Vanguards are fine. Charging in isn't them showing off, it's an essential part of their play style.

Now, I just got through with a mission with a Turian Sentinel who thought he was a Vanguard. THAT was dumb.

I don't play Call of Duty. I play Left 4 Dead 2, and I'm a strong team player.

And it is not a lame excuse.

Taking down an enemy is satisfying, having a vanguard swoop in and "save me" is not fun.

If I'm being flanked by the enemy and I'm in the process of shooting an enemy in front of me, it's just poor play to charge the enemy I'm concentrating on when they can be cleanning up the flanking enemies.

It's all about being agressive and racking up kills themselves.

Aggressive play is what the class is designed around. A Vanguard that isn't utilizing Charge is usually a dead Vanguard. Play with people that you know, personally, if you want everyone to cater to your personal preferences.

I don't expect to change anything. I'm just being vocal about what has been bothering me: stupid players that can't play team games.

The real problem will come with the full game. Most of the immatures, arrogants and elitists probably didn't bother getting the demo.

The irony of that statement... Sounds like they're doing their job and doing it well. Don't be petty in a team-based game.

Seriously? When I've played as my Vanguard, I've been somewhat reluctant to Charge so as not to steal kills - but A) my friends didn't seem to care and B) rather than be polite and dead, it's better to kill the enemies as quickly as possible. I'm in agreement with Liber - you can't always be wasting time trying to target the guy who's least damaged to soothe someone's ego. And even if I DID target the enemy with the most health, I'm going to have to Nova to damage/stun if there's a bunch of enemies - odds are that doing so will take out the low health guy as collateral damage. Hey, if you want to die surrounded by enemies, be my guest - and at any rate, you're only bringing down the whole team if you're focused on being selfish and getting "your" kills. When I play L4D2, I'm usually grateful if my friends, you know, save me from a Hunter or a Smoker who's strangling me to death - or if they take out a Tank (because I have an unnatural ability to attract the attention of Tanks :PPPPP ).

I have to be honest with you guys, when I play with Vanguards.. I find it less fun than it is with other classes. Why? Mostly because they tend to block my shots. It's fine in silver/gold but in bronze it does affect my enjoyment of the game.

They're not 'saving' you, they're doing their job. Is an infiltrator saving you by headshotting some mob you're eyeing?

Get used to krogans and vanguards mixing it up with enemies in melee because it's not going away. You should be able to adapt to it and if they trivialize content move up to silver/gold.

Depends.

I don't expect an infiltrator to back off if he believes I'm "eyeing" an enemy. I fully expect him to blow the enemy's head off, and then move on; however, if I'm clearly about to finish an enemy with a heavy melee and the infiltrator finishes him...instead of taking care of enemies behind me...then yes, I care.

Because vanguards need to play aggressively, their play style just does not level-well with proper team etiquette.

For starters, it's about winning. Not about sharing kills. If the Vanguards stand back and let you die because they thought you "had it", you'd complain about that.

Second, that is how Vanguards HAVE to play. A Vanguard that isn't charging is either a weak, ineffective Soldier-wannabe, or dead.

Not team based if they aren't playing like a team.

Most vanguards I've come across are playing like they are solo-ing except with three other players on the map.

Isn't that just you complaining about simple human error then? Everyone makes mistakes like that and I'm sure you have. I have. Nobody, or no team is perfect after all.

They're providing openings for you and flushing people out of cover. They're doing their job. It's your own fault if you don't capitalize on that.

Heh, I was just about to point out the irony, when I read that thing. "Hey, I'm a team player, but I hate those VG show-offs that help me out with an enemy or desperately need to replenish their barriers." lawl dude

If you are on bronze/silver, they CAN ignore the team aspect, because they actually HURT themselves by staying near you.  Charge allows them to recharge their barrier and get into critical damage range in one blow.  Nothing hurts worse as a Vanguard when, just as your barriers drop to a surprise nemesis/phantom, a teammate shoots the almost-dead enemy in front of you.   By going Solo, the vanguard gets to pick her battles, choose her targets, and overall distract 50% of the enemies on the map from the main group.

On gold, a good vanguard gets delegated to a back-watching role.  While the rest of the party focuses down the main group, the vanguard can tie up any flanking manuevers or CQB situations that arise.

Certain classes are good at solo'ing.  If this pisses you off, don't play with a Salarian Infiltrator.  They WILL make the rest of their team feel somewhat useless if they are doing it right.  Heck, some guy just SOLO'D gold with one!

Well, your other description was about hitting one infront of you when you're being flanked. If I do that, it's because I picked the first target I could to get there, then follow it with a Nova to knock away everyone. Including the one about to hit you from behind.

So it might look like intentional kill-stealing, but it is an attempt to help.

Bronze difficulty.

And I wouldn't be complaining if it wasn't warranted.

You can do whatever you want, but that doesn't mean people are going to agree with you.

Just FYI, I'd be happy if a Vanguard charged something I was doing a melee on. If I'm resorting to melee, I'm in trouble.  :P

So to recap it's not a team game, and never use a vanguard.

OP have you unlocked the 5 kill streak tactical air strike yet?

[/quote]As well as Silver and Gold if human, and Silver only if drell (and both relatively skilled). You wouldn't be meeting universal resistance to your complaints if they were warranted.
