8.4 ?!?

How the hell did they manage to rate replayability at 9/10 ?!?

lol yeah I was confused about that as well, surely if the game is 60hrs+ and you can finish many times with different races/backgrounds/classes/party members it would get a 10 :/

the AU reviews are almost always much harsher than the US reviews.

seems to me the reviewer just didn't like the fact that it wasn't BG3 and that the graphics aren't crysis level. I think they look fantastic.

Well its just an opinion. A review, but still his opinion on the game. Hes welcome to it, even if I disagree.

I agree with basically everything jegillan said. IGN AU is much harsher in general and the dude did seem pretty pissed that this wasn't his vision of what BG3 should have been, it was like he was comparing it to something he had in his head instead of rating it for what it was.

The whole thing is it sounds like its written by a non RPG person. Granted I have not played the game yet but name me one game that comes close to BG2 instead of being RPG lite. And as well all know this game is made for the PC.

It ports well to the consoles but ultimately this was built to be a PC game. Perhaps I'm just too much of a fan boy at the moment to be impartial. Oh well.

Meh, I'm not going to cancel my pre-order over it.
I find it funny that the guy knocks the enemy A.I. when most of the other reviews and previews I've looked at say that enemies will target the squishiest people in your party, but I guess everyone has a different experience with the game.

And it's not really a bad score, is it? It's the lowest score I've seen so far, but at least it's not a 75% or something.

The PC version will score higher.

yeh, not too bad of a score considering it was for the 360 and the main thing that brang it down was the graphics not being good enough

Most of us don't really mind the graphics so its all good :D

Well, Aussies are way harsher than Americans. I lived down under for a while and they don't play when it comes to judging people and things.

That said, it was still a score of impressive.

Reading the review, sounds like he'd rather be reviewing the new Mass Effect instead.

Annnnnnnnd... I was right heheh

So basicly a mass effect fan did the review and gave a 8.4 for graphics and sound? *shakes head*

This game looks like its better than BG2. And thats saying something. Grahpics be damn, I still play outdated games like BG2 so I could careless. For the story alone this game should be at least a 9. I'll see if its a 10 when I play it. Could finnaly be the game that replaces BG2 as that one game you constantly replay.

Isn't that just the Australian review?

Or is that the final review for the American (real) site?

IGN: AU is almost as bad as Game Informer: UK.

Hm. Is it just me or did the reviewer try to claim Black Isle as the developers of Baldur's Gate 2?

After reading the review, I was disappointed with a few things:

1) LOTR. I hate LOTR, so damn bland. I really hope this guy saw more LOTR in Dragon Age than there truly is in the game.

2) Enemies blindly charge. Seems there's no enemy AI.

I was glad to hear reinforcement on the storyline, which (aside from characterization) is the most important thing. He said this is the next best thing to BG3, so I'm happy on that count.

For an RPG that is playable on a wide-range of pc rigs and 360 and ps3 the graphics are more than adequate, scoring at least in the 9s. I have the character creator maxed on graphics and boy does it look splendid on a 9800m GTS 1gig card. The character models are intricately detailed and thats just my character never mind the rest and then the world. Someone must of took a dump in this guys cereal this morning.

An 8.4? It's a Bioware game for petes sake, I still remember when Gamespot gave Mass Effect an 8.8 I was rip****. Some people just can't appreciate a quality game when it's put infront of them. Oh well 1 screwy review, water under the bridge Bioware! You are one of my favorite game developers and I'm a veteran gamer, I can actually start a game on hard difficulty and not die repeatedly *cough IGN quicklook for DA cough*. I'm pretty sure most of the people I chat with everyday on these forums are as well, good ol' BGI and II fans.

After reading his review(What a god awful review) and considering his points I take his score add 1.0 to it to offset the Close-minded Gaming Idiot factor of -1.0 so the review should actually read 9.4. I'm not being a fanboy either he was pretty unfair in his review.

/end rant

LOTR is bland? Ummm...Excuse me? You do realize LOTR is the only reason games like this exist, right? Tolkien's writing can get annoying at times, but bland? Really?

Sure sounds like it.

IGN Reviewer wrote...
When publisher Black Isle Studios closed its doors, the Baldur's Gate
saga ended abruptly, leaving fans of the High Fantasy RPG series with
few other options as polished and fully-realised as Shadows of Amn and
its expansion, Throne of Baal. When Bioware took up the crown itself,
eventually wowing a legion of players with Knights of the Old Republic
and Mass Effect, a new RPG heavyweight had assured its place in the tomes of gaming lore.

It's a bit hard to take someone who could make a mistake like that seriously.

Also, praise for ME's dialogue wheel? :?

Yeah...I've got to be honest and say that I'm not feeling the reviewer at all.  His experience with fantasy seems to be limited to Lord of the Rings and Forgotten Realms.

Meh, it's the 360 review anyway, so I don't really care. :D
