I came across this post on reddit, to quote:

So I have my own domain, and give out a different email address every time I sign up for something. If I go to blockbuster, it's "blockbuster@mydomain.net"; netflix gets "netflix@mydomain.net", and dragonage got "dragonage@mydomain.net". So when I get emails Like This , I have to assume BioWare has been giving out my info.

I check my email and sure enough as well, I'm seeing the same thing. More spam, spam of the same type to my email address under this account. Example: http://imgur.com/JKkMF

And others are reporting the same thing.

There's a community manager from BioWare in the thread on reddit, saying it is a virus on the computer or the sort. I personally did a full scan and nothing came up, I know I'm clean (hell I work in IT).

So... is anyone else seeing an increase in spam (or like from "Fun Girl") to their email account?

[EDIT] This is not for anyone who played DA it seems, but anyone with a BioWare account.

Someone here also brought up this link:
http://www.spiderfar...highest-bidder/

An official BioWare reply would be nice.

I just started getting spam sent to the address I used to register on the old Mass Effect boards (the pre Bioware Social ones). Haven't heard about another security breach unless I just missed it, or forgot about it, but I'm seeing the same spam you mentioned.

Edit: just checked, I had about a dozen of presumably the same spam yesterday, but most of them were rejected.  I've disabled the address now since once you find yourself on a spammer's list...

Yeah, I just started getting spam too. No virus here either (I'm using mac + did a virus scan). It's the same "Fun Girl" -spam Zenoxio gets.

I thought I was spam free. Then I remembered Gmail has a filter and checked my spam folder. There were five messages from "Fun Girl" waiting there. How entertaining. -.-

I did get one e-mail from her too, as a matter of fact. I just chalked it up to the odd couple of spam messages I get everyday, deleted it, and moved on.

Pretty much this, except I got four or five of them.

I just checked my Hotmail, which is not used with any BioWare stuff. No new spam or the sort.

yep 3rd mail of "fun girl" has been sent to my bioware-mailaddress. I use this address just for the bioware-account and store. I never registered on any forums or whatever with it...

EA is selling your emails to interested parties via Origin.

What you do is:

Make a "spambox" email account, and register all products and services (most especially social networking) through that.

What no way! Is there someone at Bioware who can confirm this?

Facebook (especially Facebook), Google, and numerous others all do this. It's how they make the $$.

A started getting the "fun girl" spam a few days ago. I get 3-5 messages from "her" a day. Googling led me here. It's very annoying, I hope Bioware/EA can/will do something to stop this.

Three possibilities:

1) Normal spam, unrelated to BioWare (unlikely with so many reports)
2) A BioWare server has been compromised and a list of email addresses of users (and probably other info) has been stolen.
3) BioWare is selling our info.

There is nothing BioWare can do now. Our email addresses are out there [to spammers] now and it's not like BioWare can "steal" them back.

Yeah, I've been getting tons of spam like that ever since I signed up for this account. It's definitely annoying, but thankfully my email client filters all of them out into my junk mail folder, all I have to do is delete its contents every once in a while.

If these things start getting past that filter, I'll get a new email address.

Do you understand how spam works? Go open the mail headers of the spam you get. Check every one. Each mail server that sent the spam is different. I checked all my "Fun Girl" spam messages and every one comes from a different source.

You want BioWare to spend the time and money trying to track down every server involved in this? Do you understand how long that would take? And how long the court process takes, especially for servers outside the US? It would probably take at least a year to even get anywhere.

Hey, I personally started getting these "Fun Girl" messages like a day ago, and a quick Google search brought me here. Perhaps this is related to the old BioWare Forums which got hacked and removed, as mentioned? Like that data with email adresses being sold to spammers or something. Great fun anyways, I've been spam-free until now.
