Another good idea would be to make a patch for ME2 that displays your facecode
Problem solved for us who cant retrieve ME2 facecodes

1. It's not specualtion. We have confirmed reports from multiple people who are playing the game.
2. People who modded the game for a work around have discussed how the game does not use facecodes, again we have that on first hand accounts by people working on modding their games. If you have edited your facecode via the solutions listed on the OP then you'll see that facecodes having nothing to do with it.

ETA: Just realized I'm talking to you across two threads heh. You're welcome for the info. I'm pretty bummed too. I've got 10 saves from ME1 :-/

Haha yeah, sorry about that. I'm completely out of my realm when it comes to programming so I appreciate you trying to explain.

Spent today attempting to rebuild my canon Sheps to get them facecodes. They turned out mostly perfect, although my ManShep looks horrible in the demo :x...

Yeah, well, if I can't import my various Shepards I guess I just won't play the game until I can. I'm almost past caring by now...

Apparently not. In just a few hours this thread will be a week old. With constant bumping, conversation and a ridiculous amount of messages/tweets sent to devs and other BioWare employees with absolutely no response.

It's really disheartening.

What the hell is going on? How on earth could they screw that up?

I've been playing custom Sheps since ME1. I have three of them; two males, and one female. I imported all three of them into ME2 without any problems. I didn't use that long code they give you, because they don't look right. So am I not able to import my Sheps from ME2 that I imported from ME1 into ME3? Is that what's going on?

If that's what's going on, that is completely unacceptable. There will be tons of backlash for that.

Just faces won't be imported. Everything like your choices will still be imported.

That doesn't help me out at all.

I have had a very distinct set of Shepards since day one and if I can't carry them over then the series is entirely ruined for me. The appearance of my Shepard(s) is just as important as my choices.

They'll be happy to explain once your money has been safely deposited into their bank account.

I completely, 100% agree. I said "just" because I didn't want you to possibly think it was choices as well.

I mean I guess I could go back through ME1 and ME2 as rhe *cringe* default Shepard, and make the same choices, but god damn it. I JUST did that this week with my tried and true Shepard. How is this possible/acceptable?

Or you could try to remake your canon Shepards' appearances in the ME3 CC. That might work for you

There isn't anything Bioware can say that will explain this. I wouldn't be surprised if they never say anything.

That defeats one of the core concepts of the ME franchise. But hey, doesn't really matter. I mean the choices we made in ME1 and ME2 don't matter in ME3 anyway.

I agree. It's frustrating and we should not have to do it.

I can not remake any of my Shepard's. It is seriously impossible. I don't know why. If I could break down the save file and write down every little detail I could try, but I have tried again and again to remake them and they never turn out right. I think I found some weird, otherwise impossible combination that cannot be replicated.

So, I'm basically getting screwed over by a terrible design oversight, because they wanted to appease new players who think it's okay to join a trilogy at the final game.

Sigh, and here I was hoping to play through ME3 in a single sitting on day 1. However after hearing about this issue on top of all the others, I most likely will NOT play this game, but instead get it, and then wait half a year or however long it takes for them to fix the damn game.

I don't care if it says "Mass effect" on the box, If I can't play as my Shepard and continue his story, what is the point of playing the game at all?

Oh, and regarding "making the game accessible to new players": Who the heck do you think make up the majority of people who buy this game Bioware?! If I see that a game is coming out that is the finale to a big triology, even as a newcomer I don't darned plan on starting from the ending, I check out the earlier games and work up from there! Why are you so desperate to get in new players that you end up screwing over your core players with something that should have been one of the very first things you looked into? At least I would assume that when you began programming ME3 the first question would have been "how do we make sure ME2 saves transfer over correctly?"

Same thing happens to me. :S My Shepard must be some kind of freak.

More $$$$$$$ for them I guess. Sigh.

Now I'm seeing that it's just SOME Shepards that cannot be imported, but how does that make sense?

It's the same with most companies.

They chase the new customer while relying on the loyalty of their old customers.

How many times have we seen or heard the line "new customers only."

If you remade your Shepard in the second game the face seemingly imports without trouble.

The problem comes to those who accepted the imported face in Mass Effect 2.

Take this with a grain of salt:

https://twitter.com/...499713510608896

@masseffect Before I can #TakeEarthBack , will I have to recreate my ME1 Shepard's face?

@commanderorgia If you are importing a save over you will be able to import the appearance over.

It isn't TOO difficult to remake your ME1 shep in the ME2 CC, it just takes a lot of time and careful looking, preferably on a good TV.

It's just a step I wish I didn't have to go through :l
