You can't import a face created in Mass Effect 1 into 3! Bioware has responded! (See OP)

But we don't know what it does though exactly right? Are there any notes as of yet? I haven't seen any.

Obviously, they aren't going to comment until after the game is out. Commenting is not going to fix the problem; it will only generate headlines that will derail the launch that they've invested millions into executing.

Yeah we've all gone over that thread. The issue is using a third party developers work around to fix a Triple AAA first party developers mistake on the very first day of release is just freaking sad.

I mean this isn't on the level of Monochrome Wench having to make a large address aware work around for FONV/Skyrim cause Bethesda/Zenimax couldn't be bothered to realize their engines used more than 1GB of memory on high memory machines, thats something I can understand requiring third party input, and eventually it no longer required it because someone at Bethesda finally realized that Skyrim wasn't going to work under their old tech parameters and made the game large address aware in one of the post release patches.

This is literally a case of...game isn't even officially out, a major part of its RPG functionality is broken and we're having to use hackneyed work arounds to do something that Mass Effect 2 did with Mass Effect saves with no issue whatsoever.

Well I highly doubt that we will be getting a response today of all days. I would say give it a day or two after release that is when people will be really complaining as you already know/guessed.

OK, so I'm in the ME2 character creator, hopping back and forth between my Shepard and a custom one.

I assume the code at the bottom left corner is what I input into the ME3 demo for further refining?

The code for the custom preset is not your Shepard's face code, thats the code for the preset chargen headmorph that pops up when you click on custom.

first of all I'm a huge bethesda fan (single player games only) and I have to say that when you make games as big as fallout and skyrim there are going to be some oversights that you can't get by release date

second of all since I play on the xbox I usually expect lower quality then the "superior PC gamer master race" so I have no problem with bugs you can find a way around 

for better or for worse bioware just made a damn big game and has a reason to may have let some issues slip

I meant that I'm tinkering with the custom, getting it as close to my Shepard as possible. The code kepe changing, so that has to be it.

I just wish my Shepard took tilt her head.

The workaround is pretty much spot-on as far as I can tell, so all is not lost. I just think it's silly Bioware didn't fix this before release =/ If there is a work-around already in place, clearly they could have coded this into the final product. It's not like there is some fundamental differences between ME1 and ME2 that prevent you from using the same headmorph. They just didn't bother fixing the bug and assumed we wouldn't care, or something? No idea.

Anyway, I'm sure this will be patched and fixed shortly after release. In the meantime, just use the work-around and be happy that there IS a fairly simple work-around.

So pissed right now, even taking my face code from 2 that i made PERFECT from my code from me1, my me3 char still looks like ****, Y U DO THIS!?

There isn't one. Udina is councillor, Anderson (if chosen) stepped down, it's mentioned in the novel, it's mentioned in the ME3 codex, random guy is crying about how it got his councillor choice wrong, the end.


wait, wait, wait THAT IS AN ISSUE.  I distinctively chose Anderson to be a councillor, we straight up humilated Udina in ME1 and we acknowledged that Udina was butthurt in ME2 because he had to take orders for Anderson.  

You mean to tell me they overrode our decision on the story now that Udina is the councillor.  WTF!

Well, if you have the patience and the fluffie tool, it's not impossible to figure out face codes from ME1 This is a pain, but all is not lost.

Right yes, this isn't exactly a "the sky is falling" issue.

Its more a "the sky shouldn't have fell, there is no logical reason for it to have fallen" issue.

Ok when I saw this a few days ago, I admit I thought it was people just not doing it properly.

After finding out this is actually now true I cant say is how disappointed I am.  

Im not going to let it overshadow my game experience, but tweaking my Shep before starting isnt something I should be doing!  This should not have happened.

So is it 100% confirmed we can't keep our faces if we import an ME1 face? I just want to know because if that is so then I'm screwed with all my Shepards since none of them have an ME2 face.

it was an issue with the Novels that they canonically fixed now

I feel really bad for you all. I spent like 10 minutes making my ME1 Shep, so I have no problems remaking his face. Again, I'm really sorry you're losing the skin you spent such a long time on.Image IPB

the faces imported of ME1 in ME3 are very strange and different!!

Oh I hope this isn't going to be a permanent thing if I have issues with my faces. I spent literally hours perfecting my face for ME1, even so much as making sure it looked good in ME2 and then going back to tweaking it in ME1.

On top of that, using the same creation code in the ME3 Demo as I had in ME2, the hair is completely different, the eyes are different, and it just doesn't look like my Shep at all.
