Marriage is a convention that may not be present in the future. In addition, when or where would Shepard ever have time to conduct said marriage in the game? He is always on a timetable. Sex is quick, pleasurable, and passionate. Spur of the moment for the lack of time and high emotion during the events.

Present or not, most people have sex before marriage anyway. Also, writing a wedding or marraige into a story is an instant mood killer.

That wasn't the argument I made at all. I said that it could have been done away with. Of course people have sex before marriage.

I was agreeing with you. Whether marriage exists or doesn't, most people still have sex before hand.

Personally, I'm all for a character in any role-playing game that won't have sex before marriage.

I'd like to see ALL sorts of relationships explored - gay, straight, asexual, flings, long-term relationships, etc. There's all sorts of people.

You mean your core values.

Besides, you can reject your LI before the sex scenes if you wanted to wait for marriage. In that sense your entire thread is ungrounded. For obvious reasons Shepard is a bit too busy to throw weddings right now.

And another thing; assuming you're not romancing aliens, you'd be romancing your subordinates. Where are your morals now, you aweful, aweful person!

I'd just like to make clear that this thread in no way condemns sex before marriage.  If that's your bag fine.

However in the Mass Effect games to be in relationship you have to have sex, indeed sex seems to be the ultimate goal of the relationship.

I like to RP my Shepard as honourable and classy so I can't get into a relationship because there is no option for marriage before having sex.

While BioWare have to be comended for their progressive stance in regards to homosexuals, they have really failed at putting core values in their games.

y u no support sex b4 marriage relationships OP? :crying:

Marriage is an endangered species in 2012...so by 2185 not very likely or popular. More reason for me to go there vicariously every chance I get!

I wouldn't mind role playing a "traditional values" Shepard, even though I sure don't mind fooling around. It need NOT be extravagant or even take up extra time in the game. Just have Shepard and LI agree that they will consummate their relations LATER, after the mission, instead of jumping right into a snuggle-bunny scene. The let the player head canon that they're going to get married first.

Now if the OP and other want to have Bioware render an entire elaborate wedding scene... um... no.

Good point. Also a reason why it shouldn't be in the game.

I think as long as government marriage benefits exists (tax, medical etc.) people will still want to get married..

Marriage is way more popular than homosexuality.

Would you be cool with marriage in ME3 if it included gay marriage?

I have no problem with homosexuals, I was merely stating a fact.

So does that mean you would be okay with gay marriage if marriage as a whole was allowed in the game?

Cool. More options are nice. Who knows, maybe there will be a DLC that adds at least a conversation about marriage. Actually, come to think of it, maybe there's already something like that in the game that early players haven't uncovered. Bioware's mmo, SWTOR, has several marriage subplots, so you never know.

Yeah... I don't think Shep really, er, has time for marriage. But maybe in a game like Dragon Age,OP.

You can marry Alistair, after all. And Zevran proposes to the Warden if you go about it the right way. You can wait to sleep with Zev till after he proposes if you want, too. If another DA game has marriage options, perhaps you could get your wish.

But gay people are a lot more likeable. Among the fan base, I'm pretty sure more people would support s/s relationships to marriage. Also, if we follow current trends, homosexuality could be more common than marriage.

and we've already got a thread discussing same sex relationships in this forum. There's not a whole lot of discussion going on in this thread anyway.

End of line.
