These forums have had too much history of cliques ganging up on people to see this as anything but bad.
I'm all for Bioware defending it's own, but if this is an expansion of moderator powers to defend their friends then expect trouble.

I would like to encourage all of you who are on board with the new rules--and even someo f those who aren't--to help us out as we go forward with the BioWare Social Network. instead of just hitting the REPORT THIS POST button when you see trouble, take the time to message a Moderator or two and link them to the trouble also. That way, we get immediate reports of trouble and can get to them quickly. Lead by example, folks, and show the newbies what it means to be a member of the BioWare Social Network.
now I'm not talking about narcing on folks and tattling, but keep us informed if you see trouble or potential trouble in the threads you visit regularly. the more support we get from you guys, the less likely it'll be that we'll get overwhelmed and perhaps judge someone a little too harshly.
We do understand that people form friendships and little cliques and have their inside jokes and lightheartedly poke fun of each other, but if we don't understand something like that, we'll check. EternalAmbiguity gets poked quite often in one of the Off-Topic threads, but the second he comes to me and says he'd like it to stop or be toned down, we'll make sure it stops or gets toned down.
And don't worry, a ban here is only for the BioWare Social Network; it should have no connection with your game access. i don't even think we can do that here, and that only EA Community has that kind of ability.
So what is the point of the report this post feature then? Should you not repair it or create a new tab that can send you to the list of mods available at that current time so you can contact them?

But I have faith in the moderators and the staff to be able to point out a 'heated discussion' from obviously bashing, flaming, trolling etc...
I have high hopes that the future of the BSN, with this force applied, will be a better place. Alot of people - inlcuding me - let the anonymity and the freedom of speech get to their heads.

Though I respect the action taken, and I seriously believe the forum needs a good scare (if communities aren't well managed then things are bound to get out of control, especially with the internet) I'm afraid that mods and staff alike will take it to far, to the point where we'd spend half an hour trying to think of the 'right words.'

And that's a fair concern to have. Though I think that, by and large, we tend to be pretty receptive to feedback about moderation (unless it's of the WHY ARE YOU TURNING THIS FORUM INTO NORTH KOREA genre). By and large, most users won't notice a difference. As I said, we've been enforcing the 'no personal insults' rule for a while now, and all this really does is codify it. We want the BSN to be a place where people can interact and discuss our games with each other and with developers, and ensure that everyone can feel free to participate without worrying about being insulted or attacked.

No wonder all my old BSN friends no longer post or lurk here, they either moved or stay in hermetic group topics (closed- invites only).
General topics are treated like posters own backyard where they can do what the hell they please with no regard to rules, civility or other posters convictions & feelings.
The problem was brewing for some time now and I guess whether things change to worse in therms of draconian rules execution 'we' got ourselves to blame.
EDIT: I must admit I'm around since even BSN existed and I see a trumendous disproportion of wht the forums were and what they are now.
I blame it on the juvenile that are allowed here htey maybe passed 18yo mark but act like 15 yo brats that know the price of everything but the value of nothing...

There's also a bit of a grey area when it comes to comments to your friends. There are people on here that I KNOW that I could joke around with in threads and who wouldn't take offence, yet I am rarely outwardly rude to complete strangers - even when they are rude to me. That said, I can take a few silly/irrational/troll comments directed at me in relatively good spirits. It's a shame others can't.
If we can't joke with our friends on here then this site soon loses any element of "fun"

I have seen that way too many times, some members post legitimate concerns and that thread becomes trashed by images such as 'oh this thread again' or 'cool story bro' and get called idiots for making such post.
Some members who i won't mention their names have gotten away with it for some time and i sometimes question you mods and devs if favortism is at play.

While I agree with the general concept behind these rule changes, the wording used to express them is very very poor in my humble opinion.
The part where it says -and actually stresses that out even more- that I am "priviledged" to be a member of this community, sounds a bit.... eh... cocky and arrogant. It makes it sound as if BSN is the holy grail of gaming communities and to call your customers, who actually pay for this whole BSN by buying your games, "privileged" doesnt sound so cool.
I can 100% understand and agree with the fact that there needs to be a line and everyone should behave as mature individuals, but come on... why are we privileged to be here and not you having us here creating such a big fanbase? Without us, there wouldnt be a BSN, so please dont make it sound like we are lucky to even be here...
Just my 2 cents.
No, it doesn't sound arrogant at all - it's a factual statement with no implication whatsoever that BW is God's gift to gaming. When they say we're privileged, all it means is that we forum users have been granted special permission to post on the forums by the company. It's not a right that we're entitled to by default just because we bought their games. We're expected to conduct ourselves in accordance with the site rules, or that privilege (aka special permission) can/will be taken away (and rightfully so in most cases I imagine).
People really need to stop fixating on individual words that get used in a BW dev post or official statement or the site rules announcement, etc. and analyzing them for some hidden meaning/implications. It's getting a little ridiculous - just like that thread where someone extrapolated that BW was saying that any fan who didn't buy the CE wasn't a true fan. Talk about an eyeroll-inducing thread.

So, that time when another member told me to go f**k myself would be an example of when they would be banned, right? Because I got a 24 hour ban for purely posting one comment (non offensive) in a troll thread that everyone was spamming.

Then you were rightly banned, i have not seen this thread but i presume your post did not help the thread, just because it's a troll thread and everyone was spamming does not mean you can get away with it as well.

This is good to know. Up until now I've always thought that we would be bothering the moderators if we PMed them with a link to something that we've already reported using the button.

I think I may have simply commented on how it was going to get locked. It wasn't a big deal. So no, I don't think it was deserved at all.

A 24 hour ban for that? Then no, you did not deserve that ban but a friendly warning about it would of been sufficient.
Like i said before, i believe some bans handed out on this site is unnecessary and harsh where a warning would of been better.

I think we should get mods that follow the Australian and/or European timezone, for obvious reasons. If we're going to keep trolls and/or spammers at a minimum, might as well cover all timezones so they don't take advantage of any mods' absence.
