Origin is the new direct delivery service from EA games. However it is not without it's major technical hurdles that are being sorted out everday. This thread created by the community should be to share your tips and tricks with the rest of the board. Here are a few to get started.

  • If you're having issues with playing the Mass Effect 3 demo, right click on the demo and select "Repair Install", this might fix some of your issues with Physx or DLL errors.
  • When you purchase or download a full game or demo, do it from the website, not origin. It seems the launcher is having issues at the moment acquiring demos or games.
  • The website is the best way. You will need to log in where by you will then be able to download and purchase games. It will ask you to launch origin and you wll need to login again. After that click "allow" to launch the installation of your game or demo once purchased.
  • To acquire the demos from Origin head on over to the "Free Games" section. This is both for the website and the Origin launcher.

Thanks for the tips (I seriously mean that)!

Now, here are some more serious potential tips:
1) Understand that Origin's customer service is rather terrible and unreliable, unless you happen to get one of the good people on the phone. If you still want to play Origin games, accept this; you can still try to respectfully complain or suggest change, but this mentality will save you a lot of rage and stress down the line.

2) The reason why the "live chat" support service takes forever (after the wait in line is over, obviously) is because each person is probably "helping" five people at once. Most, if not all of them, probably don't know more than a purely functional level of English, and don't bother saying anything that isn't something that they could get fired for ignoring. (This one is actually completely serious. I've yet to have a live chat support session that wasn't like this to the letter).

3) If you're getting an error message that the EA servers are down when you try to connect to them when starting up ME3 (or just its demo), you should try restarting Origin; that fixed it for me where restarting the demo did nothing.

1) The only way to play any Origin game in "offline" mode is to first log in to Origin, then go offline, and then physically disconnect from the internet. This should also allow you to re-start Origin in offline mode in future.

2) For people with limited internet access, you can copy files from a partial download in the Downloaded Games directory to another machine with Origin installed and continue the download there. It is important to pause the download on the machine that is the faster internet surorgate machine, before it reaches the install phase. Copy the files back again to the machine with limited access and complete the download and install on it.

3) While Origin only currently scans its own install and Downloaded Games directory structures, it is important to note that the Origin EULA still allows for EA to collect any data they deem neccessary. EA also reserves the right to change the EULA if and when they see fit.

4) The Origin website is region and/or country specific. Remember this when you wish to link to it. Linking to www.origin.com should re-direct any user to their local version.

According to EA support you can block Origin's auto-patching (if you need to for reasons like data-caps or not wanting the latest patch for gameplay/technical reasons) by editing the Hosts file as you would for other software like Adobe Acrobat - there's instructions for how to do that here

1.) Don't use Origin.
