You can't import a face created in Mass Effect 1 into 3! Bioware has responded! (See OP)

Because working for 15 minutes per character across 30 characters adds up to a lot of wasted time, for a feature that was the MAIN SELLING POINT of the entire Shabla series!
Mind your shab'ikase language, mando.
Shh..the aruetisse will find out!

Sure seems like it from the things we know so far.BiO_MaN wrote...
So, wait a minute, let me get this straight... the game can't automatically re-create my Shepard's face if I imported a ME1>ME2 to ME3 save? That doesn't make sense, Bioware can't have done that.

OK. In about 15 minutes I've got the ME2 face code for my sheppard. If you have imported directly from ME1 and don't have any, simply start a new game importing from ME1 but use the option to change his/ her face. There you will find the code at the lower zone of the screen.
Then take the code and use it in ME3 demo to see if it looks good. That's all. Nothing to worry about. This is the most histerical forum that I've ever seen :-P
Sorry, but you're wrong. Importing a ME1 character into ME2 doesn't give you a face code. You only get a facecode if you create a character from scratch in ME2.
The hoops you have to jump through in roder to extract your facecode from an ME1 Shep is much more involved. It took me over an hour.
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer... no, it's not that difficult. You can take an option to edit the face and you see your ME1 face in the editor ready to be changed (if you want it) and the face code below. You don't have to rebuid it at all.
Try it for yourself. I've done it right now.
"Accept imported face" - when you accept imported you just carry it without any option to change anything about it. Which we should be able to do in ME3. Accoding to this thread, we're not.
"Default Shepard"
"Customize Shepard" - which we can create one new custom from scratch.
Take Customize Shepard option: it appears your ME1 face ready to be edited. I will try it again only to be sure
That doesn't work for me.
Xbox player here. When I choose to customize my face, it resets EVERYTHING and turns my shep into the first preset for editing.
Sorry mate but your method doesn't work, at least not for me.

We were told from the beginning of the trilogy we would be able to take OUR character through the entire trilogy. Now we're learning that isn't true. Really, this problem us absolutely inexcusable.

this is just a face/head skin texture, it should be possible to just move the whole properly over to ME3 without a problem, I recently experimented with Skyrim body and face mods, and it isn't as hard as one thinks at first, it should really be possible to have Bioware get the transfer done right.
Before I freak out, I am going to wait and see if the ME3 version of gibbed can accept facemorphs from the ME2 version of gibbed.
I really hope so.

You're not alone dude. I've been trying to stay optimistic for quite some time now, but BW really isn't making that easy.Nashiktal wrote...
Ok if this is true this may be the straw that break my back here.... I've been patient. I have been unhappy about quite a few things coming into ME3, but it has always been offset by something.
Patience, lack of evidence, a new feature that balance's this....
But not being able to import our custom shep's appearance? If they had told us ahead of time I would have been mad, but that is something I can understand once explained and given time to process.
But not bothering to tell us? That would have been a great surprise at release. The character I carefully spent time on creating, a character I can't recreate despite attempts to do so... My first shep will not be able to come into ME3?
I feel I am being dramatic here but I suddenly feel very tired and very jaded.

default face ftw, i've always used the default male face for 30 some chars, my females are a little changed (make-up etc to look hot,but default female looks good, so i'll turn them all into her)
o.O
Well, good for you, as for me, I always despised how the default male and female Shepards looked like (the new FemShep is a different matter that one looks great), ofc it is true majority of custom ones shown are terrible too, or look like some actor. I played around with the designs until I got something realistic, even through some say funny, I don't wan't to lose the only face I was able to go with since ME1.
here it is btw

OK, I have to apologize. I tried again and you're right. I've done it too fast and the random face from ME 2was incredible similar to my sheppard, but isn't the same. Sorry, my mistake

I agree, this feature to me goes right to the core of what Mass Effect is/was. It's almost unbelievable to me that an ME1 face won't import - that after all was the whole selling point of the series. But for the devs to know this and not say anything, to ignore the thread and the tweets is dishonesty at the level of politicians and defence lawyers.
Definitely the straw that breaks the camel's back for me

If this is true ME3 will never be what it should and never a 10/10 for me. It's BS. It already stands lower than ME2.

Well, a lot of my Shepards have no reason to be on Earth at the start of the game and wouldn't react like the auto-dialogue forces them to do, so it seems only appropriate they don't look like the characters I once played anymore as well...
