DA2 and TOR already failed.

This might sell decently at first. If it's as bad as it seems, it'll die out really quickly.

I don't think TOR has failed yet. It's bleeding players badly but it could always FTP and turn things around.

Compared to other main MMO's out there, it has failed.

I'm hearing that out of 80 EU servers around 5 are active on a Saturday evening.

You're true about the FTP comment. Are there any clues about them going that way?

Also, regarding your previous comment, I think they'll keep on milking the ME franchise. They won't go for a new IP.

actually there's a huge rumor that Bioware is gonna make Baldur's Gate HD

Well they will go on. DA2 kind of failed but still was a financial succeess what I hear. ME3 has 1 million preorders already and probably also be at least financial successfully and they have SWTOR which seems to run healthily. If they keep up like that they will be like Blizzard and maybe/hopefully some day have the luxury of making games without having to cut corners.

It's closer to 2 million. But Skyrim did way better than that as did FFXIII

TOR is not even comparable to WoW. TOR has more sales than subscribers after a very short time.

Have to say I have not played SWTOR yet because of what I hear it is pretty much a single player game just in an online world. Lots of actual MMO content missing etc. And I am not going to pay 15 bucks per month for a single player game. That's probably the main problem SWTOR does have and I hope they are going to fix it and bring the game back on track.

Anyway, according to what people said about Secret World. I was in the hype for AoC and I know where it ended. Problem was that Funcom didn't stick to promises and neglected/ignored the fanbase for the most part 'doing their own thing' and failed to excite their fans on every turn with every of their 'awesome' new feats. I wouldn't trust this company to do anything than another cash grab attempt tbh. But then again I am a hugely disappointed ex-customer. So I may sure as hell be biased towards Nofuncom.

from what i heard TOR is in a bad condition, lots players left cuz the bad endgame and pvp, hope it got better, they can go FTP but doesnt that mean the game has failed hard?

Well that's usually how it is. Blizzard is developing a game exactly for F2P (free to play) so theres that. Old Republic's dev team thought "story" would actually make it something special. I admit its great for questing but then you realize ONLY your class quests are unique everything else you'll see on your other characters which doesn't help. The voice acting clearly took priority over say endgame content. Crafting especially which is what I was excited for turned out to be worse than WoW's yes I'm serious I never thought I'd see a more boring crafting system.

No not Bioware, Beamdog. The same people who remastered MDK2.

Isn't it confirmed?

So they're milking Baldur's Gate?

DC onlines revenue went up 1000% in the first week they went FTP and continued at around 700% after that (no recent figures may have been a short term boost but its still pretty impressive).

Yea but this is EA. EA doesn't have any free to play MMOs and they own quite a few.

Heh. Hate to break it to you, but DA2 was quite commercially successful. And ME3 will have very long legs due to the multiplayer, which has been getting rave reviews.

DA2 didn't even sell well compared to DA:O.

Thing is Origins took what 6-7 years to complete? DA2 took 18 months. It made just as much if not more money with a smaller schedule and budget.

If it fails-

-Bioware/EA blame negative reception on 'trolls'
-Nobody believes Bioware/EA bullsh*t and the game becomes even worse
-Bioware tries to make it "better" by over-saturating it with over-priced DLC
-More negative reception
-EA gives up on Bioware and lets it crash and burn by the time that command & conquer game is out, EA just sucks the life out of another successful company and repeats the process.

no one knows, it IS confirmed that the Baldur's Gate Complete Edition is coming to Steam, and Trent Oster, one of the founding member of Bioware, creater of Eclipse Engine, recently released those words

<!-- February 28, 2012 -->
<!-- Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine -->

<!-- For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory. -->

<!-- And then... it returned. Better than it was before. -->

<!--
Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you
wish, Child of Bhaal... perhaps you will find a clue. But patience,
ah... patience would reveal it all. -->

That's also something people don't see when they compare Bioware to for example Bethesda. I mean look how long they develop their games. In that time frame Bioware releases 2 or 3 games.

And if it succeeds and breaths new life into the series?

I don't actually know why it would be good if the IP killed off. I am pissed because of DA2 but I like the universe/franchise as such. They have created a great world and it would be sad if we lost it. However, I for one wish DA3 would mostly ignore DA2 tbh. I also wish I could import save game info directly from DA:O to DA3 and let Hawke be Hawke without having to play DA2 again.

I don't know the finances. If you produce 3 games in the same time as someone else produces 1 game then, assuming they have the same costs per day etc., then you can sell half as many and still be more successful from a profit point of few. Of course more games also means more marketing which probably also something to consider. However, do we have numbers to base this assumption on? I mean that Bethesda is finacially more successful than Bioware?

The thing is however that DA:O cost Bioware around twice, or even three times as much money to develop then Origins did due the 5 years it took. Game budgets do account for salaries you have to pay btw.

I am pretty sure Origins sold twice as much as DA2, or close to that figure, so in the end the profit they gained compared to how much they spent was pretty much the same for both games.

I would like to make a plee for actual post game updates and patches as well as support. You dont have the best track record for it.

Take a page out of CDProjeckts' handbook, they do post game support right. Cant wait for the new Assassins of Kings game to come out.

I'd be inclined to revisit Jade Empire, especially after playing KOA with it's much more action based fighting system.

I would not touch a Hawke based DA3.

It also alienated the old fans from IP and failed to attract a new audience.

It made a profit, since the game had little development cost and due to advertising.
In the long run, I wouldn't call that a success.
