You can't import a face created in Mass Effect 1 into 3! Bioware has responded! (See OP)

Good thing I attempted to recreated my Shep and got the face codes few months ago. o_O (I did this so I could play my Shep on my PS3 version ... but seeing that there's issues with the import in ME3... oh boy.)

Hope this gets fixed.

Same engine, differing versions. Mass Effect is Unreal Tech 2, ME2/ME3 are Unreal Tech 3.

So the fact that they got it to work from ME1 to ME2 means that it should work going into ME3 too...but it doesn't, cause....pancakes?

Who knows, someone must have noticed this before the RC was certified.

I thought all the games were Unreal 3.

What people have to realize...and i know its hard...but they stated you would be able to use your character through the trilogy...BEFORE EA bought them. Things change.

We just got too attached to shephard and our squadmates.

probably when 50 other threads pop up from people discovering they cannot import, will force Bioware to redirect people to this thread..which in turn acknowledges this thread...maybe this is why Chris Priestly suggested we NOT play through with an import save first...

I doubt there will be a patch. We weren't enough of a priority for them to make sure importing worked during development. We're definitely not enough of a priority for them to spend extra dev time and money on a patch.

Of course it matters. I don't plan on recreating my Shep every play through. I only hope to do it once, if Bioware fixes the issue.

They could spend development time to fix this problem
or
They could make more DLC

I don't think this is gonna go your way guys, but good luck.

I wouldn't be surprised. But if they came out and said "we're having problems with the face generator in ME3 but we are working on it" then that would be nice, but they are ignoring it and people that don't know about this problem are going to be in for a shock when their Shep doesn't look and act for that matter, they way they have being the past 2 games.

:/

To be fair, the original was Unreal Tech 2.5, not 2. But yeah it wasn't Tech 3.

He created a thread about it...How good an idea it would be to play ME3 without an import first so that later we can appreciate the import features...

I tried reporting this bug, but unfortunatly, all I get is a page saying youve reached a dead end, like I've been getting for days on help.ea.com
Unfortunatly, very appropriate in this situation.

Yeah but why would we NOT play through with an import save. Thats why WE SAVED the saves after all.

That kind of logic just boggles the mind. Oh yeah those saves we've had you hanging onto for five years...don't use those FIRST use them after you've already beaten the game on a generic pregenerated Sheploo!

From EA help article on face importation:

Will I be able to make changes to my Shepherd when I import?
You will be given the option to alter the appearance of Shepherd, and you will be able to change class (i.e. Soldier to Adept) as well.
NOTE: Some ME2 saves will not be able to import the face-file of your Shepherd. You will need to re-create the appearance when importing the file.

Link: help.ea.com/article/will-i-be-able-to-import-a-save-file-from-steam-into-mass-effect-3

Note: And yes...They spelled "Shepard" incorrectly.

You make a good point, ratzerman. Doubt they would overlook something like this.

those were his exact words - the thread has got to be still floating around somewhere - it is only a few weeks old, I believe...

This is definitly a huge deal breaker and need's to be patched, if it does get patched I do feel sorry for those though who do not have online access.

Well seems Chris Priestly is up and about as he just shut down the James Vega thread.

Can we get a lockdown here? Perhaps with a brief explanation that powders our bottoms and gives us our binky?

A lockdown...Yeah that will definitely solve the problem <_<

Well long as it has an answer attached to it, I'm fine with that.

I don't think Chris is coming in.

he ignored my tweet about this thread,
and he ignored my pm.

Yeah.

Maybe this is the real reason why he suggested players not to import their Shepards for the first playthrough <_<

I'm sorry I don't mean to directly insult Mr. Priestly here but.....thats idiocy in its highest form. This isn't Gears of War for the love of pete. Who I am and what I've done over the last two games is why I'm playing the third game.

There is no way in hell I would play a pregenerated Sheploo and not see the affects of my plot decisions since ME come into play as designed from my decisions.

This is, of course, assuming that the decisions imported from the save even work, or even matter, hell maybe this is Gears of War now.
