Just adding my voice to the party. I know a face is not really important, but it is our Shepard. One of the selling points of Mass Effect was to experience it with Your Shepard. I know you can just remake your face as the message suggests, but I really hate recreating things. Now, I hope that this error/bug/whatever is fixed today because I will be one of those people waiting to import my Shepard. Sorry to ask more of you, Bioware. I know it's selfish but I like my Shepard. He's a badass.

I seriously can't believe how TERRIBLE the face creator is. As stated many times, the face code looks absolutely NOTHING like my character. It is absolutely disgusting. Bioware, WTF were you thinking?

I've been so wrapped up regarding the autodialogue that I haven't addressed this. Actually...what is there to say...this is BW's own RROD.

Whether in how I interact or how I look, BW really doesn't seem to want me to be my Shepard anymore.

It affects one group of players but not the other:

a) Long-time fans of the series, which supported it from day one, are affected, since their ME1 Shepard is lost unless they can recreate him / her or extract the facecode (see OP). But still then there is the chance that Shep will look different in ME3 due to engine-changes.

B) The target audience of the game is not affected. These players started maybe with ME2 or just now with ME3. Those are the "arcade" players, who buy games when they see them without the need to be attached to a series for years. It's probably the bigger group of the two and the one Bioware / EA hopes to get the most sales from.

So, from a strict business point of view, BiowEAre did everything right. :(

How did they do everything right? If they'd actually had it working properly, Audience B would have exactly what they already have, and Audience A would be happy too. Why does having the face importer actually work properly suddenly make Audience B unhappy?

You're right. I can only assume that they simply made a cost-gain-calculation, facing some technical difficulties we don't know of. It is obvious that in ME3 there are some engine changes that caused the face-import to bug out. And when the question whether to fix it or not came up they made the calculation...concluding that it is not worth it.

I mean...this is the result, isn't it? Until Bioware gives us an official reason (which I doubt) we can only speculate about it. But it wont change the outcome.

I spent at least an hour lovingly crafting attractive and interesting faces for my paragon femShep and renegade manShep in ME1, spent hundreds of hours of my life exploring the galaxy with those characters, imported them into ME2 without a hitch, continued the story a further several hundred hours of my life, and now ME3, which I've been waiting literally YEARS to play, finally drops and I can't import MY Shepards? After I dropped @$80 for the DDE?! Seriously, EA / BioWare?!! Whisey tango foxtrot?!!!! This is a HUGE problem. If this issue isn't patched / fixed / unbroken and PRONTO, you can expect to not receive a cent from me in the future, and that includes the cancellation of my SWTOR account. Yeah, I'm that upset about this.

It's disappointing and a little shortsighted on Bioware's part but I'll just use it as a chance to add some story to my Shepard when I'm hit with the inevitable 'Can't Import' window.

A new scar and shave his head... battle damage and a new attitude to take on the Reapers in a final battle.

The funny thing is, it would have made sense to have this problem ME1 and ME2 story-wise. Shep was rebuilt from meat and tubes then. Now (s)he is fine, but looks more dead than on Alchera.

Bioware adopted the same approach of silence ( from a business standpoint, understandably so ) with DA2 and the initial backlash about Auto-Attack being adsent. They ended up adressing the issue in Patch 2 or 3, months after release.

While I have no doubts that the issue will be ultimately adressed simply by incorporating the ME1 to ME2 import method, I would not expect this to happen very soon.

You'd do well to keep this thread alive, but my advice would be to spend some time in the CC and attempt to recreate your character.

Coming from a corporate environment myself, a company's continued silence in the shadow of criticism usually implies not only admission of guilt but also an inability to immediately correct the issue at hand.

And lots of autodialogue to define that attitude for you so you don't have to!

I honestly cannot believe what a worst case scenario this has become in so many ways.

That one I'm not so sure about anymore... a few of the reviews are saying there is a lot of choice in the dialogue. Have you picked up the game yet and has your experience of it been different?

If most of the choices have been taken away, it's just another sign that Bioware's turn to the EA side is complete. They don't care about that niche that have been with Mass Effect from the beginning... it's all about wider appeal and targetting that CoD crowd (their words, not mine).

/snip

Doesn't matter if your ME1 imported Shepard gets face code in ME2. It's wrong (it's one of the presets). You more than likely clicked the customize look option in ME2 and then reverted back to your original imported Shepard.

Yes, I have been playing through the PC version with a friend. My own xbox copy arrives today. when these reviewers are talking about choice, they mean plot decisions. The small incidentals in conversations where you added some nuance based on how you played your character are gone for the vast majority of the game. What choices are there are more a flag for the game to decide how to speak for you than you defining your character. It is disappointing, and the whole face import thing just feels like the insult to injury.

I decided to not buy ME3 till everything is fixed, I have been a long time fan and I feel shafted. I cannot imort my savegames since I copied them to the cloud on 360 and bought a new xbox. On top off that if I could import I wouldnt be able to have my own face.

Waiting for patches till ill drop some money.

What happend to you BioWare? ;(

Question, again: Is that day one patch live or will it go live in the morning?

Yes, its live now.

No, it's not, because it doesn't actually patch, it just downloads "installs" and then when you launch the game it breaks reverting back to vanilla ME3.

They need to patch the patch.

BioWare, so much disappointment with this.

I get the game in approximately 26 hours. Please, please patch this.
