BioWare's internal QA division is one of the better paying jobs in the US industry at this time, far as game software QA goes.

Though this kind of error does make you sort of think they must have been using a bunch of unpaid interns.

I don't know the internals of BioWare/EA QA, but unless you have inside knowledge, it is completely possible that QA found this issue and other groups (Say, Marketing) made the call that it was a low-priority bug or simply not a show-stopper.

Just had to bring that up since I know QA often gets dumped on for things that get released even when it does find them but the dev/release team structure is such that they don't get to make the calls for what is critical.

I spent half of the day yesterday creating face codes for my imports because I used direct ME1 faces. I used the combination of uploading my save information to this site. http://legion.cal24.....php/site/index and this sitehttp://masseffecttools.99k.org/index.php that is explained in the OP and then starting ME2 with each character just so I could get a face code. Thankfully when I was done I am happy with the results I saw in ME3demo

for example:
Penny from ME2: Image IPB
and the same character in the demo:
Image IPB

another example Roslyn in me2:
Image IPB
and a shot of her from the demo (with a new hairdo)
Image IPB

I did hate that I had to spend most of my day getting them right rather then playing through Penny's ME2 game (there is no way I'll have her done by tonight at midnight)

Your first one looks just about spot on.

As for me, I did a few of my Shepards in the demo just going on memory and they actually looked pretty close. I imagine if I did this ME2 thing it'd probably look better.

What if, when Bioware released the demo, they said something like this:

"We have discovered that many ME1 faces are no longer compatible with our new character creation system. We apologize for this, and hope to have a fix by launch. However, if we are unable to correct the issue, we are including the full character creator in the ME3 demo. That way, you will have plenty of time to recreate your Shepard, and record the face code. We hope you enjoy the demo."

Would that have been so hard?

Just want to again say this solution:

social.bioware.com/forums/forum/1/topic/323/index/9247811/3#9249327

...works very well. Many people (including myself) have gotten good results. It sounds more complicated than it really is. Don't let it scare you off.

Yep my Pissed off Shepard with the facecode came out dead solid in the ME3 demo and all he was missing was the Renegade Scars which I believe will transfer on import. (PS3 Shepard from ME2).

Yeah that might work for me if I actually played games on consoles and all that.

I know the verdict is still out on this potential problem, but I think that having to recreate my cannon Shepard (circa hollidays 2007) would be the absolute worst way to begin the third installment this highly anticipated, character-driven trilogy....

Here is the me2 results from a direct me1 import. I'd rather not lose my  Shepard.

My direct import from me1 to me2 does not have a facecode on the squad menu.  Hypothetically, what does that mean for my chances of smooth transfer to me3?

I can't see any of the team leads on this project not considering this a critical error that would need to be addressed before certifying a gold master. And Marketing would definitely not have the authority to cut down a bug list to make a release date that was already pushed back once.

Seriously this "bug" could be fixed in the next 10 hours, easily, and pushed as a patch to Origin before any US player even starts their game. This is not a difficult issue to spot, nor is it time intensive to fix.

You won't have a smooth transfer. You will have to rebuild the entire face from scratch.

It's not like nobody knows about it, either.

Using the "Gibbed editor" to get my face code, I was able to get most of my Shep over, at least into the demo. Just had to change eye color, hair style and color, etc. Didn't quite get the nose right... might fix that in the ful game.

Nope you will most likely have this problem that people are having. We do not know if it will happen to everybody and we don't know if patch will fix this problem or not.

I have been trying for the last hour or so to get this to work. When I try to upload my YAML file on the mass effect tools website it just sits there, for some reason it will not upload. Anybody here who has used this solution have any idea what I am doing wrong? I wouls seriously appreciate the help cuz losing my cannon shepard would be a real kick in the quad.

Well if the patch doesn't solve it and I do get the message at least it will only be once or twice. (My 13+ other Shepards are on PS3 ME2)

Edit: ENGRISH GRAMARZ FTW!!

After you upload the YAML file you then have to seach for your Shepherd with the name you uploaded it with. Then It will display slider positions and a face code. When you then put your facecode into ME3 it won't look right as there are few options set to defualt. Adjust all those and you should be good. I actually saw my Shepherd "snap" into frame.

I left a link to this Thread on the mass effect 2 page on face book.................they responded by saying "Thanks for posting this. We will get additional feedback to the devs."

Because, ya know, it's just not possible that the Devs have seen this thread.

The problem is I can not get the file to upload to even search for it. I type in a name then browse for the file put it in then hit upload file and it just sits there. I get no response from it, thought it did it without my realizing so I tried doing a search for the name typed it in hit search and nothing happened again.

Yeah its just not possible that anyone at BioWare even knew about this before they certified the gold master.

poppycock, I say, utter rot.
