I've tried looking at the wiki and other posts but all that complex registry stuff and all that is beyond me.  I could use a simpler way to fix this without gutting my files and crap with things that are above me.

You need to follow the links in the Troubleshooting section of the toolset Wiki. It involves going to a Microsoft page, downloading a utility there, removing the MSXML resources with that utility, and reinstalling the toolset.

You need to open the SQL Server 2005 Surface Area and add yourself as a administrator. then you need to copy the thing from this link : http://pastebin.com/f233bbc7c
And then paste it in the Cmd.

Well after completely uninstalling the toolset, MSQL and deleting it off the registry I got somewhere. Well Instead of the Unable to connect to databse, now I get a:

Location of game guild either not specified or teh update program was never run to copy the build onto your computer.

I found the fix for the "Can't connect to Database" issue.

1. Uninstall SQL server and the Toolset from PC.

2. Delete C:\\\\Program Files\\\\Microsoft SQL Server

3. Delete in regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\System\\\\CurrentControlSet\\\\Services\\\\MSSQLServer

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\\\Software\\\\Microsoft\\\\Microsoft SQL Server

4. Reboot

5. Install Toolset with the SQL.

And the toolset works. No other issues. sorry for my bad English, but I wanted to help.

If you are running vista press your start button and in the text box that says "start search" type "cmd" and press enter. This will bring up a window with a command prompt. Then copy the text including the quotation marks, right click and select paste (keyboard shortcuts do not work on the command prompt).

If you are running XP press start and go to run, then type "cmd"

I have no idea how it works in Windows 7.

Just FYI, this fix did not work for me. Nor did several others from the wiki, so I uninstall and am now trying to reinstall. I've already run into a couple errors. So strange, it was working fine, then I go away for a few days, my computer was turned off the whole time, I come back, install Torchlight off steam and them bam, cannot connect to database.

Edit: So I got my tool set up and running agian. Here's what I did:
From the control pannel I went into "Programs and Features" I uninstalled the toolset and deleted the database files with it.  Then I also uninstalled Microsoft SQL Server Native Client, Setup Support Files, and VSS Writer. Then I rebooted. I reinstalled the toolset making sure to right click and run as administrator.

Again I stress that when I first installed the toolset it worked fine but after leaving my computer off for about 4 days and installing Torchlight from Steam it stopped working and I got this error. Most people seem to have this problem during installing, not 2 weeks after instalation. At any rate, it might be worth trying.

Had the same problem. Im running windows 7.

Tryed to reinstall and reboot, but it never helped, but after i found out that if you are running a default win 7 user, without creating new one as admin it do not give applications admin permissions as it was in vista as well, so DB never created.

Installed graphic tool for sql and restore as it is in wiki helped.

addon creating here i come :P
