You can't import a face created in Mass Effect 1 into 3! Bioware has responded! (See OP)

Yes it matters that we bring in our Shepard from ME1 and 2 because that's the character I've been playing with and I spent a LONG time getting a face I was happy with.
What I'm actually more worried about is if we can't adjust our imported character, seeing that they've added new hairstyles etc. since the last game so our ME3 importer may churn out a different looking person because of the new codes for the features.
I would be royally pissed if what I import looks different than what I played with in 1 and 2.
Did Bioware think about that before adding new hairstyles, brows, facial features etc to the 3rd game? I hope so.

I'm assuming two things:littlezack wrote...
Um...did I miss something? Why is he trying to import his ME1 face into ME3?
1) He's importing his ME1 file, meaning he's played the first and second game, but wants to show that he's played the first game.
OR
2) He's actually importing his ME1 file, meaning he's skipped the second game, but he's mentioned ME2 characters in his plathrough which could mean A) By default, ME2 characters are there anyway,

Honestly if imports from me1-me3 is glitched then EVERY SINGLE ONE of my sheps, 12+ are completeley broken, thanks for the info op.
Why didnt you warn us bioware to skip ME1 ?
Or the guy could be completely bull****ting. We don't have enough information. And we won't until the 6th...
The guy went to the space-thingy with his wife. They got a copy each. One for the 360 and one for PS3. He also takes pictures of the box with the game (No pictures of the game, because of some NDA agreement). He said that he had some troubles importing his Shepard in his first playthrough. After completing the game once, he started over, and once again, he couldn't import his Shepard.
Unless he has A LOT of time on his hands (he's been answering spoiler free questions for HOURS the last few days), there is no way this guy hasn't got the game.
Where has he been answering spoiler-free questions? Any chance you could link it or PM me? How did I miss this? Haha. I'm so excited for the game but it seems like everywhere I look there are spoilers around here. Even in general discussion forum about the endings until they locked it down.

That question's not specific enough, it doesn't say "ME1 face" anywhere in it. If they haven't really tested ME1 faces but only ME2 ones, they won't know about the problem. The PLC wrote...
The official Mass Effect twitter just answered "Yes!" to the following question: "So it is possible to do import your Shepard into 3, without having to 'rebuild' your Shepard? Silly question, I know."
I guess that pretty much confirms that the guy with the early copy was experiencing some kind of glitch, right?

Maybe someone else could ask them in a more specific manner then. i doubt they'll answer any more question from me, regarding this subjectKiddDaBeauty wrote...

I'm still kind of stuck on how he tried to import from ME1 to ME3. Obviously that won't work.
Why is this so difficult? In ME2, you import your Shep and keep the face from ME1. Then you import the ME2 save with that Shep into ME3. Voila: ME1 face data in ME3.

I'm talking about skipping ME2 altogether. As in, directly trying to load ME1 data onto ME3 without playing ME2 at all. Which kind of sounds more like what he said.

Basically, face codes only apply to ME2 and ME3. There was a bug in ME2 where if you press on Custom and then back out to your raw ME1 import, it assigned a default face code. This face code had nothing to do with any variables of the raw ME1 import's features though.
I guess that could be what's causing the problem. So if your ME1 import - which you didn't create a new face over - has a face code, you may be ****ed in that department. I figured Bioware would've fixed that. Guess not. Gonna affect a lot of people though, if that is the case.

I know - that's what it sounds like he tried to do, is all.
Anyway, I doubt it's a problem, especially if it works on PS3 no problem. More than likely he screwed something up.

And my point was that that isn't what he's doing. He's talking about ME1 face data that's been transferred from 1 to 2 to 3, because you can't import directly from ME1.

We need a thread, or perhaps some kind of database here on Bioware Social Network, with face codes and pictures of player-created characters in Mass Effect 3. Something like the Service Records for Halo:Reach on Bungie.net, which tracks the player's in-game appearence and stats. Dragon Age has something like that too, doesn't it?

Which is A. Kind of obvious anyway so why would he try it in the first place. and B. If you played ME1 and went to the space edition to get ME3 its a high probability you played 2.
So hes either lying, which doesnt seem feasible considering hes answering questions and has pictures of his copy, or it is indeed true that the import doesnt work.
Anyone got confirmation yet that a save does work from me1 specifically imported from 2?

I wouldn't bother with imported faces anyway. My character got messed up importing from ME1 to ME2 because of the changes they made to the face editor. Better to just start over from scratch. Or you try using someone else's face code. Some people have managed to creat some very impressive-looking characters, while the rest of us stumble over the face editor and hope for the best.

classic PS3, glitchy, probably a horrific memory leak. Other question, who imports a ME1 save into ME3, that doesn't make sense at all.
1. This is about the 360 version... The PS3 import apparently worked fine.
2. You can't, not without ME2.
