I, on the other hand, used the workaround method by obtaining codes from the save files. Of the four Sheps I'd imported from ME1 to ME2, none of the codes gave me anything like they should have. So I'm desperately hoping ME3 WILL import them all without any trouble.

Seems as though we will be able to (THANK THE MAKER!!).  I was the one who asked HalcyonJedi on gamefaqs about this; I feel special. :P

Any chance you could clarify that he in fact was playing a custom ME1 Shep and not a default and that he understands we are asking about the face and not the choices?

Thanks

Damnit...and here I thought we were in the clear lol.  Another GameFAQS user just asked the question you are wondering about but Halcyon hasnt responded yet.  I'll post here as soon as we get an answer.

I think that keeping an unaltered face from 1 to 2 is something they didn't think a lot of people were going to do.

So given that they likely didn't think that it would matter if unaltered faces did not import correctly because such a small amount of people would do it.

Hopefully I am wrong and this is just an oversight but silence can speak volumes.

Your original post was much appreciated and thanks for following up - here's to hoping everything will be fine.  The Bioware silence is not encouraging though.

But... keeping your character throughout the whole trilogy was the point of the games. And since you couldn't simply tweak your import character in ME2 I'd say there are many players with straight ME->ME2->ME3 import histories. This has to be an oversight -which in itself is neither understandable nor tolerable- because anything else would mean Bioware is completely out of touch with their own games and their fans, and I just don't want to believe that.

We need some official reaction to this problem. Here in this thread, and ASAP. Posted Image

I don't think we can expect a response at the weekend.

Though given that pre-orders may start arriving on Monday to folk in the US, they are going to find the forum fills up with complaints very quickly.

@infinitecuts.

Thanks for the post, your Sheps look great in both pictures,

but honestly, they don't look like the same guy to me.

joriandrake wrote...

@InfiniteCuts Your original Shep had a nice big nose, the new one doesn't, that is quite a big difference in the end

edit: no pun intended, and yes I agree with david, in other aspects it is also just resembling the original

Yes, I tweaked the nose and hoped no one would notice lol.  I believe nose shape is one of the things you have to set yourself (too complex to determine using gibbed), but I know exactly which nose I originally had.  The two ME2 pics I posted are honestly identical aside from the eyes and nose, even though I know they look slightly different.  In any case, it's close enough for me and I think I'm a pretty picky person. *shrugs*

Bad news.  HalcyonJedi responded to the question about his Shep import from ME1.  Here is his answer:

HalcyonJedi: I didn't change the physical appearance of my Shepard in ME1 or ME2, and didn't do it for ME3 either.

firfeck: But are you playing as a Custom Shep or the Default shepard (ie. the one that is on the box art)?

HalcyonJedi: Default Shepard - I never changed it

He used the default Shep from ME1 through to ME3 and it worked fine (obviously).  There you have it, still no confirmation on whether custom faces will import properly.

This whole thing is silly. Games have bugs. I'm sure they'll patch it if it is a real bug. So long as all of the rest of my stuff carries over I have zero problem remaking my Shepard's face. In fact I'll probably have to anyway because my sheps hairstyle looks terrible in ME3.

That being said -- if it's a ME1 to ME3 import issue for the PS then someone is pulling your leg. There was no ME1 for the play station. If it's a across the board issue -- is it a ME1 to ME2 to ME3 issue? If it's only occurring if you import straight from ME1 then I'm not worried. They probably just didn't factor in that people might have actually skipped the middle game.

You have to remember that ME didn't have a face code -- that was added in 2 and carried over into 3. So if it's an import from ME1 to ME3 only issue, it's probably due to the fact that there's no facial code in ME1.

Breath guys, it's two days ;p It'll be OKAY.

Say it with me now:

It will be Okay. It's a bug and games have bugs. Especially new games. It happens. They'll fix it.

Heidenreich you're misunderstanding a little.

The issue is happening if you created a Shepard in ME1. Then imported that Shepard into ME2 and accepted the imported face. If you do that, you don't get a face-code.

Now apparently when trying to import that Shepard's face into ME3 it wont work correctly because of the lack of a face-code.

I'm no computer programmer, but how hard would it for bioware to just use use the code that is embedded in the game files instead of the "face code" system in-game? It's probably what they had to do for ME1 imports anyway.

*takes a deep breath*.. I'll try and keep this nice and clean.

Good for you that you don't care about serious bugs like this one. I wish I felt the same way. Unfortunately, I expect a game like this to live up to what the devs have been promising us ever since ME1. Bioware has repeatedly been telling us, that the Mass Effect trilogy is OUR story, and that we would be able to take OUR Shepard with us through all three chapters. Now, if this whole thing is true, they lied to us. And I don't like that.

I honestly don't see why you would bother telling people that there's no PS3 version of ME1. This is the official Mass Effect board. It's common knowledge. And if you had actually read the OP, you'd know that isn't the issue..

And you're saying that ME3 can't import these Sheps because of the missing face codes? Then how come my Shep imported perfectly into ME2? Again, read the OP before posting.

Sure, the Day-1 patch may fix this. The only sources we have for that though, is two german fan sites, and Bioware STILL hasn't said anything! So at this point, no everything will not be okay. All we know is that the issue is there.

Sorry if this came off as overly harsh, but some of you people really needs to take a look at the OP, before telling people that everything is okay.

I'd remove "A new hope" from the thread topic, at this point the answer is pretty clearly:

"No you can't import an ME1 face"

I'm quite appalled by the dev's attempts to mislead with their tweet answers only to ignore when the questions are made unavoidably specific. They knew this and didn't tell us and when we found out and asked they all but flat out lied to us. I feel just like I do when I've caught someone trying to rip me off.

I'm speechless..........

According to Game Informer, the problem is with Xbox 360 users only. The issue is the Cloud. ME3 isn't compatible with the Cloud and the simple fix is that you need to have your ME2 saves on your Hard Drive. Other gaming news sites have said the same thing.
