Are you using a talon 1? This gun needs close range and more levels.

Talon III. What exactly are the benefits of an upgraded talon over a normal shotgun though? Seemed like a weaker shotgun to me when I used it.

Talon has higher dps then most shotguns, but worse range because u cant put an accuracy mod on it.

Are you expecting some kind of official list? These ratings are simply my opinion, based on my experience. If you dont agree with them you dont have to.

As for Gold tier 1 guns: Widow, Black Widow, Carniflex, Graal, GPS, Vindicator, Paladin (weight?)

The Vindicator is a must tier 1 as its very effective on Gold and is slightly stronger than the Mattock. Might have missed a gun or 2.

I moved the GPS from a 9 to a 9.5, it is one of the best guns in the game.

If you would like to undermine his thread provide hard numbers combined with gameplay videos to demonstrate how the weapon ratings could be made more accurate.

on topic about the valiant and BW for infiltrators: The extra damage bonus window extends for somewhere around 2 seconds after the first shot (I believe, not solid numbers). I easily squeeze all three valiant rounds into this window and the relatively low weight allows me to pop a second clip with that ultra-fast reload and be cloaked in time for the third.

Whether or not you agree with his list is irrelevant, this is actually a good representation of what the more successful people use on Gold.  The fact is, the Shiruken *IS* a piece of poop, and the Widow/GPS are amazing.  He just put the general consensus in an easy to digest format, and a lot of people have this particular thread bookmarked as reference.

You can argue small rating changes (1-1.5 points) based on upgrade level and personal preference, but if you're pimping a Phaeston or Arc Pistol, or using a sniper rifle as an Adept/Vanguard, no one will want to group with you in Gold games.

Actually for a Vanguard, it does make them bad.  If that had been an Adept with unlucky unlocks (say, got a Viper X but only has a low level Phalanx or carnifex) then I'd understand, but an Asari Vanguard should be using a shotgun or heavy pistol to put them as close as possible to 100%.  No amount of quickscoping will work at point-blank range when you need instant headshots.  I bet they have a Katana at a decent level if they are doing gold; that is a preferable option.  Just because it technically works does not mean a Vanguard wielding a sniper rifle is reasonable, nor competitive in comparison to an equally skilled vanguard with a better weapon setup.

Not necessarily. I mean a Mantis X can be pretty light, and its not too hard to get. So for an Asari Vanguard with Stasis, i can see it being reasonable.

Interesting facts:

-The paladin heavy pistol hits harder then the saber assault rifle per shot and reloads faster, but has a smaller clip and is slightly less accurate.

-The talon pistol is actually the highest dps shotgun (excluding possibly the Geth Plasma Shotgun, Claymore, and Graal), but with the caveat that you cannot put an accuracy mod on pistols and so it becomes really bad at range. It is the most well balanced and strongest shotgun at close range due to its ample clip size (with the pistol clip enhancement), fast reload time, and high dps.

-The scorpion can be shot at the ground beneath enemies, and can cause massive area damage.

-Weapons with a high fire rate and low damage bullets tend to be terrible, partially due to how armor reduction is calculated in this game

-Automatic weapons tend to be the worst in the game
