Why? Heavier, much poorer manipulation, lower flexibility and manoeuvrability. This would be an absolutely terrible choice. EDI is supposed to be an artificial intelligence. Why should SHE not want to appear attractive? She is supposed to have her own traits, manerisms, desires etcandroid654 wrote...

Although I think Bioware can come up with much better designs than in the picture, something more practical would certianly let me take her character more serious.
I bet if EDI had a male voice it would look more like that picture, rather than looking like a metal Vega for example.
Western Double Standards, yay!

Some people like to be surprised by story events before going into a game. Just because you don't care, doesn't mean other people don't. Luckily, I knew about this, but I'd be mad right now if I didn't.

When I see spoilers I just think "neat, I can't wait to experience this" (book, movie, game, what have you). Some people really overreact to spoilersDoomHK wrote...

artificial intelligence=/= human thoughts or experience
EDI has no notion of sexy or attractive. Those are concepts which would be vague at best. Also EDI isn't a she nor a he. She has no gender to speak of because she isn't organic and she isn't autonomous so she can't rationalize like a person. As an artificial intelligence that has been taught to operate in a military function, once in a body her first thoughts would be about protection, preservation and how to accomplish her work. Would she be able to do that as a sex-bot or as a robot that physically durable and equipped with the armor and weapons it needs to protect itself.

It's not a spoiler after three months ago. They talked about it at a few game reviewer sites and the art book which came out not too long ago. It's old news.

EDI is not a VI, she is an AI. She shows compassion, she shows a sense of humour, she wants to be part of the crew etc etc. It is somewhat of a hypothetical discussion but once you get into the realms of artifical intelligence there are many different grades. EDI is being represented as the ultimate goal - a fully intelligent entity. Once they start thinking for themselves and genuinely learning they take on their own personality. Being organic is completely irrelevant.android654 wrote...

VI? Who said anything about a VI?
*SIGH*
I'll put it like this. EDI is more like a child than a super being. Her interaction with people allows her to grow with experience. Yes she understands how to fraternize and communicate with people, but the desire to be physically appealing is not something she would just pick up. She's ignorant of what "sexy" even means or the intricacies of human interaction at a sexual level. Sex is not something an AI would think about without enough exposure that they can understand it. Think about all her time in the Normandy including the years it took to develop her to that point and yet her communication with people is still not at a human level. Imagine all she would have to do and all the time that would have to pass in order for her to become curious about engaging in sex.

Ha ha, now you're calling her a she
What you described originally was not a genuine artificial intelligence. Yes, she will be childlike in human understanding, but more like an exceptionally intelligent child. She would easily understand what is sterotypically considered sexy, even if she may be wrong on some of the finer points. She has a bit of an ego, in ME2 she likes to point out how awesome she is. She gets slightly irritated when Shepard is a jerk. The years it took to develop her are irrelevant, once she starts learning she develops her own communication skills. She wants to be considered part of the crew. Similar story philosophies have been explored from Frankenstein through to I Robot.

Part of experiencing the story is not knowing what is going to happen next. That is why epic twists are so memorable and that is why anyone even remembers M. Something Shymalamanam's only good movie.

If they're gonna give her a body, might as well be an attractive one. Or do you prefer she'd look like R2-D2?
I would actually. I liked EDI as a talking ball, even with the unfortunate implications. It was different, unique, and we finally had a platonic relationship with a female character who wasn't built for the sexy.
Hell, it was so goddam refreshing she became my favorite support character.
Well, now Mass Effect is all about the sexy. Different strokes for different folks, but I am getting a bit weary of all the "sexy" and over the top action.
That's one of the things I love about Mass Effect. Great sci-fi action & story with some sexy thrown in. If I just wanted military realism with bland and plain jane looking characters, I'll go play Ghost Recon.
Military realism? Mass Effect never had that. I disagree with you here vehemently.
ME started as a space opera that built upon sci fi tropes fusing discovery and wonder, relying more on story and atmosphere to present the universe and tell the tale they wanted.
If I wanted sexy I would just go play... Just about any other damn game out in the market. Seriously sexy is so stuffed into all the games lately its gotten BORING for me. Cleavage? Over the top action? Welcome to the generic gaming world at large!

Seriously, if you look in the spoilers section ( Which this thread should be) you will see a reason for it.
But when they make James Vega buff, everyone goes " He's nothing but a meathead, wth Bioware???" If a woman needs to be ugly to be smart in your eyes, then clearly you're the superficial one.
And lets remember there is lots of gene therapy nowadays in Mass Effect. They could easily tweak women to be attractive. But whatever, I'm superficial because all smart women are ugly bettys while hot women are Snookies.
