Honestly, the change of the tone of the endings from ME 1 and ME 2 to ME 3 are so jarring it's insane.

I really like ME3 it is a lot darker and judging from the demo its gonna blow ME 1 and 2 out of the water.
The same thing (about "being darker") was said about ME2 and to be honest it was a "darker" in a way how 12 years old teen considers "dark". Judging from those endings, here it will be the same.

W40k is dark, yes. But it is also brutal and epic.
ME3 is just being melodramatic and depressing.

Hey OP, how dare you compare the melodramatic piece of crap ending of ME3 with the awesome Warhammer 40k?

It's pretty much accepted that ME is a Soap Opera series.

Dark and brutal would have been KOTOR2 had Obsidian been able to finish it in the manner they wanted.

Its only a few years later when people finally realize that the emperor had no clothes.

To be fair, I think Evangelion was based on the director or main writer's experiences dealing with chronic depression. It becomes more interesting when you think about it from that psychological positition.ManyDeadCats wrote...
Ever watched Evangelion? When your storytelling is genuinely crap and you've written yourself into a corner, the least painful way to get out of it is to write a cryptic, abrupt apocalyptic ending and then leave it to the fans to explain it away while you bask in their money.

The end of ME3 sounds similar to the beginning of WH40k.
Well, sounds similar to the Age of Strife and/or the post-Horus Heresy time, indeed.

If you want a pleasant, all happy ending, go read a fairy tale.
We have a war with the Reapers here, not a walk in the sunny forest.
If it wasn't dramatic, that would be awful for a thread this big.
Because that would say: Here, that's it, it didn't really matter to do sacrifices in order to achieve victory as the enemy posed no real threat and could be defeated with a slingshot.
