You can't import a face created in Mass Effect 1 into 3! Bioware has responded! (See OP)

Until then I don't see anything wrong with making a fuss about this, because there isn't any other way we can really motivate them to fix this problem ASAP.

With Mass Effect 2 they cut a lot of the features I liked tinkering with in the name of 'streamlining'. Dragon Age II did the same thing.
Now this face import problem they wont even acknowledge. A problem they must have been aware of or there wouldn't be an error message in game when it occurs.
Previously if I owned the platform it was released on I would buy the Bioware title without a second thought. Mass Effect 3 is the last title of their's that I am going to give that courtesy to.

I would have an easier time buying that they just couldn't fix the problem in time for the launch and didn't want to harm pre-sales and launch day sales, and so they stayed mum while working on the problem in silence. Which would allow them to fix it, hopefully, before people are finally beating the gigantic game and answering their friends when they ask "so how was it? Should I get into it?"
And I guess I'll put my money where my mouth is. As a fan of Game of Thrones and Bioware, when I heard of the incredibly liberal inspiration of the former on the Dragon Age series, I instantly decided to give the series a shot at some point, despite not being much of a fantasy guy. I'd even buy new, to get all the Zaeed-esque DLC and whatever. And I would buy the DLCs for the games as well.
Poof. Off with that money. I am perfectly willing to stop spending money on Bioware products if they show an unwillingness to fix a glaring issue such as this one. I've also put many friends onto the Mass Effect series, but I have plenty more potential converts in my circle. Poof goes their money as well -- for the ME series and any other BW products I was going to try out and presumably enjoy.
And I know my story isn't unique, so I would imagine this is a stronger statement than just that one fat guy from youtube ranting and raving about Day 1 DLC costing "TEN. AMERICAN dollars."
So there's my money somewhere in the region of where my mouth is. Meanwhile I'm going to stay optimistic, go the hell to bed, and hope to see a BW announcement/post/something when I wake up.
Take it easy y'all. Keep bumpin' the thread.
Question still stands, also.

Exactly, I'm not playing through with some new Shepard and ruining any surprises and story points in 3 for the sake of playing it, unless it's my canon Shepard, I'm not having it.

It's worth noting that the only reason I even bought this game in the first place was to see MY shepherd through to the end. I don't really care about the game so much as I care about the characters, and without having my shepherd, I just don't really care
I really, really hope someone loses their job over this.
Also, I'm at about a 9/10 on the frustration scale at the moment.

Bioware will no longer get the benefit of the doubt from Colguile. They are in the same league as capcom as far as I am concerned.

Granted I was able to get my Shep back using some work arounds that are posted on the first page. Only issue for me was that the hair and eye color came in wrong but that was easily fixed.
But seriously Bioware, you never thought to TEST this? What does that say about your Quality Assurance? It says it's downright NEGLIGENT.
And how long before someone posts a easy workaround and you decide "Wait! You're messing with OUR game CEASE AND DESIST LETTER AWAY!" And you sue someone for fixing your broken game.
Very disappointed.

It is certainly an embarrassing oversight, and a little preposterous, to be sure. But what i care about is getting the problem solved, not finding opportunities to make snide comments that certainly aren't going to help their motivation. Making it clear that you plan to vote with your wallet would be a much stronger statement (particularly here rather than pettiness about "From Ashes" and such).
Thanks.
From Ashes was petty stuff. This isn't. Even if it is "fixed" that will be how long? I mean for those of us on consoles they have a release date so this can't just be patched up today and likely we're looking at a week of having coasters and not a game.
I have ME2 only saves but I'm not going to "ruin" the first go through with those characters. All the characters I really want to send through the game came from ME1.

The biggest issue for me is what this says about their playtesting. The ONLY way for them not to know this was a problem was for them to have NEVER tested the game using a character created all the way back in ME1. Which means they never thought to test something as basic as the character import function which has been a major selling point of this series since Day 1. The idea that you're playing "YOUR" Shephard and not "Space Marine #5"
Very disappointed.
Is this a case where some ME1 options don't work? IIRC I couldn't pick the same scar from my ME1 shep onto an ME2 character so did they drop that texture? I could see this slipping by if only some of the billions of combinations don't work but if it is a flat ME1 don't work thing then that is awful.

"ME3 is a great point to jump into in the Trilogy!"
In a game about importing and choices that were said to matter in the end.

Than the cut scenes started and I just couldn't enjoy it. I sat staring at the face thinking this isn't right at all. Character design usually means nothing to me, but after so many play throughs, it just doesn't feel right.
I got it close, but I actually got disgusted and turned it off. Patching is good but I doubt I can revert the face back after I start the game, so I start it with the wrong face or wait for a possible... Possible fix.
It really surprised me how much that affected me and than I thought about how much I was invested in the ME universe over other games. It is nothing other than disappointing.

I think the frustration level would drop ten-fold if the problem was acknowledged, I sound like a broken record but I don't care.
Yeah if they just acknowledged the problem I'd calm down. Even if they said "Screw you morons. Thanks for your money but we're not fixing it." I'd calm down, because at least at that point I'd know that there is no point getting mad about it - I'd just have to get over it.
As it is, I plan to keep reminding them how game breaking this is until I hear something official from them.

That assumes they didn't know. Which seems unlikely to me given the advice they put out about starting with an unimported face.nighstalker160 wrote...

On a frustration level, where are y'all at right now?

that would be 0
I was able to recreate my shepard without a hitch, and even gave myself the luxury of changing her a little bit because lets be honest: Plot-wise its been 3 years since the first game. It would be absurd if shepard looked EXACTLY the same way. People change a little over the years, I know for a fact taht I'm not using the same hairstyle (or even same hair color) I was using 3 years ago, so I don't see why my shepard should.
And as I said in my previous response, I've seen games with WORST bugs than this that still were completely enjoyable (Skyrim comes to mind, I haven't seen a game that bugged since....... well, Oblivion actually. Yet I completely enjoyed it to no end)
People are blowing this thing out of proportion. Bioware took about 2 weeks to give a response to the Mass Effect: Deception fiasco, showing that they DO care, making patches isn't something that can be done overnight. If this issue wasn't discovered through testing, they indeed dropped the ball, but expecting them to whip-up a patch magically is pushing what a developer can do.
Me, I'm actually grateful for what we have, because I'm old enough to remember an age a long time ago before you kids started playing, that if a game was bugged, IT REMAINED BUGGED. FOREVER. If you wanted a bug fix you had to BUY THE GAME AGAIN once updated releases were...... well, released.
Today, we have the luxury of game devs that create bug-fixing patches FOR FREE so we can enjoy our games, and yet gamers complain
This is a MINOR bug that can be worked around if you actually take time to fiddle with the character creator (which I did, and was able to recreate all of my shepards without a single issue), So yeah, my frustration level is of 0
In fact, if I had any frustration, it would had been to see what a bunch of crybabies my fellow gamers have become, that they feel like they have to raise such a ruckus for every single issue.

Heh, I wasn't saying this is petty. I'm up in arms about it too. I even threw down an ultimatum that can cost the company thousands of dollars over the next few years just from my own influence, and I'm sure plenty of others could do the same. That was my point, I was saying the call to boycott over "From Ashes" was silly, but this is a legitimate case for it if they Capcom us.
