I hope that happens. I'd really like one of those coffee makers that runs on the tears of fans.

He's not saying it'll fail financially. What OP is asking is what happens if the actual game sucks.
They'll make their money for this, but what will their fanbase do?

Same thing as Fable's. "Peter Molyeneux lies again!?!? I'm not buyi-... ooooo, Fable 3?!?! AWESOME!"

Again, it doesn't mean that much. Fanbases don't just evaporate, even after a disappointing sequel. Dragon Age 2 is pretty much hated on the internet, but it still was commercially successful and had its fans, same with Fable 3, and the audiences and critics for both games will return to check out the next games in those series.

You are basing your assumption on a very small percentage of actual players. On top of that it is only the complainers that get noticed. If we enjoy something "we" don't usually create posts about that.

The signal to noise ratio of liking versus complaining is very much in favor of complainers. This leads you to the fallacious assumption that everyone hates what Bioware is doing, which, in fact is quite the opposite. The vast majority of us and happy and don't feel the need to vocalise it.

It's a little bit like a customer service kiosk at a shop, no one goes there to thank them for what they do, or to compliment the staff. You get the people who want to complain and exchange their product or faulty good. That does not reflect the general wishes of the vast majority of people who are perfectly happy with the service and the product they brought.

Forums are just a platform that reinforces idiotic rants from people because they get attention for doing so.

I don't fully judge a company on past failures (or what I didn't like). If a game sounds interesting to me I will look into it and decide if I should buy it or not. If I went just solely off that they made a game that I didn't like so I am never going to buy another game from them again, I never would have gotten the GTA's from Vice City and up because I hated the original few on PS1. I probably not have gotten Mass Effect in the first place because I wasn't a huge fan of Dragon Age Origins. But this is just my opinion obviously.

Bioware will burn...
And for some fans, it will cost them a lot to recover their old prestige.

The people complaining are usually a minority of the fanbase. It's that way with every game.

They'll continue to voice their concerns while those who enjoy the game will mostly ignore these forums and play.   ME3 may alienate a few fans, but those same folks would've complained if the DLC had remained CE exclusive.   There simply is no pleasing everybody.

And take note: Dragon Age 2 was profitable.  DA2 has not hurt Bioware and we can tell ME3 won't be a repeat of that mess of a game.

1.5 million pre orders, plus people who just go out and buy the game. Combine that with the awesome reviews it is getting from almost every site and magazine. No way it's going to fail.

Judging from the rage in this forum TODAY particularly, what do you guys think the consequences bioware will receive from its fan if ME3 falls short of expectation(which seems to be the vibe here). Will the company goes bankrupt in the future because of fan desertion, or Bioware learning from its mistake and redeem itself(which is surprising since they didnt learn from DA2) or will they just ignore the problem and start another franchise?

One I doubt ME3 will fail. The fans now are just whining because they arent getting there way. Do you really think its fair to judge when they have not played the actual game yet.

Two how do you know the DA team hasnt listened to feedback. Both the DLC so far has been received well by most people and some of the things they plan for DA3 sounds pretty nice. Just curious how you can have knowledge on a game we know nothing about yet.

Seeing as it already went gold, I'm pretty sure they are fine

"Going gold" is a game industry term that means the game has been approved and sent to manufacturing. It does not mean it has sold a certain number of copies, as it does in the music industry.

It won't fail....
but we're talking about EA here.
The expect this to sell more than the bible.
It won't fail like people expect but it wont suceed either.
The fanbase isn't nearly big enough to meet EA's large $$.
Bioware will be fully merged into EA and lots of layoffs will be given.
Those left standing will either quit or just join EA proper.
And looking at the past that will just be another day in the office for EA.

Uh, yeah. Pretty sure they'll land on their feet, dude.

You're reaching reeeaaally hard if you're trying to suggest otherwise. Bioware appears to be doing just fine, Chicken Little.

Well said.  I often wonder how developers filter that signal to noise and actually get a good "pulse" of how their game is recieved:  sales, obviously, are a huge factor, but I imagine critical reviews and focus groups probably play into their quality assessments significantly.  If they assessed the quality of their games solely based on forum reception: well I think they may be compelled to commit ritual suicide.

I say this with a serious face. Since when is there NOT a negative vibe here?

Anyone participating here has to take any vibe with a grain of salt, the vast minority (of total fans) post here and an even smaller group does the trolling and whining.

People are just drawn to the angst, it's human nature.

The true "vibe" will be post-launch when the public reacts to the game.

So, out of curiosity, what exactly do you mean that they "didn't learn from DA2?" I don't deny (nor do many people) that DA2 was certainly flawed, and I'm not about to list what I did or didn't like about it. ...But there isn't a DA3 yet, so how do you, or anyone else, know if they learned from DA2 yet?

Aaaaaaand, to stay on topic, ME3 really isn't going to fail. Not in areas of sales and profit, and certainly not in areas of critic scores. Most fans will love it, many will laud it as the best of the series, while others will claim the first or second one was best--just like with any series. And then a few--a very loud and obnoxious few--will claim it was Bioware's lowest point ever, that they weren't given enough of [feature A] and too much of [feature B], and that all future preorders have been canceled. ...And then they will continue to say the same thing, over and over again in various topics, as new games get announced and released.

BSN... BSN never changes...<_<

They write it off as a net loss at the end of the year and lose some fans? What do you folks think will happen? Their staff will commit seppuku, while Christ Prestly is executed by the CEO of EA, and their building torched? At this rate I'm rather confident they'll recover their expenses even if the game sucks, but that is the pessimistic outlook.

Over all I'll bet money it sells well they have good profits and the universe will continue. Now if they could only save the dragon age series.

Bioware is part of EA, and I don't see them running out of money anytime soon.
