He's lvl 10 currently and I'm in Denerhim.

He dies in 3 hits, does crap damage. Gets raped (no pun intended) if he's surrounded.

The only reason to have him is he's funny. No, I'm not gay, so that one point out.

Could someone give me pointers to what armor I should use and what weapons to use? He's got strangth, so I guess I can use chainmail on him I guess. He's using a sword and a dagger.

Should I just respec him with the respec mod?

You gotta get behind the enemy to do some damage.  Pun intended. ;)

He's mostly devoted to stealth and standard-rogue talents, right?  Backstab.  That's all I can think of... I don't use him.

Raise his cunning & dexterity. He's awesome in my game. Max out his assassin and duel wield skills. Get the best armor you can afford for him (and everyone in your party).

This is a problem for all melee non-tanks.  They go down really fast and do terrible damage for the early part of the game.  You really have to work on them and be patient.  Your mage and your healing poultice supply will be challenged for awhile.

He is the worst rouge in the game, he is ment to backstab and sneak, but persoanly use Leliana because she is a fantastic archer and deals alot of damage.

Rogues require a bit more management than Warriors, but do they ever deliver. Lethality, Coup de Grace and Momentum = Everything dies. Especially if your Rogues also have Whirlwind. Other than Bosses or Mages at the other end of a large room, Rogues should not face many problems they can't kill faster than they take damage. You'll still want to pause and pot if your health drops noticeably, of course.

basically, keep the poor bastard in leather armor(if you prefer medium that's up to you, gets more outright threat) and if you don't pick up combat stealth for him, use your tank to the best of their abilities and use tactics to have your party focus on what the tank is beating on, just make sure poor Zev isn't the first thing they see. He's a wimp til you use the respec mod, assuming you have a PC.

Why would medium armor cause more threat?

because someone had looked it up and light armor = +5 base threat while any others = +10....why that is I do not know.

With the AI in the game, most enemies focus on higher armored characters first, dropping them as quickly as they can. (Which is why Alistair is usually getting ganged up on long before he ever uses Taunt.)

Play with his tactics and micromanage him more. He's a beast when you use poisons and get behind the enemies.

I poured a lot of his level up points into DEX. Pretty soon he had a real high defense and was lasting longer in a crowd than my warriors because he wasn't getting hit. His starting weapons are so-so though. Get him enough strength for a decent longsword (magical with runes natch).

I've said it before and I'll say it again

Every rogue attack that's not a backstab is a wasted attack.

zevran does it from behind.

also, he's got combat stealth. there's no excuse for him ever getting beat up. he just turns invisible like a bi-curious elvish ninja assassin.

Dirty fighting + coup de grace = awesome facestab :P
I don't bother to get behind anymore since this combo should drop any white mob or bring a yellow mob close to dead already.

Well, the game counts that as a backstab.

The other thing is don't be trying to load him up with dual weapon mastery and two axes or longswords or whatever. he's best off with dual daggers with a full +50% critical/backstab gear bonus. Dex to 30 for whirlwind and by the time you get him he probably has way too much Str so just pump Cun. The really cool thing is with momentum and dual daggers he's able to get so many attacks in that buffs like flaming weapons from a party mage feel like cheating.

Posting in yet another "character X sucks" thread.

The advantage that a PC of class X has over a companion NPC of class X is marginal. If you fail to make your companion rogue as good as a PC rogue, it's your fault.

I also killed Zevran when he was unconscious. Choice and consequences should not only apply to me.

Maybe it was just how I used him but he turned on me in Denerim when the Crows attempted another assassination of me. So,when I played the game the second time around, I took him in, stripped him down to his underwear and left him alone (Keep your friends close...Keep your enemies Closer!! ...this time, when he turned on me, he was without any level ups, no equipment other than a wimpy sword and he died like a wimpy traitor should. Anyone else experience his "betrayal"??

He only turns on you if you neglect him. If he likes you he'll side with you against the Crows in the encounter.

Rogues are awful until the later part of the game, and then they start doing mega damage. With Zev at level 10, there's nothing you can do to help him.

He'll become useful around level 12 or so.

Also consider using poison. It really makes a difference.

the main issue with rogues is that proper use does require some micromanagement. Whatever else the AI is good at, it's not good at positioning. If you're playing the tank, however, you can position the mobs for your rogues.
