I happen to quite like playing my human engineer. I'm happy with the combat drone, and i like being able to deal with most defenses through spammage of overload and incinerate. Having just unlocked the quarian engineer, I'd like to get people's thoughts comparing the Combat Drone with the Sentry Turret.

I personally prefer the Combat Drone with rockets, it's mobile and helps provide a good distraction, racks quite up a few kills on Silver as well if you remember to keep it around.

Not tried the Sentry Turret much tho, I've heard it's only worth using once it has the Flamethrower upgrade, but once you have that it becomes a beast.

The Engineer was the first class I maxed out (and I enjoyed every minute of it), I felt the drone was a highly useful and versatile tool, it can be handy in a handful of situations, and seeing as how the Engineer class is geared to more of a support role over a MOW, MOVE, Reload, MOW role, this combat drone STRONGLY assist in that.

First off, It's one more friendly object in the field, that means there will be one or two enemies who take offense to it, and put rounds on it. This is two less people shooting at you and your team. So it can serve a defensive purpose as well.

Secondly, It has a good role of person and team based flank coverage, many times my drone, placed properly has saved my ass when I hear it firing at troopers moving up on my flank, at which point, I notify my teamates, and fall back to start laying down overload and incinerate on targets so the damage dealers can easily drop the squad.

Thirdly, the rocket. While it doesn't deal massive amounts of damage, it is still damage. I feel the rockets main purpose is not a damage dealer, but more of an aggro grabber, and this function has helped me in the field quite a bit. Especially with guardians. I've even gottan some drone kills on weak atlas before, heh.

Now, the sentry turret. It's biggest weaknesses are that it is non-mobile, and doesn't deal as much damage, therefore it is not as effective of doing relevant damage or getting aggro, meaning it's uses, even with the flamethrower are a little more limited compared to the drone.

Overall, I'd have to say the drone is the most useful of the two. His mobility and versatility are way more useful to you and your team than that tiny little pea sprayer they call a Sentry turret.

Plius, the Drone occassionally speaks, which gives it a sort of personality. Which I like. She feels like a pet. I call mine Shiela. :P

Without a doubt, the combat drone is superior to the turret, mostly due to its mobility, but really, not by much. At best, it's a temporary cc that may or may not be that useful, depending on the type of enemies you are facing, plus difficulty. In all honesty, the Quarian engineer has more serious problems than her turret (aka lack of overload). Just go for the flamethrower upgrade and call it a day.

Combat drone wins on mobility, but the flamethrower Turret is a thing of beauty. Any non-phantom enemy hit by it starts flailing around, leaving them wide open to being shot. And with the anti-armor upgrade, it actually does decent damage vs. shields and armor, making it great for chucking at an enemy turret.

I also have massive problems getting my drone to spawn anywhere that's not right next to me. Whereas I get to chuck the turret like a grenade, allowing me to put it up a lot more consistently.

I prefer the Turret over the Drone since it is easier to place exactly where you want it to distract enemies. The Drone usually floats somewhere out of LoS and fires his Missile at a wall. 90% of the time when you call the Drone it only gets placed in Front of you instead of where the Crosshair points. I don't like that.

On the other side: The Human Engi is better than the Quarian especially on Silver/Gold due to Overload, but that might only be the case in the Demo since there are only Enemies with Shields instead of Armor.

TL DR: Turret>Drone, but Human>Quarian for me

The drone can be quite lazy and float around aimlessly while I'm under fire. It needs micro managed to be effective. This is not necessarily a problem unless you are used to the drone of me2 that was more pro-active. As someone else pointed out in an earlier discussion the stationary nature of the turret can be used as an advantage as it can be relied upon to stay put. Overall they are both equally good but serve a different purpose. I'm looking forward to the single player when I will have both at my disposal.

I'd say the drone (and I've fully leveled the HE's drone and the QE's turret) in most cases.

DRONE:
+ Mobile and can follow enemies around.
+ Can take quite a bit of damage when fully leveled up.
+ Can distract enemies.
+ Rockets do a fair amount of damage, plus it stuns enemies with electricity.
+ Excellent to have if you don't have a full four-person team (ex: it helps my wife and I out enormously, since we play as a two-person team).
- Being mobile means it can sometimes wander off and attack the wrong enemies.
- Not a good way to trap an enemy.

TURRET:
+ Flamethrower capability when full leveled can do a tremendous amount of damage very quickly if positioned in tight areas.
+ Could potentially freeze enemies or get a bonus to doing armor damage.
+ Good as a trap.
- Not mobile at all, so it stays wherever you tossed it.
- Tends to bounce off walls and objects when first thrown, so it may not land where you originally wanted it.
- Doesn't seem to be nearly as tough as the Drone, so it dies quickly.

The turret can be used to flank as well if you aim it properly. I often throw it behind a guardian to roast him from behind.

Flanking means move. Throwing if not flanking. Turrets are great at choke points but not for open field. I would prefer to get a sentry gun like Cerberus engineers thought.
Level 1
Standard damage increase
Level 2
Standard health increase
Level 3
Standard Cooldown reduction
Level 4
Increase fire rate or Increase HPs
Level 5
Add damage bonus or Add Shield
Level 6
Add Flame Thrower or add 4 sec continuous fire burst
