Eh, I don't see this as helping though.

And here we have part of the problem with this policy.  Where I'm from that's considered perfectly acceptable.

Have been away from the forums for a while (busy with this annoying, totally over-rated thing called "real life"), and only recently returned to lurking around due to the upcoming ME3 release.

Got to say that I for one, approve of the rule changes. Well stated negative opinions are fine, but there's no reason to lower yourself down to the level of personal insults. Hoperfully this'll tone down some of the excesses in the forums. Was very sorry to hear about the unfair and excessive attack on Hepler, and wish her the best, and hope she knows that she's got the support of many of us Bioware fans.

And how was it uncivil?

I wasn't referencing you about civility.

This is mostly a Western (US/Canada) site, and as such their social norms take precedent--we have laws against the type of thing you did. I think it's a given that any message board you take part of will default to their country's norms in terms of what's acceptable.

Well, with what I just read in the spoiler section, I have to say: Bioware, I believe this story about how the forum rule changes, particularly the lock out on accounts not older then a month, are not to cover your backsides come launch day to be as true as the following statements:

The Sun Rises in the West.
Anthrax is Good For You.
We're from the Government and We're Here to help.
The check is in the mail.

As I said, fanrage deflectors screens up, Bad game launch detected.

I hate censorship, but if there is something I hate even more, it is what BSN has become over the last couple of years. I really don't know what happened, but the place has become filled with disrespect for each other, senseless gratuitous aggression and overal a feeling of unpleasantness I have rarely seen in a community.

Therefore I approve. I will admit, BSN almost managed to disgust me with ME3 before its release. The negativity is that strong on these boards.

PS: people who spoil should be banned. Severely. I don't care if it's a big or tiny spoiler, they should be banned. Only way they will learn.

Even if the spoilers might cause some disappointment, there is no excuse for fan rage.  What good does screaming and crying do?

If you're disappointed with the game or the direction Bioware is going in, just express it politely and civilly.  No matter how much you paid for the game, you have no right to scream and rant and insult.

Some??? Some????  *Throws back curtain dramatically to reveal screaming mobs in the streets baying for blood with the city burning in the background.*

I think they've blown a gasket already and the new policy and the mod banhammer is going to get a workout before the fallout is finished, and frankly that is going to be like trying to put a fire out by pouring nitroglycerine on it.

Bioware, I have to ask: did you lay off your PR department?  Or forget to invite them to meetings?  This launch has been one bad PR decision after another.  I've been a loyal fan for more then a decade and this is painful to watch.

Well I'm out, if I can't complain I can't be honest, bye. It's been fun (for the most part). Some will say who are you, some will say good riddance. A mod will delete this anyway.

Sadly, I pretty much share this sentiment.  Bioware and I go way back, and I've been posting stuff on the forum for Stan to delete since he got here, and on the old forum since Baldur's Gate.

It's sad, and I know some will miss me, and some will cheer that I have gone.  I'm sad that I'll miss Stan eventually banning Dragonlordz, since we can all see the wrting on the wall for that one with this new policy.  The poor boy can't seem to not get up in your nose.

In the spirit of the new policy, I'm leaving Stan something.  Other mods, if you delete the post, at least do me the fav of passing the picture along for me.  I figure one of you will take offense and ban me, but I don't care anymore.  I told him back when the whole buisness with DA2 boiled out that I was going to make him one of these one day, and I figure that it's time to finish up any open buisness here at Bioware.

Me, I think it looks better then the little ninjas, and sends a lot clearer warning to the other posters.

Not exactly.  The impression I got was that the mods found them disturbing.

Having had a look at the new code of conduct, I was surprised these weren't rules already.

The rudest thing I do here is correct spelling and grammar. As long as that doesn't get me banned, I'm good.

I had an alternate idea of how to deal with people behaving badly on the internet.  Appearenrtly it was illegal in some parts of the US and horrified several posters.  And then I was baffled becasue it was perfectly legal and ... better then the alternatives here.

Didn't see what happened after my last deleted post, they were deleted before I got back.

Don't forget to vote with your wallet!

No ME3 for me, but that's OK cause ME2 pretty much bit it anyway, and the less said about DA2 the better
