Choosing Romances

In Mass Effect 2 I only have one male shepherd. I romanced Miranda, but now I come to find out that she's not even on the squad in ME3.
So I really wish I had romanced Tali instead so I could see the continuation of that in ME3.
Has there been anything said about whether new characters will get some sort of choose your own adventure in order to catch them up to ME3 and make some key decisions? I'd really hate to replay Mass Effect 2 again just for Tali.

Mass Effect will always be a high school drama to be and not a space opera

Garrus and Tali get more content than the other ME2 LIs, Miranda gets a decent amount of screentime, Jack at least has a continuation, and Jacob and Thane romancers are screwed.
But, as has been said, you either die or never see your LI again, so don't worry too much about it.

No one (I hope) begrudges your right to want to romance Liara and enjoy that romance and see it to its conclusion. All everyone else wants is equal treatment with the LI they chose to romance (either in ME1 or ME2 or, in fact, ME3). Some people are upset at the way Liara has consistently gotten preferential treatment in marketing and from the devs in terms of story. That works out great for you, and I'm happy you get to enjoy the game because of it. But surely it doesn't take even more than a modicum of empathy and common sense to recognise how those people that have seen their chosen LI shoved into the background precisely because of Liara's preferential treatment might be upset because of that?
I'd say most people would be glad you're getting what you want out of your game. Isn't it just and fair that they get the same chance?

^^^ I agree with this. Its the final game so everyone should have a completed ending with their romance, not something half finished or feels incomplete.

I understand what you are saying, but my comment goes to hose attacking Liara because of it. That is immaturity on a grand scale. If Liara was treated unfairly then I'd be classy about it. That is all

Easy for you to say that when she is the most favored LI by Bioware.

Basically -- if I start a new Shepherd in ME3, how much influence to get over what decisions I may have made in the previous games?
Mass Effect 2 had a few at the beginning, and then they added that comic book thingy which really let you decide most of the important things from ME1, even the LI.

Doesn't matter who you pick. You have a flashback to Liara at the end.
Ugh I love how BioWare tries to force FemShep towards Liara and forcing implied lesbianism. Even though Jacob is the cheesiest LI I'd like my Shepard to see him (since he's her favored LI) instead of her blue stalker friend no matter how many times I implement that she's straight as an arrow. Still she gets the damsel in distress and implied LI treatment. Nice

It's not likely in terms of LIs. We know that Liara, Ashley, Kaidan, Steve and Samantha are all available for 'new' romances in the third game, but Garrus and Tali are only available for 'continuing' ones. If you want to romance Tali, so far it seems you'll have to replay ME2.
