Are they ever likely to impliment new weapon types which weren't in the original two games like light/heavy machineguns or even miniguns?

No. But the existing weapon types might have special characteristics. There's a pistol that's a grenade launcher. And another pistol (or was it assault rifle?) that's a mini-arc projector.

Well, the Revenant IS a light machinegun. And i think i saw something that looked like a minigun in the weapons thread in the genreal discussion forum (as a heavy weapon). But as new weapons types? No, they put them in the existing categories.
