Well IMO one reason why I think the reapers don't win in any ending is because it would kill the ME series....The tiliogy is about Commander Shepard and his Exploits...after this is done bioware can focus on a new setting for ME, and have the actions of Shepard Import to effect the new game (hopefully its not the last one) History....and if the leaks are true and the perfect ending ends with the normandy stranded on a planet it would be fun to find it with the new character.

2 endings doesn't confirm anything.

Again, what would be the point of telling us to maximize our GAW and GR ratings if the endings were virtually identical.

To get us to buy the iOS game and the Co-op DLC.

But it iOS game only raises the readiness, just like the MP does.  They all serve the same function.

They've pretty much done that already without either a new discovery of dark energy juju or some other form of super travel. A cool as some might think it would be, I don't bet ME4: Dragon Age All Human Planet Edition will sell terribly many copies.

The only other alternative is to super timeskip.

I guess what I'd really like to hear from these people freaking out over this is:  what were you expecting?  Seriously; no snark or sarcasm intended.  What were these people expecting for an ending?  And I don't mean general stuff like, "for our choices to matter".  They already matter; very much so in fact, but some choices may affect the game in more subtle ways than other choices, and I suspect a lot of the butthurt going on is over not seeing more specific resolutions to certain plotpoints.

I'd really like to know what specific things people were hoping to get closure/resolution on, or what kinds of endings (in a more general sense) they were hoping for.

I can only speak for myself.

I kind of assumed the perfect ending would be:

- Millions... possibly billions dead
- Earth damaged, but not ruined
- Intergalactic travel still a possibility
- Maybe a few alien races wiped out, or nearly wiped out
- Shep and most of the Normandy crew surviving, including Shep's LI, with everyone helping to rebuild
- Some dialogue between Shep and his squadmates

That's what I was expecting.   A bittersweet ending, basically.

Not even the best ending is that good.
WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS INCOMING!!!

- At least 1 race wiped out fully (Asari or Turians. Maybe Geth or Quarians depending on player choice and ME2 choices.)
- Shep's crew is stranded on an uncolonized alien world. That includes Tali and Garrus, who most likely cannot survive in such environments.
- No dialogue between you and squadmates. No dialog at all, actually. Only between you and the Citadel.
- All Mass Relays destroyed.

This is applicable to all 3 endings. That includes all the variants to these 3 endings. The rest is as you say; Earth damaged, to badly damaged to completely ruined, and millions or possibly billions dead, all depending on the amount of War Assets you gather.

The Normandy thing happens no matter what ending you pick.

As I said in the spoilers group, he's merely hyperbolizing the ending "variations".

Or he's not.  Again, it makes no sense for all the endings to just be minor variations on one another.  That goes against Bioware's entire track record for all the games they've made.

I really want to retain some inkling of optimism--I really do--but everything I've seen so far hasn't done much to facilitate that. It's just bleak, bleaker, bleakest. Suppose I'll find out the 6th.

I'm beginning to wonder if pre-natal bleach consumption had anything to do with Bioware's endings and Mike's lack of perceptive skills.

Yeah, this basically sums up what I wanted for a "perfect" ending. No sunshine and bunnies, but no complete and total destruction of the in-game universe we've come to love, and no Shep seperated forever from their crew and friends (LI or no LI).

Um, ME1 and 2 both have 1 ending with minor variations.

as did Baldurs Gate and Neverwinter Nights.

All the games isn't a stretch, it's just incorrect.

You're right. It does make no sense. It's also the way it is. This is all confirmed information both by guys who played through the space edition, have the guide, and extracted the game files themselves.

Yeeep. :[ No variations. Just different levels of destruction and Shepard survival. Everything else is pretty much unavoidable.

Which makes gathering war assets ultimately kind of pointless.

ME1 and ME2 and Baldur's Gate weren't concluding a character's arc.  The conclusion to the Baldur's Gate series left you with an extremely significant choice at the end: become a god or stay a mortal with your love interest.

NWN barely had a story, so it doesn't really count.

If these truly are the only endings available, this is the last Bioware game I'll ever play. It shows a truly remarkable level of disrespect for their fans, especially hot on the heels of the abomination that was DA2. Completely ignoring your LI in the flashbacks is just completely and totally unacceptable. Having the endings be only extremely minor variations of each other after stringing us along for so many years with all the consequential choices we can make, then make it all for nothing...

DA2 put Bioware on notice. If these spoilers are true, then Bioware is dead to me.

I could not quite put my finger on... But if I am not mistaken - I recalled that someone - A representative from Mass Effect team or Bioware or EA confirmed that there is NO BEST ENDING... Unless someone can correct me for my mistake on that part. But if I am right, then oh well...

NO BEST ENDING... Which I hope is not true that in case because I'd love to see ONE BEST ENDING. ONLY IF THERE IS ONE... :-D

I wonder how moronic people will feel if the leaked endings are not the only endings.

Nowhere near as depressed as people will feel if this turns out to be true and they'd deluded themselves into thinking it isn't.

I want to believe, but I'm assuming that it's all true just in case. Worst case scenario is that I'm right.
