Just to clarify, is the ending where Shepard bites the dust relatively positive on a larger scale?

Nope, Normandy/Crew still screwed, relays still destroyed, galactic civlization crippled.

Same as the other 2 endings.

@elegana, i'd even go so far as to add one more scene to your written ending that could be regarded to me  as the perfect ending.l

Imagine that unknown planet had some natives, maybe existing races or others alltogether. We see joker on a holotape depicting his life on the planet, interacting with the remaining crew and natives, showing him age over the years as the records go happy with his full life and the scene transissions to a human hand closing the holotape. Fast forward a few thousand years and civilization has flourished in this planet along with some visual cues that shows us that the normandy crew was important to this outcome like a statue of shepard and his/her crew on the central plaza or something like that.

I like that! :D

Like i've stated in the thread before... Dragon Age 2 had faults, but even it's endings were a lot better than what we're getting here.

Life for Hawke isn't over. He/She gets their LI, the civilization around him/her isn't ceasing to exist as he/she knows it.

The way I see it, when Shepard merges with the Reaper in the Synergy ending and everyone becomes half reaper - this is indeed a technological singularity. And thats f*ing awesome! Its the ultimate sacrifice.
Then it doesnt matter if the relays get destroyed or not, everyone is trans"human" (transorganic) now, this is a huge evolutionary leap. In fact its exactly the contrary of what the Reapers were trying to achieve. (supression of spacefaring intelligence). At that pace intelligence will spread throughout the whole universe to achieve the ultimate omega state - transforming the universe itself into a conscious entity. A scifi fan's wet dream.

It's like they took the DA2 ending, and removed the only aspects of it that fans could cling to. No LI, and no promise of something bigger on the horizon.

It's just... over.

I would love a ME ending like this, hearing the alternative....>.>

Ok, so we can start praying since now?

God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference.

See you in 2016 for Mass Effect 4 (If the game sells well I think will get a new trilogy on X720 and PS4)

It's amazing how you people paint Shepard as someone who can't cope with loss, and have no survival intentions or instincts on Earth.

Shepard /= You

It's not that Shepard can't take a loss or two. I'm pretty sure he can take the loss of the galactic society or so, since he knows the galaxy now has a chance to prosper without the Reapers.

However, Shepard basically loses ANYTHING. There's nothing left of what he had before. No friends, no family, no love, Earth is burning ... he's pretty much alone in the end.
And that's something hard to swallow.

Don't get it how earth burning if he safe it when destroying the reapers and about the ending i think that had to be after hi safe the galaxy and earth from the reapers to go to live the end of his days on a Citadel that would be wonderful ending oh yeah and to show their respect to him and his tem Citadel to make one big statue of them and Normandy:D

Well that sucks. I'm fine with sacrificing something, even the life of Shepard if it means the galaxy will benefit, but what possible reason would/should Shepard sacrifice himself if things are still FUBAR?

I can see that being selfish with have it's consequences, I can see that trying to sit on the fence will too, but what I can't understand is the complete lack of hope at the end in all scenarios.

I will happily sacrifice my Shepard, but I want to see that it was worth it. I don't mean I want life to continue as normal; it seems necessary to do away with all Reaper tech if we are to start again, but the real sucker lunch is what happens to the Normandy.

Seriously? Are we still in fear of Fox News?

Whoa wait... didn't Space Edition guy also said that sex scenes was all ME1 style?

And that holotape is found by your vanguard/soldier/whatever in the ME MMO? Image IPB

I always knew ME was gonna end bad the Reapers were to strong an enemy to defeat without something really drastic. The thing here is the same as always people here expected too much and when they don't get what they dreamed about dissapointment.

I just don't understand why they would get rid of all the tech and biotics and relays that DEFINE the mass effect universe if they are planning to make more games?

Indeed, Shepard would make for a good boss fight. Image IPB

Although... isn't he quite far away or something? Sigh, Revan Revan Revan... Image IPB

I can guess "Because it gives us the opportunity of moving the universe in exciting new ways! You haven't seen what we can do!"

or something else vague like that. And don't forget, devs always stand by their decision. They will give reasons why these endings are the "best" or something.

I'd be fine with the grimdark ending if it made sense. But flinging the Normandy to some distant corner of the galaxy WITHOUT SHEPARD seems so random. Even cruel. Like it was done to punish those who cared about the supporting characters.

I know that's not the case, but I keep trying to rationalize this and I just can't. Unless there is some super duper secret DLC ending, wrapping up the franchise on such a sour note feels wrong.

The german game review said that the game ended with no loose ends. Isn't the normandy crew off on some random planet stranded along with your LI a lose end?

@ghost rider lsov, i was tending more to a last survivor of the remaining crew or maybe even of a student looking through their past history at a solus academy so that their knowledge is never lost or something akin to that.

We all seem to be forgetting the most important question of all:

When my Shepard gets stranded for all eternity alone, does he/she at least get to keep his/her copy of Fornax I bought him/her on Omega in ME2? Eternity is a long time and it can get lonely...

Follow-up: Will Shepard get to keep his/her medi-gel in case things get rough? ;)

EDIT: P.S. The 24-hour turn-around before you can post here sucks. I sat on that gem since yesterday morning!

Yeah, I get what you mean,
I just say how it might appear as a future "carrot" for players. Image IPB

Because... it's not like Revan's mask and such was a carrot for SWTOR, right? Image IPB Image IPB
