So we can't get the ending we want after all?

This ending is… wildly dissonant with the rest of the
franchise.

How can such loving detail be put into every other aspect of
the game: the side missions, codex, planet descriptions, character arcs, weaponry,
etc., yet the ending be so… utterly ham-handed and vanilla? Happy endings be
damned. I want to know what happened to my team – the characters I have come to
care for deeply over the years, through multiple play-throughs of what could
have been the greatest science fiction saga… well… ever.

Instead, they “forgot” to punctuate the sentence, and in
doing so failed to honor all of the time, money, and support we have shown this
franchise.

How could this happen?

It had to of happened by design. This is not a glaring
mistake; a massive failure to connect with their audience. Not an artistic
statement that we – the Mess Affect-ed - “just don’t grok.” No, this is a
scheme; a way to get us to buy the inevitable releases of what we currently
crave – closure. Simple supply and demand. Closure should have absolutely been
included in the price of admission, and leaving it out was unconscionable – but potentially
lucrative. We’ll see.

And, truth be told, I will probably buy the DLC if it
addresses the ending. I am that vested in emotional capital. I will download
the content and do so with guilt and shame, because I don’t feel as though they
should have this power over me, and if I were stronger I would tell them to
shove their DLC.

If the DLC doesn’t address the ending, I probably won’t buy
it, nor will I play ME3 again. The universe as it was and as it sits, is no
longer, in my mind.

What’s interesting to me is that this ploy really wasn’t
needed. I, along with a significant number of you, would have bought any new
DLC presented. We would have handed over our money eagerly to tie up loose ends
and to continue to enjoy the wonderful world that was crafted…

…and is now destroyed.

We, those in this thread and those of who are like minded,
only have a brief moment in time to express our displeasure at this. Do not be
swayed by those pundits that scoff and tell you to suck it up and move on.

Hold the line.

And remember this feeling. We cannot un-buy ME3, but we can ensure
this breach of trust never happens again.

Same here. A guess a wizard did that too. A bad wizard.

Wizards have always been a nuisance.  We thought we got rid of them in the Dark Ages, but they returned during the Reaper invasion.  They just won't die.

I mean why did we even do the Spanish Inquistion quest? Shouldn't that have taken care of the space wizard problem?

See?  I get it now.  The endings to Mass Effect 3 point to one thing: the beginning of a new cycle.  The return of the Space Wizards.  If you thought the Reapers were bad, you're in for a ride.  Reapers are creations of Space Wizards.

Cut off from the beam after shep goes through the crew shuttles up to the normandy or joker come to pick them up, in an effort to reach the citidel, the largest WMD in all creation is building up energy and no one knows exactly what it will do, you bet you ass they got outta the area.
The relays were NOT destroyed, undeniable evidence being sheps still alive, if the relays went up everything in sol would have been wiped out, the red lines on the galaxy map was just showing the path of the energy.
Given the relays are in fact intact and the normandy no doubt has a beefy distress signal once they don't report in it wouldn't be long till they're found.

Anything else?

I don't get why BW would do something like this. It completely bends over their own franchise. Mass Effect has the potential to be as big as Star Wars or Star Trek but by using this ending they shoot down hundreds of potential spin-off projects that could make them a ton of cash.

Just think of the number of different types of games you could set in the Mass Effect universe immediately post-reaper invasion: RTS, FPS, 4X, space combat sim, more RPG or course...
Why would Bioware throw away so much potential?

I have a question about the suicide charge - death beam run. Do your squad mates die? I've heard conflicting things so I was just wondering if anyone on here knew the answer...or is it just another plot hole? Since this is apparently the scene they "teleport" magically to the Normandy...

Cause if they die (even if they some how make it back on the Normandy) I want to bring squad mates I don't care too much about...

Depends on war assets whether you see their dead bodies or not.

7000+ and 100 or 99% readiness

I know my Shep is gonna live but I didn't know if it was default for the squad to die there

It's when you get up to go to the beam up to the citadel, not in the ending. The first time when I had below 3k assets I landed face first in a dead Garrus and saw a dead Liara near by. If you had enough war assets, their bodies don't appear during that scene. I don't know anything more than that.

Instead they teleport to the Normandy to die on a civilization forsaken planet.

Another thing I am curious about. I know the squad teleports but what about everyone else Shep left behind before the final assault? Are they also teleported?

To be perfectly honest, the first run through I assumed that meant your squadmates and Joker had died and it was some weird death scene, since it showed that scene with Joker not really successfully outrunning, and I still remembered seeing Garrus dead. Explains why no one else except Liara came out, who was also seen dead.

Damn it! I was expecting to get a great night's sleep (even if I was up all night finishing ME3) feeling super warm and fuzzy. Instead I can't even sleep.

Oh no the indoctrination of magic plot whole fixes has already begun. The Space Wizards are among us.
(but seriously Joker got out of the area leaving Shepard stranded on the giant bomb and the whole crew was cool with that?)

I saw that. It was posted earlier but it is good that you brought it up again. It's interesting how quickly they do an about face. The gameplay mechanic argument is great. However, I think the author is too dismissive of the plot hole issues as "creative" freedom.

I agree. It's such an absurd argument. It ignores the simple fact that ME3 is a creative work that's FOR someone other than BioWare or the writers who created the content: consumers. Sure, BioWare could write the ME 3 story so that the ending has a magical purple My Little Pony swoop down and carry Shepard away to Ilos in a shimmering silver bubble, and hey - as the author says - "as the creators of the content, BioWare can do whatever the hell they like." But we're not going to see that ending, are we. No, we aren't. Because BioWare knows that meeting certain well-understood quality standards has to trump "personal creative freedom", because it matters whether or not customers LIKE what they create.

The problem is: Watch closely. When the energy is transmitted to the Sol relay, it charges in the Mass Effect field for a few seconds before it gets shot out to the other relays by the effect. Close after the shot, but when the machine is still intact and the little circles turning, the mass effect field has disappeared. It carried on with the energy. So, Sol would not blow up. A later relay would though.  And with every really destroyed, there is no ME universe anymore, as the ME is "Widely lost" for a long time. Backup plan or not, the planets lack supplied to fund a project as big as a mass relay...I mean: Half of earth, Thessia and Palavan are ruins.

A truly well told ending would not require anyone to have to explain that much.  We end up having to assume why things happen, rather than knowing why they happened.  If the audience cannot clearly see the line from A to B when it's over, then you didn't make the line clear enough.

Guys, i like Space Wizard thing. I think i need a banner. Something like "me4 - Space Wizards return!".
Space magic can explain everything. We could have the Force! We could cast lightning bolts! That would be great... *sigh* ok... back to work

Here's how to explain it: Have a man in a big rainbow robe, with monitors watching the scene on Earth. He says "it is all going according to plan, the Space Wizards shall return!"

Then he turns, and it's Admiral Hackett, who had been a Space Wizard all along. The greatest plot twist in video game history.

I finished the game 3 days ago, playing each of the different endings, doing things differently each time since then and I still cannot wrap my head around what they were thinking about. I am amazed they thought this was good enough to put through as a final product.

However, I LOVE this thread, you guys are some seriously creative cats.

Those tricksy wizards got us to destroy our own Mass Effect Relays leaving the galaxy we worked so hard to bring together sperated and vulnerable.

Darn those Space Wizards! :wizard:

Again I am just curious if their deaths are default. Cause I am not going to have Garrus die on me when my Shep is gonna live.

I had 4500 ish war assets and 80-90 ish galactic readiness. Didnt see any dead bodies of my squad, instead both garrus and tali magically teleported to the Normandy
