This is odd.. Manveer Heir told me on Twitter that the ME3 CC should look at the raw face data - i.e. even if a face code is present it should be irrelevant.

I'm going to be pissed if my Shepard looks retconned in the 3rd game. Hopefully it turns out okay and not like the demo - my demo Shep looked too off for me to accept happily. :/

Seriously PLC,

Stop complaining that people don't find this a big deal. Most Shepard faces are actually very similar anyway, and it doesn't affect the game.

Normaly I am the first person to rage against complainers but PLC's complaint is actualy very valid.  Many of us have made Shepards in ME 1 and we didn't change them when we imported them into ME 2 because we wanted that sense of continuity with our custom Shepards made back in ME 1 to carry over throughout the entire series.  I have envisioned my canon being the one to take down the reapers for years being just the way I made him.  Bioware should have fixed this a long time ago.  It should be a non issue.

Exactly as I've said repeatedly this isn't the kind of glaringly obvious chargen bug that you should let through a gold master certification process.

Someone F'd up hard here. And hey thats cool, sometimes people F up, but at least own up to it and plan out a way to fix the problem and stop acting like if you simply ignore the problem the problem isn't there and won't matter.

Yeah, if looking at the face codes instead of the raw data was actually what they did... then I don't know... they do realize that they've changed the CC from even ME2's, right?

At the bottom of the charater creation screen whereit says "code". it will pull up the 360 keyboard and you type it in. Try it on the demo.

The issue has been confirmed by Mike Gamble, producer on the Mass Effect franchise, on twitter. Here's the convo:

Nick Fritz
@GambleMike But people who imported from ME2, using an UNCHANGED facecode from ME1 are having problems.

Michael Gamble
@njfritz yes, good point. If that occurs, you will be asked to rebuild the face.

Person Dude ‏
@GambleMike @njfritz Are you kidding me? Why?!

Michael Gamble
@Person_Dude as I get more info/ conclusive info, I will pass it on. I'm not positive yet.

While i appreciate the straight answer i hate the way he is just so non-chalant about it. "Yeah you will have to rebuild it. Deal with it. We don't care about our long time fans. Go **** yourselves. Oh and Please give us more money." That is what it feels like we are being told.

So if I import my ME1 character to ME2 to ME3, I'll have facial problems?

Wow. First Day 1 DLC ignites the forums in rage-flames, then leaked endings make things even worse, then GAME cancels all UK pre-orders, and now this.

Are they trying to win an award for how many customers they can **** off before launch?

There do appear to be some threads but no BW replies.

I'm trying to avoid that forum since its getting spoiler heavy already.

Thanks Chinese VPNs!

Yeah, I don't think Bioware seems to understand that forgetting to include one of the heavily advertised features of your game is a freaking huge deal.

You'll have more than facial problems, it will tell you that your face can't be generated and you'll be forced to rebuild it from scratch or accept Sheploo.

From Michael Gamble:
"@Joe_of_the_Dead however, you may have issues if you did not adjust or touch up your face when starting me2.You will have to regenerate then"

How did they screw this up so badly?

'Regenerate'? I don't want Shep to look like Matt Smith!

Whoa, are you kidding me?! That's a slap to the face for those who started from ME1. Thanks for the reply.

I used this method to get the face code for my me1 shepard and put into the demo here are links to the results:

http://i811.photobuc...er20/IMG212.jpg This is the one from the demo that I used the face code to get.

http://i811.photobuc...er20/IMG211.jpg This is a shot from ME2 squad screen.

They look similar enough I suppose, its better than starting from scratch, but a direct import would be so much better. At least if we dont get  a patch there  is an option here.

Fortunately or unfortunately the Mass Effect creator hasn't improved or changed that much between 1 and 3. It will not take long to recreate a close appearance of the character you created in ME1. Any slight difference can be chalked up to aging. :)

So, just so I understand, unless a day one patch comes out I will have to recreate my Shepherd's face in ME3 as it is an imported face from ME1 to ME2?

There's no other issues with importing ME2 saves/decisions etc?

The issue is just with the faces, decisions etc should carry through fine.

except the bugs, and the Udina/Anderson issue as it seems

What's the Udina/Anderson issue?

There isn't one. Udina is councillor, Anderson (if chosen) stepped down, it's mentioned in the novel, it's mentioned in the ME3 codex, random guy is crying about how it got his councillor choice wrong, the end.

Yeah, couldn't cope with the retcon.

thi reminds me, how did/does ME2-3 handle it if Anderson is killed in ME1? Like a bad dream and he pops up in your shower? (Dallas >>> intended)
