You can't import a face created in Mass Effect 1 into 3! Bioware has responded! (See OP)

Whether in how I interact or how I look, BW really doesn't seem to want me to be my Shepard anymore.

It affects one group of players but not the other:
a) Long-time fans of the series, which supported it from day one, are affected, since their ME1 Shepard is lost unless they can recreate him / her or extract the facecode (see OP). But still then there is the chance that Shep will look different in ME3 due to engine-changes.The target audience of the game is not affected. These players started maybe with ME2 or just now with ME3. Those are the "arcade" players, who buy games when they see them without the need to be attached to a series for years. It's probably the bigger group of the two and the one Bioware / EA hopes to get the most sales from.
So, from a strict business point of view, BiowEAre did everything right.
How did they do everything right? If they'd actually had it working properly, Audience B would have exactly what they already have, and Audience A would be happy too. Why does having the face importer actually work properly suddenly make Audience B unhappy?
You're right. I can only assume that they simply made a cost-gain-calculation, facing some technical difficulties we don't know of. It is obvious that in ME3 there are some engine changes that caused the face-import to bug out. And when the question whether to fix it or not came up they made the calculation...concluding that it is not worth it.
I mean...this is the result, isn't it? Until Bioware gives us an official reason (which I doubt) we can only speculate about it. But it wont change the outcome.

A new scar and shave his head... battle damage and a new attitude to take on the Reapers in a final battle.

While I have no doubts that the issue will be ultimately adressed simply by incorporating the ME1 to ME2 import method, I would not expect this to happen very soon.
You'd do well to keep this thread alive, but my advice would be to spend some time in the CC and attempt to recreate your character.
Coming from a corporate environment myself, a company's continued silence in the shadow of criticism usually implies not only admission of guilt but also an inability to immediately correct the issue at hand.

It's disappointed and a little shortsighted on Bioware's part but I'll just use it as a chance to add some story to my Shepard when I'm hit with the inevitable 'Can't Import' window.

And lots of autodialogue to define that attitude for you so you don't have to!
I honestly cannot believe what a worst case scenario this has become in so many ways.

That one I'm not so sure about anymore... a few of the reviews are saying there is a lot of choice in the dialogue. Have you picked up the game yet and has your experience of it been different?
If most of the choices have been taken away, it's just another sign that Bioware's turn to the EA side is complete. They don't care about that niche that have been with Mass Effect from the beginning... it's all about wider appeal and targetting that CoD crowd (their words, not mine).

Doesn't matter if your ME1 imported Shepard gets face code in ME2. It's wrong (it's one of the presets). You more than likely clicked the customize look option in ME2 and then reverted back to your original imported Shepard.Temp000002 wrote...

Yes, I have been playing through the PC version with a friend. My own xbox copy arrives today. when these reviewers are talking about choice, they mean plot decisions. The small incidentals in conversations where you added some nuance based on how you played your character are gone for the vast majority of the game. What choices are there are more a flag for the game to decide how to speak for you than you defining your character. It is disappointing, and the whole face import thing just feels like the insult to injury.

Question, again: Is that day one patch live or will it go live in the morning?
Yes, its live now.
No, it's not, because it doesn't actually patch, it just downloads "installs" and then when you launch the game it breaks reverting back to vanilla ME3.
They need to patch the patch.
