@joystiq93 You can import your original Shep but the graphics have obvs changed a little

Perhaps the developers have known from the start that importing is buggy?

Also, I tried this :

Best way to figure out is to start a New Game + with the shep you're trying to recreate. It's annoying cause you have to sit through the intro, but when you get to the CC you'll have three options

Default
Imported Face and
Custom

So you can keep switching from Import to Custom to check your progress and see how close you're getting to the original face.

And I regret to say my facecode did not even come close to looking like my guy in the demo of 3.   Then again, I think it was mentioned that the demo is missing a ton of options.

bump. can a dev EXPLICITLY address whether an ME1 character's FACE will import to ME3, through ME2 or even without ME2?

No............  they've already said it would.   I want it adressed if thier is a serious problem with importing, example:  Faces not looking the same.

Of course if thier was a problem thier is no way Bioware would spoil thier launch by admitting thier was an issue this close to launch.  No company would in this day and age.

i actually dont see a problem with admitting there's an issue, provided that admission is followed by an apology and a promise to get it sorted :) quickly ;)

Can't be bothered to read through the whole thread, but is the problem that faces don't work when importing ME1 saves? But ME2 saves that were ME1 imports are fine?

we have no idea. Many of the twitter responses have been pretty vague.

I don't either... however I would consider this to be near game breaking (I don't want to speak for everyone) considering how this IP has prided itself on being YOUR story, and essentially by losing your charecter's face you are losing thier identity.    The silence of the developers and moderators is most distressing...

If you can't be bothered to read the whole thread, or even the original post evidently, why bother participating in the discussion at all?   No, the issue has nothing to do with importing a ME1 save, since it's not possible to import a ME1 save into ME3.

The issue is that players who played ME1, who imported into ME2, are having trouble importing thier faces correctly into the full retail version of ME3

Of course I haven't read the whole thread or anything beyond the first and last post, but my ME1 face that I imported to ME2 didn't import into the ME3 demo (at least using the ME2 face code). I had to recreate it.

Apparently it wont do that... i used a code and a trick metioned earlier in this thread and my guys face does'nt even remotely resemble my canon shepard

When you say did'nt import, do you mean it looked different?

But that makes sense, since ME3 has lots of options ME2 didn't have.
But failing at importing a Shepard that was created in 1, ported into 2 andthen into 3, makes NO sense.

Because I couldn't be bothered. Thanks for the clarification though.

Yeah, my beautiful female Shepard looked... not so beautiful. The code worked fine, but the mapping was all f'd up.

Seriously, it takes time to make your character the way you like it. I had to spend time in the demo to recreate the face so I could play the same Shepard I played in ME1 (and especially in ME2).

BTW, I kinda like the lighting better in ME2.

I think it's important that we keep our terminology correct.  The save file is not failing to import, it's the face that is failing to look correctly after import.  At least I hope that's what you mean.

I'm with you on the lighting.  It seemed like a huge step forward compared to 1, which had some pretty bad lighting.

I experienced the same thing with my code.  I'm hoping though that perhaps when importing to the full retail version, without use of a code, will keep things intact.

I'm assuming the codes don'nt work properly because the CC is different in 3

Anyways, the real issue is someone who won the space edition who said that thier import did'nt work.  Does anyone know if this dude posts on here?

I rebuilt my Shepard face in the demo because IF the imported face looked different, I didn't want to waste any time rebuilding the face once the game is released. I'd rather spend the time now and be guaranteed that I can play the game with the face I want when it is released.

I've been cranking on that charecter creator since i downloaded it and i can't even come close to my shepards original face   The options are just too different for me.  Plus, i picked the one nose from mass effect 1 that is'nt present in Mass effect 2's charecter' creator.........

Seriously, I rechecked the ME2 face code at least three times to make sure I nothing was lost in translation. Then I sat there contemplating what A PAIN it's gonna be to recreate the face. I printed a color picture of my ME2 face and spent at least 30 minutes recreating it. Then I played the opening sequence to make sure the facial reactons didn't look screwed up. They did. A bit. So, I went back and tweaked the settings some more.

Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to recreate every facial setting.

So essentially if this bug proves to be fatal, what you are saying is that remake my Shepard is going to be like peeling an orange with chopsticks?  :(

I'm going to have to make compromises huh?  :(

Yeah, it's gonna suck if it's a bug. It's trial and error to recreate the face. It takes ten minutes to recreate something that even remotely resembles your ME2 face. So many variables. Sometimes something that looks good in the face creator looks bad in the game. The main thing you want to do is recreate the facial structure, nose, eyes, and mouth. The coloring and spacing is important too, but there is some flexibility there.

I had my hott Shepard just the way I wanted her and I was very disappointed when the ME2 face code didn't work. I chose to potentially waste a half hour today so I'd be ready to go on the release date with or without the bug.

I agree with both points. The magic of ME for me is almost entirely that I have sort of lived with this character I made from scratch and followed him through his adventures through an epic story. Take my character's face away, and you take my character away. and ill be mourning at his gravestone and railing against his killers, instead of playing the game that should be his epic finale.

;) :P
THAT'S melodrama for you!  But actually it's mostly true

It's true and then some.

Have any of the moderators played the full game?  Chris Priestly maintains a watchfull eye on these forums ussually... maybe he can stop in and possibly shed some light.

Doesn't matter to me, because I want to change my Shepard hair and face anyway.
