I breathed a sigh of releif until I saw him tell you to write the face code down. Which shows he didn't totally know what he was saying.

Realistically though, SOMEBODY at BW's studio must have tried importing their ME1 Shepard - if it didn't work, they must have caught it.

Importing a character is a pretty big part of this series, and if (if) Bioware failed to address such a basic issue, what else may have been glossed over instead of properly tested and implemented?

And he's answering a bunch of tweets that came after yours now too.

This is no bueno.

For sure, the codes aren't compatible... I remember doing this in ME2 ------> ME1. The code didn't work, and the reversed way doesn't work neither. But when clicking import will work for sure. Bioware would never let this one slip...

Clicking import is not working for multiple people, in regards to custom faces. Hence this thread. (All other info like class, who dies etc is sucesfully carried over regardless. This is strictly a cosmetic issue.)

-Skorpious- wrote...

Are there any known instances of
non-modified ME characters importing successfully? Or is this only an
issue with "fake" ME2 face codes on ME imports?

So far one of the people with this issue has confirmed that he did not have a "fake" ME2 face code, so it looks like it's just an ME1 import issue over all.

If this is true i wont buy the game. Whats the point of playing ME3 if my char looks different? Ruins almost everything.

Best way to figure out is to start a New Game + with the shep you're trying to recreate. It's annoying cause you have to sit through the intro, but when you get to the CC you'll have three options

Default
Imported Face and
Custom

So you can keep switching from Import to Custom to check your progress and see how close you're getting to the original face.

Why arent any Bioware representatives posting here? This needs clarification... Is there such a bug that ME1 faces get distorted? And if it is so, i mean... Don't they beta test stuff? Alpha test? Why even add new things if its broken? I bet that 99.9999999999999% of the population could have lived with the ME2 editor being ported as it was into ME3.

This needs clarification now, cause a blunder like this is so unlikely that it makes me worried.

Just tried this, and it worked perfectly. very easy to switch back and forth until it was precisely the same.
Thanks a lot my friend.

Glad I could help. I'm obsessively going over my sheps now too. Copying both ME2 codes and ME3 demo codes to compare when the game comes out.

Very nice, majority of my sheps do not have facecodes (import from ME1) but I would like to change hair styles or something. will try this. Thanks.

I always wanted to do this since I first beat ME2 a week after it came out. I loathed having to go in and actually do all the edits, but I finally just said "the hell with it" and did it a couple days ago after hearing this news.

I managed to recreate my Shep to the letter with realtivly little difficulty, which was surprising. So then you get the real face code of your ME1 imported headmorph, which is good to keep on file.

Then I plugged that code in the ME3 creator and it didn't translate too well, but it was close, close enough to get a face I was comfortable calling 'My Shepard' with a few tweaks. Then, yesterday I decided to refine it a bit more and am very pleased with the outcome. I'm so confident with the match that I hardly mind at all of this issue, and I was very upset at first.

I say this because I want people to know there's still hope you can work it out. With the time left until ME3 releases, there is still ample time to recreate your Shepard. Also quite fun to pass the time.

It is actually pretty fun. The only issue I have is that default shep is in between Import and Custom, so I sometimes have trouble judging if I got something right. I have to close my eyes the skip to the other option to make sure I got it right heh. It's also pretty late so I should probably just rest my eyes, it'll probably be better tomorrow.

I advise that people make a backup code in the CC on ME3 demo, just in case.

If you're on PC or have a way to get your 360 save files onto your system and want a more reliable method, try this:

It's a pain, but it works.

Yeah, but then the ME twitter told him to write his ME1 face code "just in case" and then ignored his tweets about how ME1 didn't have face codes.

It's an actual problem that people are not getting any face import at all. You're not the first one to come here and say "It's just a normal update" As the meme goes "We've dismissed that claim."

The people with this problem are not having an issue with an aesthetic update...they aren't getting their faces imported at all.

Thanks for asking the ME twitter, guys.

Billy Buskell/Ehlien replied to my tweet:
"you can definitely import your Mass Effect 2 Commander Shepard into Mass Effect 3 :-)"

I guess that means a ME1 Shepard that has been imported into ME2, should work in 3... right?!
