Exactly, I love how nonchalant some people are about going through a frankly painstaking process involving codes and save editing, all to make up for something that should be so obviously a non-issue by the company that created the game. I'll reserve critical judgement until I hear solid answers.
You can't import a face created in Mass Effect 1 into 3! Bioware has responded! (See OP)

I wouldn't hold your breath on a mod/dev response. I'm pretty sure if they were going to address this, they would have by now

Also, many geeks (again, such as myself) just love the character creation process - so even if it is a bit of a pain in the rear end to lose the codes or whatever, all that fettling about with sliders and such is still good fun!
That said, it sucks for those who have managed to create their ideal Shep in ME1

Yeah I know, most likely when fellow players get their hands on it we'll know.
The lack of an answer up to now though suggests to me that something is wrong at the very least.

This is a huge issue for many fans as well, so I don't know how this got through testing without notice. It's a big game breaker for me not being able to see my Shepard, especially the final act. I understand I could re-create him, but I tried with the demo and no success because the hair and such is different, so it's annoying.

I want to play ME3 with *my* Shepard. The one I've played ME1 & ME2 many times with. I guess I can see why some people don't care, but it's a huge deal to me.

To be fair everyone's Shepard here did die and come back. It should not be out of character to remake him or her exactly like he/she looked before. Reconstruction and all that.
Remaking is the problem because I and a few other's could not recreate our Shepard because of the updated CC.

Personally I had to recreate my canon ME1 Shep in ME2, simply because she turned horribly crosseyed and with clown makeup. So the idea doesn't bother me as much as it might.

Re-creating my Shepard in the demo was all but impossible, even armed with a face code when I recreated my ME1 Shep in the ME2 CC, so I understand how annoying it is. But still, I can't fathom how Bioware would let something like this slide. That is why I'm still hoping against hope that the import tool in 3 will work.

Except it is out of character because we did that in ME2 already. And my Shepard from ME1 worked.... unless they have some backstory in ME3 on why my Shepard suddenly looks nothing like herself even when I use a face code. Maybe plastic surgery to throw the reapers off her trail or got beaten up by a gang of angry krogan.
In all seriousness, this sucks. Right now I'll pray that it somehow works when I import on Tueday or that they make a patch on Day 1. Sigh.

This is a big deal, not being able to import a Shepard you completed 1 and 2 with is a big accusation, and if true, quite a ludicrous oversight and overall mess.

If this does end up being a major problem on release, I strongly recommend this method to folks. It will hopefully save you a ton of time. I now have "my" Shepard.
Thank you to Janus Prospero, and PLC for linking it!

I want to point out that I was expecting to have to do some reconstructive surgery on my Shepard, based on my experience with the demo CC. In one fell swoop, however, the method detailed by Janus Prospero - and linked to by PLC in the OP - recreated it almost completely correctly. All I had to do was pick the correct hairstyle slider and change her brow color from blonde to brunette.

Cant pick hairstyles from me1 can you? So how can you just "correct hairstyle slider"

If ME1->ME2 Shepards don't import correctly into ME3, I think that was a major overlook on Bioware's part. We shouldn't have to go through all that trouble to import our Shepards.
But that is a good point and I will try Prospero's method.

Hmm my Shep's hairstyle in ME1 was definitely in the ME3 demo; I know because I made him this morning.

No, the hairstyle was not the same as ME1; I selected the default hair for a custom FemShep. When I plugged in this code from JP's method, she had a shaved head.
That being said, the facial structure was recreated pretty much perfectly. That was 90% of what was causing the dissonance between what I'd created in past games and ME3.
