You can't import a face created in Mass Effect 1 into 3! Bioware has responded! (See OP)

I dont have my ME1 saves but I have my ME2 saves? Am I still screwed? this sucks.

Nope, like me for the most part you should be fine. This only concerns ME1 ported Shepards for the most part. I only have two from ME1 myself.

uh I wrote this wrong, I played ME1 b4 ME2 and imported that charecter into ME2. I lost my ME1 save when I changed hard drives. So am I screwed?

So, just so I understand, unless a day one patch comes out I will have to recreate my Shepherd's face in ME3 as it is an imported face from ME1 to ME2?

There's no other issues with importing ME2 saves/decisions etc?

The issue is just with the faces, decisions etc should carry through fine.

except the bugs, and the Udina/Anderson issue as it seems

What's the Udina/Anderson issue?

There isn't one. Udina is councillor, Anderson (if chosen) stepped down, it's mentioned in the novel, it's mentioned in the ME3 codex, random guy is crying about how it got his councillor choice wrong, the end.

not exactly a bug as it seems, but it also bugs me, I don't read those books and don't care about it :?

Ah ok, I had a feeling this would happen though. I have only one save where Anderson is councillor so it's not the end of the world!

Yeah, couldn't cope with the retcon.

I just did the painstaking process of going back to ME2, trying (and succeeding for the most part) to recreate a Shepard's face from ME1, then imported the code to the ME3 demo.

While I was a little iffy at first, I did some changes to the hair colour and such and she came out not looking so bad actually. A lot more human than plastic like in the previous two games.

Well luckily I edited the face after Mass Effect 1 --> Mass Effect 2. I guess it should import fine into ME3 now. Either way, I've got my face code written down. :)

Well if there was, there would be a BioWare icon under the post. Or a new sticky.

Sorry if someone has already covered what I'm about to say, but has anyone tried starting a new game in ME2 with their endgame ME2 Shepard as the import option?
I did this and once I got to the point where I could open up the Squad menu, I found that my Shepard now had a character code available. I then took that code, entered it into the ME3 demo and after fixing a few things that I knew 100% to be wrong (eye/hair color, hair, eyebrows, lips) and leaving the actual facial structure options alone, I was able to recognize my ME2 Shepard in ME3.

So I now have a satisfactory code that I can use if ME3 tries to give me trouble about importing my ME1 Shepard. Though, I am slightly unsatisfied with the nose.  I'm not sure if the one that I used had been removed or altered between games, or if it's a case of the specific "Facial Structure" slider having such a big impact on the shapes of the noses for a male Shepard.

It would definitely be worth a try for those who might not have already done so. And be sure not to be discouraged at the CC screen, just change what is very obviously wrong and head on into the demo to verify because, unfortunately, the CC screen is still a pretty bad representation of how your character will look in game. At the very least, you will have something familiar to build upon and not have to undergo a full, from scratch, recreation.

Or maybe it's a case of the specific "Facial Structure" slider having such a big impact on the shapes of the noses for a male Shepard, which is annoying in and of itself, since only one particular "Facial Structure" option seems to allow for normal looking nose variants.

It would definitely be worth a try for those who might not have already done so. This seems to be an inconsistent variable. Some people's Sheps look similar when they do this, mine had changed ethnicity and grown a beard. Either way, simply importing would be preferable

That's really a shame.
This is the official board and no unknown website.
They ignored the fans during the development of the game and they do it now, so they are consistent at least.

I guess I have to do it your way. It shouldn't bother me when only the face stays the same but playing with hair and eyes is hard.

Bioware is too busy planning the launch party........ First (and second and third) round of drinks is on us.

Seriously PLC,

Stop complaining that people don't find this a big deal. Most Shepard faces are actually very similar anyway, and it doesn't affect the game.

He is not the only one "complaining", this was a feature promised to us before the first game even came out.

The code from ME2 I had for my characters face worked just fine so if need be fire up ME2 write down your face code then copy that and bang your characters there no trouble, it worked in the demo just fine

Better damn well be Bombay Sapphire all around, cause if they chintz on the drinks when they've obviously cut corners in development....well thats just not done.

Shouldn't be too difficult to recreate my Shep's face - but BW definitely should try to fix that issue, hmm? Face converter anyone?

BTW: isn't there a face converter from ME1 -> ME2 including a code? Does that one work with ME3?

Not to mention that we have had no response what so ever.

Their is something wrong with importing;  Fine, understandable.  No one's perfect.

I don't expect them to instantly fix it.

The least we could have is a little bit of respect from the devs and have them at least come on here and give us a "We will look into" but so far we have'nt even gotten a polite ***k you from them.

Then again maybe we have....

This entire thread... this entire problem... this entire thing... this entire debacle... it's all dumb as hell. My head wants to sink into the desk and never emerge.

That's how I feel about everything that happens here now.

Using the code from ME2's character creation might work as a tempfix, however it doesn't import the facial scarring you get from going Renegade. I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but it's all the more reason for them to fix this now before the launch :(

Normaly I am the first person to rage against complainers but PLC's complaint is actualy very valid.  Many of us have made Shepards in ME 1 and we didn't change them when we imported them into ME 2 because we wanted that sense of continuity with our custom Shepards made back in ME 1 to carry over throughout the entire series.  I have envisioned my canon being the one to take down the reapers for years being just the way I made him.  Bioware should have fixed this a long time ago.  It should be a non issue.

How is people wanting to keep the look of their Shepard in any way 'dumb'?

The big selling point of the franchise has been that you continue your story and to some people that means what their Shepard looks like, as well as what choices they've made.
