 Here's my spec:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3System Manufacturer:

FoxconnBIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PGProcessor: Intel® Pentium® D CPU 2.80GHz (2 CPUs)

Memory: 2046MB RAM

DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Chip type: GeForce 8800  Integrated RAM 512.0 MB

I can run most high end games fine! but i'm getting absolutely diabolical fps!!

My guess would be between 8-14!! By default it turned everything to max =]

so i was playing the game fine! now i'm experiancing super lagg even with the settings all to the lowest!

I've tried setting the affinity to 1 CPU but that makes things worse, i have no idea what to do...

This game is Epic and i can't play it!! =[ any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Xero

Try disbleing your sound card, or disable all sound in the game through the configurations menu.

I had the same problem and that fixed the framerate issue. I don't know a workaround for still getting sound in-game though.

Since you do not report any crashes i don't think it is entirely related to this, but at times Nvidea PhysX can cause problems with DAO - most notably in frequent crashes and extreme slowdowns in some parts of the game.

If this is the case you should disable PhysX. To do this open the configuration screen, choose "other options" and then "Nvidia PhysX" or something like that. Then set the checkbox to "Disabled", save, and restart the game. For me that fixed the entire issue; yet again, most times people report both crashes and poor framerate, so i am not certain if we are talking about the same issue.

That P4D is bottlenecking the video card. It just can't cut the mustard!

I would suggest try tuning down your graphics settings a bit. Disabling frame buffer effects worked very well for me. Try turning down your Anti-Aliasing to 2x if it's not already there.. Oddly enough, running in windowed mode also worked, likely due to the lower resolution I was running at.

Setting CPU affinity really only helps with the memory leak/load issue that some people are reporting from what I've read. You may also try turning off some unneeded background services like automatic updates when running the game, but what you need to leave running will vary from system to system.

I really don't know

Even on AA off, Graphics Low, Texture Low, Res 1024 x 768, Frame buff off, i still have really bad Fps!!

Most Games are fine on Highest, i just don't see the problem!! =[

I turned off Nvidia phsyx but to no avail!!

We just have to hope the patch makes a difference. It's supposed to bring "general performance improvements".

Many others on a wide range of systems are getting the same thing.

You say you run other games on high settings. What games are these? I ask because they might be comparable to Dragon Age.

those are all older games with less graphics requirements.

your system is kinda old too.

the pentium D series really sucked.

your GPU is fine...  but i'd consider upgrading your mobo, cpu, and put at least 4 gigs of RAM in.

whatever you do, do NOT upgrade to an AMD Phenom 9500 or 9600.

When you run Dragon Age: origins, have you tried looking at your Task Manager (CTRL + ALT + Delete) more specific towards the processes being run on your pc?

Just a quick suggestion. I'll assume for the moment that your using a laptop due to the integrated card. As such, check your power management scheme and make sure that its not set to a maximum battery life, or something that will majorly gimp your systems performance. I've had issues in the past with power scheme settings, on both XP and Vista machine, screw with games if these settings were set to conserve power usage.

I'll just quote myself again

2. Try right clicking on your shortcut and running in XP Compatibility mode SP2/SP3

3. Run the game in  window mode (This really does wonders according to some people, so you should definitely try this first)

4. Install Microsoft .NET Framework  4.0 beta 2 (This cut down loading time from minutes down to seconds for many people)

5. My suggestion (No one has tried it yet so I'm not even sure if it works or if it's completely useless)

theres something else horribly wrong here, a 8800gt should stomp this game into the ground. I have a pentium 4 machine with 6800gt and it runs fine at your settings

Not really that surprising actually. I don't know  anything about hardware, but one thing I do know is that there is such an enormously wide variety of  hardware and software configurations  that it becomes a bit of a crapshoot .

Something that runs perfectly on one system, would chug at a crawl on another system even though they have similar (but not the exactly the same) specs.

In addition to this,  some games suffer more from the variety than others. Dragon age might be one of those games. WoW is another game where a slight difference between hardware could cause a huge difference in performance.

Thoughts:

1. have you installed the most recent game patch, 1.01b?

2. Are you using the most current video drivers?

3. Try turning off ALL startups in msconfig.

4. When was the last time you defraged your hard drive?

5. Since it is a laptop, what RPM is your hard drive spinning at?
