What is this VPN stuff? Is there a reason we won't be able to play our games if we are lucky enough to receive them tomorrow?
Im dont all the techy stuff but i think VPN(Virtual Private Network) Lets you hide what country your in and also you make somethin believe your in another country when your Not.
So folks used it when a launch in Japan on Monday and have been playing ever since. Apparently it happen to Battlefield 3, that many people used it they just opened the game up to everyone who had the digital version. Before release day.
The PC version maybe locked like the Digital version anyways so when you install you may not beable to play till friday anyways.

If anybody is interested, I just checked my play.com account and the CE was marked as dispatched (gives the date as yesterday, which I think is wrong since it was still listed as "processing" today) - kind of odd since I didn't get a dispatch email like I normally do.
Yeah what's with this? I got it too and I think many others have too. Well atleast if it actually was dispatched yesterday theres a chance it might come tommorow:wizard:

I hate to do this but Amazon just emailed me saying that they don't even have the stock yet, they expect to get it tomorrow and get my game to me on Friday, but if I don't recieve a dispatch email by Friday to contact them and they will look into it. I was happier not knowing that...VampireCommando wrote...

Ah I see. Thanks for the info. Sounds like too much hard work to me, I'm working all day anyway so playing it on Friday night will be plenty good enough for me! I just hope it arrives by then. Also, I checked on Royal Mail, and apparently the standard parcel service (which I presume is the one play.com will use for the CE) delivers on Saturdays too. Hopefully that'll be irrelevant, though!

Same here, PC games didn't even have a shelf, just a wrack hidden away in a darkened corner. The only PC game I bought in there was Football Manager and I still got asked the question. I replied...RTNs wrote...

the Game shop in Newry use to be good when it opened had a big 6ft plus bauld fella who really knew his stuff.
he was there for years. but as soon as he left (think cause they didn't promote him from ass-manager) it went down hill fast. never seems to keep staff or managers. stopped getting my PC games. and switched to amazon.
heck mind that game APB that went bust a while back they were still selling it in GAME weeks after it servers were shutdown
Alot of people went to GAME because there was a gorgeous blonde working in it, their troubles really started when she left. GAME really did nothing to stop themselves getting into this mess, they weren't even trying to be competitive. Their staff never seemed to have a clue about games either.
In Gamestop you could go in and have a chat about games with the staff while you browsed and they were all gamers too. They must have done a ton of business with people going in for a chat and leaving with a pre-order or a game. Though you could always see the pitch coming, it was amazing how often it worked on people as you stood watching.
LoL:lol:
only thing I didn't like about gamestop is they have a very limited PC stock. specially Indi-releases. oh and the are you sure this will run on your system before every sale.no i'm buying it sit me Tea on:D

The reason people are getting told multiple different things is because no one is really sure what's going on. It's safe to say people are cancelling preorders prematurely my guide dispatched about 20mins ago. we're not even supposed to have the game until friday and we're already complaining because we don't think it will get here on time. What a nightmare these companies must be having.
No point really just reflecting out loud. Honestly though I think we all need to have a little more faith, the Game incident was a hideous disaster but think positively, we'll all be play ME3 before we know it

I actually had an interview for GAME a couple of years back. In the end I declined the position as I didn't think I'd have enjoyed the role, it seemed far too sales-focussed. I understood that they are in business to make money, but didn't agree with their methods - forcing items and accessories on customers and chastising staff members who didn't flog x number of the title they wanted to shift. I actually explained I'd rather use a sales through service approach - that is, securing future business by offering exemplary service, and selling customers the best thing for them (not the company). That left my interviewer puzzled, now I begin to see why...
Yeah, as a company they really were obsessed with the hard sell. I think the basic problem they had was that they were so sales focused that lost the specialist knowledge that a specialist retailer should really have. There were more bothered about pressuring their staff into selling hundreds of extras rather than training them with the kind of expert knowledge you'd expect from specialists.
'Course, it didn't help that the middle/upper management didn't have the slightest idea of how to sell games in a world of internet dealers and Steam. They're hopeless.

Pretty much. At the end of the day, the game isn't even released until friday, so in that context you have to wonder whether it actually means anything if it gets dispatched either tonight or tomorrow.
Hell, I won't even be able to play it until Sunday no matter when it arrives, I'm away all weekend

I would have to say if you order the PC CE or PC SE as it uses Origin, i would assume when you installed it you'll find it will still be locked till friday anyways.

Yeap. A friend installed it but it's locked via Origin until Friday.

I think people are putting too much confidence in the phone monkeys (call centre operators) being infallible. I don't mean any disrespect having been a phone monkey myself but from personal experience for every 1 person who knows what they're talking about there are 20 who are not only complete incompetents but don't give a rats arse.

Fair comment. I've been consoling myself with the knowledge that their customer service is on another continent(couldn't figure out the girls accent on the phone, sounded like someone from Asia pretending to be American) so whats the chances of them being in the loop at all?

For years GAME here had the same staff but they all disapeared in a fairly short space of time and since then the staff turnover has been ridiculous. No one seems to last more than a couple of months. I've been told that staff can't take the pressure, which is an amazing thing to hear in a retail outlet. They are under constant pressure to throw in extra stuff when making sales and people are refusing to buy it in this financial climate. Then management comes down on the staff that aren't able to make the extra sales. It sounds like a terrible environment to work in.JaegerBane wrote...

It was when I left. I worked in the same shop for year and a half when I was a student, had a good manager and it was a right laugh. Then I moved to a new shop, and I quit in the space of 3 months. Anything that went wrong, it was the staff's fault. The increasingly crazy targets were missed, it was the staff's fault. The manager even expected me to bunk off lectures to do extra hours, they just haven't got a grip on reality. No wonder the staff seem so demotivated.
That's all academic now, though. The company deserves everything they get.
