Anyone else waiting until reviews are out before getting this?

Why wait? This is a game i've wanted to play since completing Mass Effect. It's not something i'll let somebody else decide on how much the experience is worth to me.

Any member of this forum who is 'waiting for reviews first' probably shouldn't be a member at all. If you care that little about the game, why not just play something else altogether?

Leave Mass Effect alone forever. And let those who want to experience it for themselves appreciate it for whatever it turns out to be to them.

Seriously, just leave, now.

First off, I don't get the hate for SWTOR, I have been playing mmo's for 12 years and I absolutely love the game.

Second, I can't believe anyone would take a metacritic score seriously.  It would probably be ok to look at the score of a lesser known title but any of the bigger titles are going to get blasted with 0's and 1's and 9's and 10's from people who either:
  • Hate or love the developer or publisher
  • Hate or love the genre but are fans of the games competition
  • Hate or love one console or another
  • Are just flat butthurt because of something
You could probably find an accurate review of Barbie's Horse Riding Adventure but that's about it.

I'm not sure which class/race you're talking about, but the expansions added WAY more content than anything that was already developed on release. Give me a break.

In Starcraft 1, three playable factions were included with the sale of the game: Protoss, Zerg and Terran
In Starcraft 2, one playable faction is included with the sale of the game: Terran. The Zerg and Protoss campaigns will now be labeled "expansions" and sold for $40 dollars each.

But of course this isn't a problem. No. $10 dlc is the problem. Image IPB

HEYHEYHEY

Blizzard is giving us a FULL campaign experience for those $40 sir.

Totally not ripping the fans off for more money. :pinched:

No they won't, the campaigns are bleck. And don't get me started on Diablo 3, where you spend REAL MONEY, like 5 dolla, for a magic sword. Honestly, people think DLC is bad, imagine paying out the nose just for an advanced bow.

In other news...Im waiting out 4 hours early for the midnight release.

from what i've seen so far, and my experience with previous games, i am going to love this game.
Day one collectors edition buy for me + Collectors edition strategy guide (and i already have the artbook) :)

Mass Effect is my favorite video game franchise, this is the one and only franchise for which i am willing to throw out my principles.

I always encourage people to be knowledgeable, responsible consumers. If you preordered because you love Mass Effect that much and know that you'll probably like it, then great! we thank you for your support and hope you're not disappointed.

I wish all BW employees were like you, Stanley. Compared to a few particular ones who post on the forums, you're always kind, respectable, and thankful of your fans. And I, in turn, respect you for that.

I'm still a little hopeful those leaked endings aren't the real thing. If it's real then yeah I wish I waited for reviews. The last Bioware game I pre-ordered was Dragon Age 2 and well...yeah. I wish I can forget that game ever existed (purely my opinion, no disrespect to those who liked it).

You're ignoring the fact that players can pay real money OR in-game money for those weapons, and that the same player will be able to sell items for real money. Sure, Blizzard gets a cut, but it's the PLAYERS who will be selling items for real cash.

I'm more displeased with the fact that Diablo III has no offline singleplayer.

Well, thank you for your permission. :P

it has nothing to do with permission. Sometimes, when people get really passionate about something, they begin to lose perspective. Especially here in the forums, this lack of perspective translates to people becoming defensive and drawing very stark lines between those who agree with them and "the enemy."

This is so true and useful to be aware of. Thanks for spreading it around! :)

Metacritic does aggregation of both user and site reviews. You are talking about user scores. The site aggregation is generally pretty good. If you are looking at Metacritic user reviews, you are using Metacritic wrong.

I bought some Amazon gifts cards for my self and I added them to my amazon account so the game is paid for just waiting for it to ship. Also I am having a blast playing The Old Republic.

Nope. I've invested too much time into this series not to see it through. I've wanted to see the end since repeatedly finishing ME1 back in 2008 (PC gamer, only console we have is a Wii).

Tragically, ME3 is releasing right at the beginning of my in-laws' vacation down here, so play time will be minimal for a bit.

Pre-ordered SW:TOR a couple of months in advance and don't regret a thing, I love it. DA3 is the only one I can think of that may not make that list unless I'm convinced it's more like DAO (not that I didn't enjoy DA2, mind you).

No. I am not waiting for reviews to get the day 1 DLC. It's $10. That's two lattes I won't get this week. Big deal.

That's not 100% accurate. It's to stop the ebay selling and to make sure Blizzard get a cut of anything sold not Ebay.

Is this a joke? Why would I need reviews to buy a Mass Effect game?

I'm as loyal a fan to ME as it gets and thus, I'm getting ME3 on day one.  HOWEVER, I'm will definitely be holding off on the Day one DLC.  First, it can't be integral to the story. Second, I trust you guys to tell me if it is worth the money.  Third, if I wait and get it later, it'll add replay value for me.

The reviews will all give the game 8-9/10 because that;s what all big games with massive marketing budgets get.

The reviews I'm interested in are the commenter's posts here, at Eurogamer and Joystiq. From people that pay for games and play them for pleasure. Not from web sites and magazines who wouldn't exist if it weren't for the massive marketing budgets.

TBH Bioware and EA know this game is going to sell millions and millions, they don't have to try that hard to make it that good. If you hook a massive player base with the first iteration of a franchise, you can let standards drop for the sequels. People are going to buy anyway because they want to see the end of the story and how choices made in previous games will effect the outcome.

ME and DA make me think the only Bioware games worth buying are their original IP launches. I hope their next game set in the ME universe is as good as ME and DA were, and not the steamlined rubbish of ME2 and DA2.
