But we WILL be able to manually remake our Shepard, right, with the workaround that gets you the face code to the point you just need to change eye color and hair stuff ,rgiht?

ME1 Shepard's don't have a face code. You'd have to build a brand new Shepard in the demo or in ME2 itself, but even then I did an experiment last night with that and ME2 face codes don't translate with complete exactitude either.

Well, there was stuff on how to extract stuff early on (might still be in OP). It wouldn't transfer the stuff related to hair, eye color and other things like complexion, but it got the basic head shape and such ready. So what would usually take a frustrating hour or so would instead just be 15 minutes tops...

I think it is unfortunate that The ME team has again disregarded those that played Mass Effect...Essentially what they are saying is it is a great place to start the series but a terrible place to conclude the series if you played the first two...sad really...

I just want BioWare to acknowledge this. Thats all I'm asking for.

Also, my main femshep's hair isn't even IN Mass Effect 3's demo. What am I supposed to do?

It's such an afront to the basic premise of the series...

I'm trying to find a good analogy, but this is sort of unprecedented.

You ordered a three course meal at a resturant (starter, main, desert). You get your desert and it comes out without any custard on it and when you ask the chef for some he just shrugs and walks away. It still tastes like apple pie, it's still nice apple pie, but something still feels missing without it.

Yeah I suck at analogies.

..........Well, thanks. Now I want apple pie. :-(

You're an graphic design major. You have to take 3 classes consecutively and they all deal with the same programs, but one of them is lets say 3ds Max. The first two classes you use 3ds max for modeling, but for some reason by the 3rd semester course you have to take, they lose the liscence for the program and you have to use Lightwave 3d instead. The programs are extremely similar and still accomplish the same thing, but theres just some things you're not used to in lightwave 3d.

Here is something interesting to watch for today though:

Does the IGN review mention this?

On the one hand, if they say they didn't know than it looks like an incomplete review.
If they do know and don't report it than the review is definitely not unbiased.
There will be tremendous pressure from EA not to mention this.

I'm interested to see who actually holds the power when these things collide.

What will they do?

They have the PS3 version, and most likley will blame it on Bioware saying that Bioware told them that all versions were the same...so that they didn't look that extensively at the PC and 360 version. Basically crappy journalism.

Then they'll write an article detailing about all the misteps that Bioware has done since DAII.

Keep in mind IGN probably cut Bioware a nice check for that Allers plug. <_<

I guess the fact that everything you've done in the first two games carries over is nothing.

I don't know. I'm not a crazy person, so I can fully believe that Chobot actually auditioned for the role and got it. I mean...SHE has considerably stepped back from the lime light on IGN, which leads me to believe that she has been pursuing greener pastures.

its like watching a trilogy and they recast the main actor in the third film and tell you not to worry it is still the same character...

Apparently we're supposed to RP that we completely decided to change our hairstyle after the trial or something.

I really don't know what the logic of this is any more.

I guess if theres a situation at the end game where my Shepard dies due to my decisions I suppose it won't matter so much since its not my Shepard, just a clone.

I don't think I'll play until its fixed. Its awful, but I tried playing the demo with a shepard I tried to make look similar. It just isn't the same. Probably my OCD kicking in but I have two Shepards and hearing the same voice come out of the different face is just...ugh

Point is that it's BioWare taking one step backwards. I don't know how they COULDN'T see this backlash coming. The decent thing to do would say "Sorry guys, we dun goof'ed and your faces won't transfer over, sorry" in order to soften the blow for launch instead of waiting for the money to pile in.

if the charcter you  played looks nothing like the first two games then yeah sort of...you know, it is kind of immersion breaking...and frankly unacceptable since they could do it from Mass Effect to Mass Effect 2...

There IS a long, complicated process that involves the gibbed save editor and a LOT of math that can beat a facecode out of an ME1 import, but it is an absolutely needless step that shouldn't be in the game

Out of curiousity, what's the process?  Do you have a link to a step by step of how to do this?

Honestly this is such a huge "bug" they could at least have acknowledged it by now. God this sucks.

Frankly if it is just the hairstyle that is not a deal breaker as people do change their hair in real life all the time but people in the military generally do not get reconstructive surgery while waiitng to be court marshalled...

Which is great. It's just less-great now that our faces from ME1 won't carry over.

This was a promised feature since the first/second Mass Effect game. Try to understand that it is a giant bummer for us fans who have been looking forward to ME3 playing as our custom Shepards, and not everyone is content with just playing the game/not knowing if this issue will be addressed or not.

It's not like you can't make the character look like the one you made in previous games.

That isn't some great achievement, it's the very basics of the ME trilogy. The same goes for the appearance. This not working isn't a meaningless oversight, it's a dealbreaker, simple as that.

You strike me as the kind of person that puts on a helmet and doesn't much care how your character looks. So, lets just agree that you don't find this as important as other people and call it a day.

The best possible fix is to rebuild your original Shepard in ME2, and then grab the facecode to plug into ME3.

That's what I'm doing. It is a pain...and I can never get the jaw line right, and I've noticed things like my imported Shepard has a brighter eyes, but meh.
