Added the Kotaku article to the OP. I heard that other gaming sites were reporting on this as well. Links?
As good as it is that they are reporting it, isn't it a bit late? They already got their sales, its too late for most people to cancel now. The whole thing stinks, the review sites must have known for weeks if they were playing the game for review, were they refusing to say for fear of EA's wrath, were they not allowed to say anything implying EA knew and silenced them or is it all just a big coincidence?
You can't import a face created in Mass Effect 1 into 3! Bioware has responded! (See OP)

Most reviewers were doing "everyman" playthoughs and not importing, it seems. Thats how it slipped though the cracks

4 Sheperds.
6 Downer Endings despite what you do or did in past ME games.
You're goin to be sad if you expect the other 3 playthroughs to be any different than the 1st.

And even better! You dont need to have the same look for all 3 games! Isn't that a great feature? *sarcams off*

Doesn't that strike you as suspicious too though? Maybe I'm paranoid here but that strikes me as overly convenient.Mr. Sean wrote...

I think you guys are overreacting. The way Shepard looks is not the defining continuous story feature.
That's your opinion, the fact however is that a defining game mechanic has ceased to work correctly in the final game of a trilogy.

No. But considering the constant use of "Emotionally engaging", "This is your story" and "All about choice", in every statement from Bioware you'd think that it would work properly.Nibwoddle wrote...

Disagree. TONS of people made the exact same story choices in both ME1 and ME2 as I did. Somewhere between NONE and VERY FEW people used the same FACE as I did for my shepherd. The face is what makes Shepherd unique to me, even if it isn't the thing that has the greatest story impact.
If I just wanted to continue from a select set of story decisions, I'd just download someone else's save who made the choices I want. I WANT MY SHEPHERD - NOT JUST A PREDEFINED SET OF STORY OPTIONS.

Sounds like EA/Bioware listened very well to a certain man called Peter Molyneux <_<

I feel terrible saying that, as I've defended your company time and time again. This feels like such a betrayal though. Just give us a real response, please.

The original cc could be as much as 6 or 7 years old. It's conceivable that the code just doesn't match anymore. Why not just tell us "we're trying to fix it, but take advantage of the demo to practice recreating your faces?"

Good one!

I don't think people are overreacting at all. There are many things that come into play with this.
1. With today's culture of gaming where devs try to force DLC down our throats from day one, tend to release a game unfinished knowing they can patch it later etc most gamers are on the edge of how much more BS they can take. For many all it takes is one last straw to set them off.
2. This particular bug seems to punish the fans who have been there since day 1 over the others. So the hardcore fans get the shaft while newer fans aren't affected. Another sign of today's gaming culture where it's all about getting new customers and not giving a damn about the ones you already have.
3. The most obvious reason is that it's a total immersion killer that affects players the FIRST MINUTE they put in the game. It's like waiting for the car of your dreams for over a year and when you finally save up enough money and buy it and the car starter is busted. It's such an obvious glaring issue you're suprised it wasn't addressed before it was given to you. Not a good first impression at all.
So on paper no it's not a big deal but there's more than meet's the eye. Trust me.

It is certainly an embarrassing oversight, and a little preposterous, to be sure. But what i care about is getting the problem solved, not finding opportunities to make snide comments that certainly aren't going to help their motivation. Making it clear that you plan to vote with your wallet would be a much stronger statement (particularly here rather than pettiness about "From Ashes" and such).
I get the frustration, don't get me wrong. I am tremendously frustrated, and if they remained all but silent an entire week leading into the release, that is pretty grimy. But it is what it is. I have to believe they are smart businesspeople (particularly if they're as moneygrubbingly greedy as some of y'all make them sound) and smart businesspeople want the problem fixed so the complaints, and bad blood, go away.
They removed the Mako after excessive complaints. Removed planet scanning. If they are willing to make drastic overhauls at the design level they can sure as hell patch a bug and I expect no less, both morally and practically speaking.
In the meantime, I'd really appreciate it if someone could either reply to me with or just PM me the best possible way to find my own damn way to fix it as a 360 user, because the OP links seemed quite confusing. One talked a lot about PC importing and thus I'm not sure if it'd work well for an Xbox. Another linked to a guy talking about scripts he'd made to automate the process of getting a facecode but I saw no links, nor info on whether it applies to 360 et al and if so how to apply it. And so on.
Thanks.

Honestly... how many of us would have cancelled preorders if Bioware had come to us a month ago, and was truthful?

I think a lot of people would have cancelled pre-orders and just bought the game after it was fixed. Obviously Bioware doesn't want people to do that so they have no reason to actually warn their paying customers in advance.

Alright, well, I'm still irritated, but I'm also not seeing why people seem to assume BW isn't going to patch it. Yeah, they already "got their money"... but with Dragon Age (I believe) being somewhat stagnant and the ME trilogy done, they're going to want to start a new franchise at some point, and also y'know, keep making games. They will lose business if they ignore it, and they know this. Unless they tell us to go suck a bag of dongs (in more polite speak, of course) I'm going to err on the side of them getting a patch up at some point in the near future.

People are assuming this as of now because if they are patching this problem,or working on this problem, then why don't they even acknowledge the damn problem in the first place.

Pathetic.
Anyway I'm off to go pick up my CE and I'll have to rip a face off masseffect 2 faces to play it through.....
Bioware will no longer get the benefit of the doubt from Colguile. They are in the same league as capcom as far as I am concerned.
