What a pathetic developer Bioware is. 55 pages of posts from longtime fans of the series, and not a single response from them. This a a ridiculous oversight. Their main marketing ploy for this series is the fact that decisions from previous games carry over, and yet those of us who have played since 2007 can't even use our original characters. Yes, some of the decisions carry over, but replicating our original Shepard is now apparently impossible. Given that this was possible in ME2, the only explanation is complete and utter laziness on Bioware's fault.

Shame on them. Your fans are eagerly awaiting an explanation. Until then, there's no point in supporting a company which doesn't give a **** about their fanbase. Talk about a downward spiral: Dragon Age 2 was a complete disaster, and now Mass Effect fans are given the shaft. What a disgrace.

Yeah its pretty ****ty but there are workarrounds.  I was super bummed about it until i found that someone had painstakingly figured out the correct import code formulas (link in my sig)  I'm mad but I want to help people first, and condemn whoever dropped the ball on this second.

THIS WILL GET YOU THE RIGHT FACE  just 3 simple quick steps, plus a 4th if you REALLY want to make sure you get the right nose.

This will let you get your import. The only thing that doesnt import is the nose shape (the rest of the nose imports fine) and easy to set **** like colors, complexion, and hair style.

If you want to tweak your code to be PERFECT just import your me1 shep, paste the code you got from the site into the custom appearance, tweak it until it matches perfectly (the eye and blush colors won't match exactly) just toggle between IMPORT APPEARANCE and CUSTOM APPEARANCE with the code you got. After you've got it matching perfectly you can just copy THAT code and put it into me3. Its possible its just that bioware needs to actually adjust the formula to do it right. just look at THIS POST for proof that IT CAN BE DONE. :)

This is all complete and utter gibberish to me.  We should not have to jump through these hoops to keep our original Shepards... what a joke.

Well you can't "recreate" the face. That's why people are pissed. . .because ME3 CC system is different than ME1 or 2 Posted Image.

But yeah people could be proactive and make new Sheps. . .The game isn't going to be changed in time for release anyway.

This is not 100% accurate. But this is the only solution we have right now.

I really want to see what a genuine import of an ME2 file that has an original ME1 face looks like in ME3. Can someone point me to a video?

Well considering I only have one Xbox 360 femshep from ME1 to worry about (most of my Sheps are on the PS3) I can understand the anger here. However, an easy guess could be that Bioware has already solved this issue and we are just looking like idiots for complaining about it. Thing is like most of the people who are *****ng or complaining about ME3 for whatever the reason need to actually wait till the game comes out at least before running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I said this before Bioware knows of this issue since I have seen a mod/admin direct people to this thread specifically.

You do not deserve to play ME3.

Ever think maybe they're a bit preoccupied with other things this close to launch instead of reading every single post on here? I'm not defending BioWare here, I too think it's crazy stupid we can't import our custom Shepards. With that said, I don't know everything and I'm only getting my side of the story. Even better, I'll be able to find out for myself if this is indeed true because it comes out in ONE DAY.

You don't know everything that's going on with BioWare and because you only see your side of this, you assume they're just sitting on their asses being lazy. You are a child and you don't deserve to be in community with your immaturity. That goes for everyone else throwing around accusations without any information on the other perspective.

ALSO; Aside from the face import thing, BioWare is not a pathetic developer. They've created an amazing universe and accomplished something with this trilogy no developer ever has, so why don't you shut the **** up about the face importing for a second and just appreciate what they've given you.

They know about this and that's why they twittered saying "Some ME2 saves will not be able to import the face-file of your Shepherd."

So, I have a question. Although I'm not 100% sure what will happen when I try to import my Shepard, I figure it can't hurt to be prepared. So, I loaded up by ME2 save (on the 360) and went to the squad screen so I could get a nice look at Shep's face. I also booted up my PC copy of ME2 and started a new character to try and recreate my Shep and get a code. The idea is then to copy that code into my 360 copy of ME3 to make my Shep look like he always has.

But, will I be able to put this code into ME3? I've always imported from ME1 when playing ME2, so I didn't know about face codes until coming to this site and seeing people mention them. So, is what I'm planning possible, or will I have to try to recreate him again? Sorry for the newb question.

i used a code someone posted
You add a few tweaks to make it 'yours' and if mine fails i am indeed using it.

try this in the demo and you can start with a decent base

143 PCM G11 F31 W11 14L MWN 411 TE6 1CH BG5 752

IF mine fails i'll use that code to create mine again

That's what I did in the demo. I had my ME2 code, typed it in to see how it looked, tweaked it, and ended up with something entirely new. It was actually fun to do.

Eh I'll be pretty disappointed if I have to do that. For my own immersion in my own canon, I kept faces and classes the same from 1 to 2. Heck I've never started a playthrough with 2...I have to play through 1 first.

But I would still like to see a video actually illustrating the problem before I rage.

I'm the same way--I had to go back and save Kirahe and point my gun in Conrad's face, because I wanted to keep the continuity of my experience intact.

Immersion is a funny thing; it can't really be anticipated. Personally, I find that even the most immersive games have problems that break their illusions. But you'll get used to it.

Maybe BW will release a patch maybe they won't, but when the game comes out I'm sure people will get used to its little flaws and quirks.  I hope at least--either way I understand why people are mad they have to change their sheps, but it's not unimmersive in my opinion, because this will be a long game and you'll get used to your new look. I hope.

If the CC is that different, then it wouldn't import properly anyway and you would have to tinker with it to get as close as possible.

I am probably overreacting, you're right.  I've had a long day.  At the same time, I don't think it's childish to expect a bit more from Bioware in this respect.  I do appreciate the universe they've created for us, and I still consider myself a fan of the Mass Effect series.  That said, after the incredibly disappointing DA2 and SWTOR, please forgive me if I come off as rather harsh.  I genuinely expected more from them, and this is just another instance where they seem to be ignoring their fanbase.  It's rather shocking to realize nearly 5 years later that we can't actually import our original characters.  This was a possibility in ME2, and it's not unrealistic to expect the same in ME3.  At the end of the day, I am appreciative, but I'm tired of the excuses at this point, and I feel as though the PS3 port has detracted from our overall experience.  I will not "shut the **** up", nor will the countless other fans in this huge topic, because the complaint IS indeed legitimate.

Very disappointing if true, to say the least. But hardly surprising after things like the DLC one-piece armours that we didn't find out about until the game hit, and more recently with TOR where we were promised a proper face creation system akin to Dragon Age: Origins all the way through and then the game released with just a few preset faces and a small handful of hairstyles and facial hair.

The fact that nobody from the ME3 team has commented on this at all speaks volumes in and of itself. It pretty much confirms it as true, but that they don't want to say from fear of pre-order cancellations from a whole bunch of people with multiple Shepards going all the way back to ME1 that are now largely meaningless. Considering how many Shepards I have in ME1, how much time I put into those Shepards through both ME3's predecessors and how many times I wrestled with the awkward face creator in the original game multiple (sometimes literally dozens) times just to get these faces juuuuust right, the amount of pure fail and poor customer service with regards to this aspect is beyond words.

Just to clarify, you're referring to the 360 version, yes?  I would have just tried it myself, but I deleted the demo off of my 360 to save space.

meh, this doesn't bother me at all. but if decisions and actions made from me1 to me2 to me3 have problems importing then i'll be pissed.

still, problems like this shouldn't happen. the game had better be polished and not like that crap named dragon age 2 we got last year.

on the bright side, the game comes out in less than 24 hours! hooray!

I just spent a good hour w/ the "work around" posted, and... well, it sort of works? A little bit? I REALLY like my ME1 Shepard, as I made him look like Clint Eastwood and I feel that it came out extremely well. So I tried the "work around" in ME2 and, well... he comes out looking quite asian and not quite "right."

Really hope that this is fixed later. I can't believe that Bioware would just figure nobody would care and/or deem this an acceptable bug that they won't bother fixing... *fingers crossed*
