Same engine, differing versions. Mass Effect is Unreal Tech 2, ME2/ME3 are Unreal Tech 3.

So the fact that they got it to work from ME1 to ME2 means that it should work going into ME3 too...but it doesn't, cause....pancakes?

Who knows, someone must have noticed this before the RC was certified.

I thought all the games were Unreal 3.

To be fair, the original was Unreal Tech 2.5, not 2. But yeah it wasn't Tech 3.

All three games are running on the Unreal Engine 3. What makes you think the original ran on Unreal Engine 2.

Cause the console was straight up Tech 2.5 in Mass Effect, thats why I think it was 2.5, also the lighting and shader systems were less advanced than ME2's, still good, cause Unreal Tech has always been good, but Tech 3 was far more advanced than 2.5 and the visual differences are there.

I could be wrong of course, I'm just going on visible tech differences here.

Irritant no.27 : I just entered my painstakingly re-created face code for ME1 into the ME3 demo and got an uglyShep bearing no resemblance to the previous character. Is this something to do with the demo or what?

There are things missing and cut from the demo such as hair color and eye color along with some other bits here and there. The demo is not exactly the best thing to test with. I however noticed that this was mainly an issue for Femsheps more so than MaleSheps.

Oh, thanks. Some reassurance at least.

Yeah like one of my red hair sheps ended up turning into a dirty blonde in the ME3 demo.

This is incorrect its been confirmed by people that have unlocked the game that the CC is exactly the same as the demo.

I'm facing the same problem while importing ME2 character to ME3. ME3 can not recognize the ME2 character. EA and Bioware please release some patch to fix this.

That is not a 100% true. And we don't know that for sure. Did they go over everything? You can say CC is exactly same from the looks but I don't think they actually went through every single slider option. Wait till release before saying I am wrong.

Are we going to have to start being profane just to get bioware's attention? This is ridiculous.

I dunno about you, but I refuse to be any sort of gas.

I'd like a confirmation one way or the other soon so that I have the option of cancelling my pre-order. It's not so much being unable to import the face that bothers me, its how they have handled it, combined with how they handled the mp anouncement. I don't want to give £70 to a company that treats its fans with such disdain.

Looks pretty much exactly like in the demo. I had to do the same eye brow colour tweak as in demo, no new hair styles or anything like that either.

It is definitely the Unreal Engine 3, Bioware have just done an excellent job of tweaking it to improve the visuals with each game.

Similar to how Epic themselves tweaked it between Gears of War 1 to 3.

Visuals can be an indicator but when you consider that 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand and Rise of the Argonauts also run on the Unreal Engine 3, there can be huge difference between what developers can get out of it.

Yeah. DDE, Origin version. It's already released in Korea (which means everyone can actually play it...).

Also, the thing about high resolution textures would be included in ME3, well it's not true. Characters have same textures.

I sorta figured on that. The characters looked a bit plastiqued in the demo but I figured it was just low res textures, oh well thank god for modders....oh wait nm ME doesn't have any of those.

Took me over an hour to recreate my Shep in ME2. Stupid xbox gives me the "which storage device do you want to save your Shep on?" screen every single time I go back to the Import/Default/Custom screen. Ended up looking kinda bad in ME3 any way, but I fiddled a bit with it and now I've got her in ME3, only with a new hair style (the old one looked like crap on her in ME3).

Odd things I noticed:
- Her light green eyes did not exist in ME2
- Her dark red hair did not exist in ME3 (I believe the number was 6 in the face code, ME3 only has 5 and 7)
- Her skin was darker in ME3

All this work, didn't even get a close to perfect Shep... =\\ This shouldn't be happening.

Just so I understand this thread clearly:

Folks are having issues importing their Shepards from the previous games using the face codes?
Does this also apply to gameplay choices and flags set from a ME2 import as well, or only the face (the CC issues)?

As frustrating as this is guys, please try not to incite or flame Bioware or anyone in particular.
We're just as eager for Me3 to be as good as possible as the development team. Until we know for certain of a patch (or lack of), try not to cast dispersions as quick without 100% facts.

Sorry but I am going to flame BioWare's QA division. Unless someone specifically states this is being patched at this very moment, a bunch of people did not do their jobs or, some QA middle manager somewhere did not think that having to recreate a five year old face that you built in the original game would be that big a deal.

Both rationalizations indicate to me that their QA department is wildly out of touch with the expectations of the fanbase. Both rationalizations indicate to me that their QA department is inept.

This isn't a small, hard to spot bug that only comes up in one of one thousand hardware/software/driver combonation issues. This should have been dead easy to spot simply by running an importation straight through all three games to ensure the chargen import worked.

So it was spotted, theres no way it wasn't spotted, and someone decided it wasn't critical enough to fix.

Where's the thanks button at.  I agree whole heartedly with your post. <3

Yeah I mentioned the light green eye color not existing in ME2 in an earlier post. I don't know if they exist or not in ME3 though. (Probably not) I am going to say that if my ME1 Shep doesn't transfer then that my Shep is wearing contacts or used some kind of futuristic eye surgery. (Hey you can change your eye color to blue now with today's technology so why not?)

After recreating my faces in ME2...it is pretty evident that ME1 imported faces are done in a different manner than using face codes. Eye color for instance varies in intensity.

People are having trouble transfering a ME-ME2 Shep to ME3 since porting a ME1 Shep to ME2 did not give you a face code. ME3 seems to be solely relying on the facecodes instead of the headmorphs. And no this is a problem only terms of the face.
