozens of hours training the player to expect their every decision to have a meaningful impact on what happens down the line, it's more than a bit off-putting to be confronted with an ending where your decisions have absolutely no impact on major, galaxy-changing events. It's as if the creators at Bioware have let players build an elaborate, twisting ant colony over a span of years, then came along and blasted that colony away with a leaf blower at the last second just to prove that they could (and to make a point about how the universe works)."

It falls to a somewhat balanced review over the fact they don't expect it to be changed, but generally they seem to acknowledge what we really have a problem with as it relates to the ending.

There's one thing I don't get. This AI controlling the citadel is omniscient and the Reapers all-powerful and their goal is to protect organic life from synthetic. Why don't the reapers just destroy synthetics when they're created and tell organics they're next if they don't stop creating synthetics.

Better yet, why didn't the Catalyst AI just override your attempts to stop Sovereign in the first game?  :?

(I'm sure it was mentioned somewhere in the 864 previous pages, but this platform is not devoting significant run-time to filtering that data.)

You really should have had a Captain Kirk "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A NO-WIN SCENARIO" option and thrown the Geth/Quarian peace in the Catalyst's virtual face. I was WAITING for that.

No doubt. I was just sitting there thinking, not 7 or 8 hours ago I just brokered peace between organics and synthetics. I also felt like saying "Peace is never guaranteed even just among organics, look at what happened to the Krogan and Rachni. Their entire races were standing on the precipice of extinction."

Has anyone finished a new game plus run? Is it the same? Is the ending any different?

I thought it was translator microbes that were injected into a person's foot at birth which... oh, wait. Wrong series. But seriously (and I know this is off topic) is that ever explained? or is it really just more space magic?

On-topic: I'm seeing alot of comments on Kotaku supporting our side and tearing through every argument against us. Maybe those morons at Kotaku will finally get the picture.

The Omnitools autotranslate for you. It's said in one of the books. I think the 3rd one.

It's a minor plot point in the "Bring Down the Sky" DLC from ME1.  The first time you run into the Batarians, you just hear them speaking gibberish.  Your translation tool promptly downloads the necessary software to translate Batarian speech, and you hear them in your native language for the rest of the mission.

ah, so it's explained in the material I never bothered to get. Figures. Still glad they actually thought all this out and made it make sense with the series' internal logic. Really makes you wonder what happened that we went from beautifully logical universe to god-child paradox.

not so mad Shepard died...... just mad he died cause some star child reaper god said it would be a good idea to "choose one of these three pretty lights" and Shepard just goes "kay". which just boggles the mind since Bioware built him up as this strong willed Protagonist who questions everything....

Just here to throw in my support for different endings, the games were a great journey one that i enjoyed very much..... That being said, the destination completly ruined the Journey. I now have no want to play Mass Effect 1,2, or 3. Since no matter what decisions we make throughout the previous games or current game Shepard failes no matter what.

P.S      Most of us did not want a "happy end" just and ending that made sense and fit with the rest of the story. :(

Heeey, I wanted a happy ending. That's why I redid so many of the missions and completely scraped my Geth section so the Geth and Quarrians would be saved.

I want a happy ending; and damn it if I didn't work for it.<_<

Why is everything EA's fault? BioWare received extra money because of EA to dev games and that's the ending they came up with.

Too bad everyone that has posted has not actually picked up the phone and called the company to complain. That would get their attention fast!

Sorry, can't stop spamming.

In the other (german) ME-forum I write in, there are still new registered users, totally disappointed about the ending.

My response to all of them:  Retake Mass Effect :3

hahahaha

the polls is at 30k people against the endings? and i think that this number isn't quite representative of the amount or people that agree with us. I know about 10 of my friends hate the endings just as much as us, but only one at the most posts on this forum. and I'm only like 25% sure that he would post on here anyway. so I think there are tons more people that don't post on here but yet hate the ending.

also, i have about 5 friends and both of my brothers who are still playing the game. they play like maybe an hour or 2 every day or 2. It's going to be weeks before they finish and they will hate the endings as well. So Bioware should also take into consideration all of the people that havent even beat it yet.

Yep, and you can also consider 30k out of how many that actually register for BSN and it must be a damn high %.

Because that is logical

lol well if we wanna argue logic. How did the protheans disable the God Child signal in 1? Why would the God Child LET them? After 1 when there was obviously more to the Citadel than met the eye why didn't they start exploring? Wouldn't it make more sense that the Crucible was the giant Mass Accelerator talked about in 2 since it can obviously wreck a reaper? Why doesn't the galaxy implode when every relay blows up at the same time ala Arrival DLC?

This is ME3 and we will not have any of that logical grand standing here lol.

its the same ending you get if you imported a Shepard from a previous Mass Effect, its just the scene with the stargazer and kid. :pinched:

Everyone knows space magic comes in only 4 varieties.  Red (F the whole galaxy), Blue(Mind control cthulu), and Green (Everyone is half robot now!)    There's a lesser known Yellow (Dance party!) but no one picks that one.

What I don't get is why they felt there ever was a need to explain the reapers? They don't need to be explained, that will just ruin the mystery (and potential sequels) and the starchild, wtf? Deus ex machina at it's very worst.

My son just finished playing ME3, now he's playing Skyrim. Again.

And no, I didn't spoil the ending for him, I let him make up his own mind about it.

stupid question... when has Bioware ever given us control over the ending? In ME1, Saren (either by you killing him, or by him killing himself) died, Sovereign Died, and you decide the fate of the current council. All three things happen in any ME1 game. All the endings are virtually the same. It's just a matter of how paragon or renegade you want to go with it.

In ME2, you have to destroy the Collector base, or keep it. The only difference between each end-game play through is how many people live to tell about it. How is that a different ending at all? Really.

In ME3 we get to decide between 3 different options. If we have a high enough EMS we get to see a clip of shepherd taking in a breath of air, showing that he lived. Once again... not a whole lot of choice. So, why complain about something we were never given, and never promised? Everything you do prior to the endings. DOES matter because your decisions RADICALLY effect your EMS. It just doesn't matter in the context of the ending, because Bioware can't make 16 totally different endings dependent on the hundreds of choices you can make in the game.

I am happy that I got 3 options instead of 2, and more meaningful variables of who lives and dies on earth and, to a degree, throughout the galaxy, versus who lives and who dies on my ship.
