What class will you choose for your first playthrough?

Personally I haven’t decided yet.
For my first ME 3 playthrough I’d like to choose with a high “versatility”; capable to counter any threat found on the battlefields.

I know there are squad members to “balance” our class but under a “narrative point of view” I’d want my Shepard to show the Reapers they are fighting against the most powerful opponent they can encounter.

So far the candidates for my first playthrough are:

Soldier:

A classic for a Military Science Fiction videogame. The wide array of ammo powers should be able to counter most types of enemies; guardians can be killed with well placed sniper rifle’s rounds and grenades could be of some use against phantoms-like enemies.

Adept:

From my personal demo multiplayer experience I can say stasis is one of the most deadly efficient biotic powers in the entire game: it leave most enemies helpless against your attacks; including guardians and phantoms. In the demo co-op stasis proved to be the best anti-phantoms power.

Besides, if I’m not mistaken, we can start the game at level 30 by importing a max level ME 2 character, thus stasis will be available since the very beginning.

There is only one drawback I can think about: if we want to keep your cool down times low we’ll have to carry just one or two weapons, possibly one, and this game has a huge number of nice weapons.

Engineer:

The combat drone/sentinel turret combo should greatly increase Shepard’s firepower.
This class has also powers to deal with every kind of defense (except for specific anti-biotic barriers powers, even though overload still deals damage to them) and the mentioned drone is very useful against guardians.
Spawn it behind the guardian and he will eventually expose his less armored side to you.

The drone can also distract phantoms but it’s not as efficient as stasis. Overload worked against phantoms in several occasions during co-op play.

What do you think? Your comments are very appreciated.

Vanguard (Ash romance), I do have like 6 other chars ready to go but if what we've heard so far is true, none of them will be played if there is nothing different to see.

Sentinel or Adept. Probably Sentinel since Overload is more useful than Singularity. Vanguard is too easy/boring now to be fun for me.

Well it depends on your definition of powerfull, in the classic military sense you should opt for this steryotypes Rambo (Soldier), Berserker (Vanguard) or my personal choice Commando (infiltrator). Looking at the story i think the infiltrator fits best as a leader of such an assymetrical war effort mixing both muscle and brains.

If you prefer the Godlike aproach to power sentinel would be the only choice.

If you prefer the clever aproach to power id go with sentinel more than engineer since the heavy armor and power variation seem more suited to a commander than the ability to place turrets and is probably the most versatile.

Well in the end I'd like to put emphasis on "versatility": A Shepard able to deal with every, or most, enemies.

I'm only concerned about the cool down times. In the demo, when you have a lot of weapons, the cool down is so long to make the use of powers very sporadic. That's why I thought about "pure" classes.
It's possible that in the full game with the powers evolution and  mods the weapons' weight could be reduce to the point the cool down will become "acceptable".

After the changes and trying the MP I'm going either a Vanguard or Adept.

I don't really care about changing classes on my "canon" Shepard (female, Soldier for ME1, Sentinel for ME2). I don't want to do a sentinel again just because I just finished that playthrough recently in ME2. I've played through all the classes on the demo, and I'm down to Soldier or Infiltrator.

Which would you guys recommend?

Well based off my multiplayer experience, I am probably going to run an Adept, with either 1 or 2 guns. heavy pistol for sure and maybe a SMG if I can get as light as I did in multi and it's weight not affect my CDs. There is just something fun about throwing out singularity+warp explosions.

Not many seem to be into it, and hopefully it hasn't changed too much, but Infiltrator all the way! -excuse to use sniper rifle-

Soldier, because that is the class i am already in the Save from ME2 i like to Import. (i did not change class on Imported Saves from ME1 -> ME2 so i wont when playing ME3)
The Second one will be one of my many other ME2-Saves, maybe one of the Renegade Vanguard's.

OP, Stasis IS NOT a core Adept power, it's a bonus power available to anyone. Useless against armored enemies like husks, as well.

I'll play my first ME1 character just like I did in ME2. He's a Vanguard and he's always gone first. He's made less than optimal choices but he did save everyone in ME2. I can't wait to see how he ends up.
