Hi there!
I just checked a topic on NVidia Optimus but I don't personally feel that's the end of solution.
http://social.biowar.../index/9478245/

I have pre-ordered the game [as I intended too], but I don't want this problem to occur in the full release. Because I'm thinking of playing this game while roaming around :) Gonna keep me busy whole March.

I first installed the demo on my desktop because I had played all the ME series on it, as for whole series ME uses Modified Unreal Engine on DX9 which runs very smoothly on my desktop.I'm get avg fps of 59, with all settings high, even AA.

The game lags a lot on my laptop. I get an average fps of 30-35. It's funny to see that my desktop over performs my laptop even though my laptop has pretty updated config.

I use the latest graphics drivers on nvidia.
I force using the GT 540M for ME3 demo in control panel and Have checked that ME3 is using the graphic card and not the sloppy intel HD.

My desktop config is:
Quad Core Q8200 @ 2.4Ghz
4GB DDR2 @800MHz
MSI Platinum MB
NV GTS 250 512MB

My Acer 5742G laptop config is:
Core i5 480M
Nv GT 540M 1GB
4GB DDR3

Please Assist on this.

Thanks in advance.

P.S.: Don't put an excuse that my GT 540M executes with DX11 :D and due to that the game lags.

It's a laptop. It isn't supported for any official tech assistance because the manufacturers tend to shortchange cooling and won't agree to standardize video specifications. That being true, it's generally agreed that Asus and Toshiba do a better job when it comes to games-capable mobile hardware.

Might have to select performance mode for the laptop instead of balanced/energy save mode or whatever. Also cooling as mentioned is almost always an issue on laptops.

Just because it's a laptop, it doesn't mean it won't run games at HQ. I have played Skyrim, LA Noire, and GTA EFLC, and haven't find any problem with them.

If i'm buying GT540M then It would almost give the same performance on any other laptop of any brand. Your missing the point, The better the config, the better the stability of the system.

If it's a laptop then why companies are giving out such configs.Ofcourse people want to work on heavy duty graphics and coding and that doesn't means that games won't run at optimal level.

I have set the adequate performance mode.

Let me rephrase the situation:
The problem with the game is the incompatibility towards"Nvidia Optimus". I don't know why, although it's running, but not running smoothly, as it's supposed too.

If a video card has Optimus it means that it only uses the dedicated video card when it needs it and everything else runs with integrated graphics to extend battery life.

Neither origin or the me3 demo default to use the dedicated video card, so you need to either right click on it and specify which you want it to run with every time or change the default setting for them. Both of those options are in the "run with graphics processor" menu after you right click on it.

Changing origin alone did not solve the problem for me, I had to change the setting for the demo also, I'm not sure if changing which origin uses will do anything at all.

Also the control panel for setting the default is the same regardless of what program your right click on to open it so you wont need to make a shortcut if you don't have one made.

I think the .exe I changed the settings on was in this folder I may have done it with my desktop shortcut but it goes to the same location.
C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Origin Games\\Mass Effect 3 Demo\\Binaries\\Win32

What captainrob said. I did all of that...well, let's just say that Optimus is a stinking pile of utter crap that fails HARD outside of NVidia's clean, standard developer computers.

Oh, and they apparently have no concept of customer support/service whatsoever.

Even after having to change the BIOS on my laptop to actually enable the gfx card to be used (just...wow), my comp STILL doesn't actually listen to the specific settings I set it to. PhysX is still being used by the CPU (aka the integrated graphics) and not the GPU, even though NVidia's tray icon tells me it's running the demo (which may be true, but the PhysX is also true for certain).

Sigh.

I had the same problem on my laptop, but I just select ME2/3 to run using the Nvidia card and it runs like a dream.

Paula that's exactly what I did and what happened with me too.

Captainrob, even I did all what I can do [even what you have told]. The thing is, Bioware gotta change the code which accordingly uses the GPU. I play Skyrim on my laptop, and it works so smoothly.

Skyrim shares nothing at all with any of the ME games, and thus, has no relevance. For a great many reasons, nVIDIA is not focusing on PC gaming any more. They cannot be, or they will not survive as a company. Optimus is a cheat and a scam, badly designed to save costs, and with poor quality control.

I'm playing the demo on an Alienware M14x and it's cosiderably more powerful
quadcore i7-2670QM @ 2.2 ghz
nv GT 1.5g 555m
6g ram

Before I made those changes it was running the demo smooth and had good texturing, but the shadow quality was really bad.  The integrated graphics that come with the 2670QM are supposed to be pretty powerful.  After the changes I have had no problems with it at all.

If the cpu is still trying to handle part of the graphics its possible that the dual core cpus are having problems that dont show up with quadcore systems because of multitasking capabilities.

I don't know the specs for the different i5 cpus but I think LoMoRoMel's laptop should be able to meet the minimum requirements on the vast majority of games out right now.  Most new games don't require more than a 2.4Ghz dual core and a 512mb deticated card and if I remember right the requirements on me3 were lower than that.

There might be more settings that can be changed to help with the problems.  I will admit that the Optimus system isnt very user friendly especialy if you aren't very good with computers.  I don't really know how it works past what I posted earlier so we might need someone who actually knows how it all works to help.

Also Skyrim on pc is a Steam game and Steam defaults to the right gpu  and sets everything installed through it to run using the deticated card from what I have seen, unfortunitly Origin does not.

Nvidia optimus is not supposed to be use friendly. It is supposed to be handled by programmer.

Like I said before, my laptop config is supposed to handle game with more stability. Well the config is not the issue of concern. The concern is "Nvidia Optimus compatibity".

many people are going be annoyed if they don't make it compatible.
