The title is wrong. This is not the IGN review, it's the IGN AU review.

IGN gave both Halo3 and GoW2 a 9.5. Obviously they haven't a clue what makes a decent game. IGN's reviews are laughable to me.

Yeah because I remember GoW 2 not selling & everyone saying how much they ha.......oh wait.

It's not the score that is the problem. It's the contents of the review that makes it full of facepalm moments. Just read it; if you really are Bioware fan, you know what I'm talking about.

We have LOTRO to thank for almost everything we enjoy in the
genre.  And by LOTRO I mean J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece.  The Silmarillion,
The Hobbit, The Lord of The Rings, The Lost Tales, and The Children of Hurin (beautifully
sad story).  Take away LOTRO and you never play Baldur's Gate - or even
roll a ten sided die for the matter.

However, if you are referring to Peter Jackson’s LOTRO - than I would for the
most part agree (with the exception of the Extended Edition of The Fellowship
of the Ring)

lol I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices that. Esp when he tryed to compare Dragon Ages combat to Mass Effect, claiming how great it was. When most Mass Effect fans including me will tell you that it was generic to average at best, but got the job done in an epic game no doubt. There were just a lot of flaws in the review.  At one point there was even talk about Hollywood and bs, I'm like wtf? It had nothing to do with the review really, I mean sure its going to take that direction during cut scenes I'm assuming, much like Mass Effect and any game in 09. What did he expect though? I read before looking at the score, and all it was, was a nit picking fest.

I tell you, for a shocking low good score of 8.4, you wouldn't of even guessed that by just reading through that depressing review... Which makes you wonder, from all of the positive reviews we've read, that AU IGN review makes me feel as if I'm missing something. Hopefully the U.S review is much more indepth and not as off topic and biased.

I think the reviewer was basically trying to say the Darkspawn visually resemble the orcs in the the LOTR movie a great deal. There do seem to be a lot of other similiar things, though I can't see how that would be a terrible thing. Honestly, there's nothing wrong with the score although the reviewer should have done a little research before publishing his review if for no other reason to have gotten his facts straight.

I'm a big fan of Bioware and always have been but that doesn't mean I believe that everything they make is Epic quality. I had high hopes for Mass Effect, but they were severely damaged by the shipping product. Bioware has to make design decisions just like everyone else, and if that means the VO's had to suffer a bit for the story and mechanics to be better then so be it.

I'll be really happy if they never let someone like Obsidian get a hold of the IP like they did Kotor and NWN..

I found this to be a bizarr review. The overall negative tone in which he wrote the review suggests he had very little good to say about the game. Yet it gets a score of 8.4 which is decent by any standards.

Most games that get 8.4 are described as good games with a few faults or omissions. Yet the reviewer had very little good to say and what he did say was always qualified by some fault.

A very poor and confusing review. Is this a good game or not? The reviewer doesn't seem to make it clear.

Of course GoW2 sold well, because it catered to the simple-minded massed with a terribly amateur story line, (if there even was a story line) and mindless, repetitive gameplay where the entirety of the game consists of move to this area, shoot everything, and repeat. If you thoroughly enjoyed GoW2 and think it's a great game, you should not leave the house without a helmet.

Check out videos of the PC on high settings vs. the 360. The difference is amazing. PC's have a huge advantage. It appears that the "current generation" of consoles are becoming outdated as far as graphics. To top this off PC-3D is catching on fast.

Since this review is based on the 360, I wouldn't worry about the graphics complaints if you have a decent PC or a PS3.

I'm tired of people ****ing about 8.X reviews. 8.X is still a good game, certainly a must for any fans of the genre (9+ would be a must for ANY hardcore gamer, regardless of genre). If you consider that it seems to be at the lower tail end of the score distribution, that's pretty impressive. Like, if the worst possible review you get is in the mid-8s, that's a win in my book.

8,4 should be a good score, however compared to other games in th 9-bracket, 8,4 isn't that great anymore. One very bad thing with most reviewers is that if the reviewer likes the game then he/she usually puts high scores even where the game is obviously lacking, just to justify a higher overall score.

A prime example of how reviewers raise a score for games they like is Batman:AA. It got 9.0 in lasting appeal, but they also state that the game takes 12 hours to finish + achiements etc and that you might come back for that.

DA is 60-120 hours for one playthrough, 6 origins, achievements, different choices etc. I'm sure Batman:AA is a great game, I havent played it but everyone tells me it is, however it's clearly not a 9 in lasting appeal. Probably more of a 6-7. You finish it maybe twice or three times, come back for some achievements and you're done, that can't last you more than 30-50 hours.

i think it's a shame that they didn't wait to post this review along with the upcoming UK and US reviews, because I'm pretty sure those reviews will be better.

couldn't edit the last post, was going to compare Batman:AA's 9 in lasting apppeal to a reviewer giving DA 9,5 in graphics, just because they like the game.

In that sense I think the IGN AU review is good, for the individual scores (though I'm positive 7,5 in sound is too low). But I still think that 9 in gameplay and 9 in lasting appeal for an RPG should equal 9 in overall, if the graphics and sound isn't horrible.

Gamespot's console reviews are in, and they rated the ps3 version higher than the 360's, 9.0 to 8.5

I'm pretty surprised by this I thought the ps3 would fall behind

Yeah, but Oblivion, Witcher and Mass Effect all had great graphics for RPGs. I am hoping it's just the console version but I'll see soon :)

Oblivion I did not like, at all. There was practically zero ambiance... a looped bird call, the occassional angry mob, a few deer and a shallow short flat main story arc. It was a game that devoid of life, as if someone went overboard with 1080. ME suffered like Oblivion, it felt like I was running around in a sterile world/universe... the cost of graphics can be high.

Even Jade Empire was a better game then ME, to me. The Witcher is a charming game, using a Bioware engine. The Witcher also has more ambiance and life then both Oblivion and ME combined (but it was also designed for the PC, as was DAO). I would rather have a game world that feels alive... one full of story and game play, then an ME/Oblivion graphics battle devoid of life, heart and depth... pixil junk food. The most over rated game of all time to me, was Half Life 2, unbeliveably short incrediably linear uninteresting combat and a shadow of its older brother (another game built on graphics).
